Chapter 141: Master Just Needs a Little Coaxing
Bai Shu was all the more determined to teach them a lesson. Xin’er absolutely could not be bullied or made to suffer any grievances at the General’s Residence.
Yet he had never expected that, the moment Xin’er woke from her drunken sleep, she would run off.
He had only just returned, and his disciple had already disappeared.
It truly made Bai Shu feel as though the child he had raised had suddenly decided she no longer wanted him.
Ji Tianxin gave her wide sleeve a slight sweep, and in an instant the table was covered with spirit herbs and medicinal plants that shimmered with a milky-white radiance.
Bai Shu was stunned. “Where did you get all these?”
Ji Tianxin pressed her lips together. “I went out to look for them earlier. They can be used to refine Calm-the-Mind Pills and Bone-Tempering Pills.” She paused, then glanced at Shiyue, who had already leaped from her shoulder to the floor and found a patch of sunlight in which to lazily bask. “They can also be used to refine Hunger-Sating Pills.”
Ever since Shiyue learned that Bai Shu had no intention of harming Ji Tianxin, it had harbored far less hostility toward him.
Bai Shu knew that his disciple could refine pills, and that many of the pills she made were things he had never even heard of.
In the past, whenever she needed a particular ingredient, he would go searching for it.
But in truth, the ingredients she required were so difficult to find throughout the entire Tianwu Continent that he had eventually taken to gathering everything he could find and letting her choose from the collection.
Xin’er had said that the spiritual energy here was too thin, making it impossible to find the ingredients she truly needed, though substitutes could be used. Refining some lower-grade pills was still possible.
Although Bai Shu’s cultivation was profound, he knew nothing about alchemy.
In the Tianwu Continent, pills were exceedingly rare for martial practitioners, and alchemists were an even rarer profession.
Most pills were of little use to someone of Bai Shu’s cultivation. At his level, they were practically worthless.
Yet many of the pills refined by Ji Tianxin, while unable to directly increase his cultivation, had brought about obvious changes in both his constitution and his strength. His body had become purer, his cultivation more refined, and his entire being seemed far more clear and unclouded.
Compared with before, he could clearly feel that breaking through to the next realm had become much easier.
Even Suqing, an ordinary girl of mediocre aptitude, had reached the grand completion of Marrow Cleansing in just a few short years under the nourishment of Ji Tianxin’s pills.
If the various powers of the Tianwu Continent learned of this girl’s talent for alchemy, they would likely fight desperately to claim her.
“What is a Hunger-Sating Pill? How come I’ve never heard you mention it before?” Bai Shu asked whenever there was something he did not understand.
The intention he had just moments ago of pretending to be angry had already been cast completely aside.
“Once you eat one, it keeps your stomach full for a period of time,” Ji Tianxin explained.
“I’ve heard of Fasting Pills. Are they the same thing?” Bai Shu had indeed heard of Fasting Pills.
People like them, who sometimes needed to enter secluded cultivation, generally kept a supply of Fasting Pills on hand to consume during their retreats.
The first purpose was to ward off hunger. The second was to reduce the impurities left in the body by ordinary grains, making cultivation easier.
Ji Tianxin pondered for a moment before answering, “More or less. But unlike tasteless Fasting Pills, these have a better flavor. They can temporarily satisfy one’s appetite and create a feeling of fullness.”
She had developed them herself in the past. She was rather particular about food, and whenever she occasionally entered seclusion, she had no way to eat anything. So she had researched a type of pill that could temporarily satisfy her craving for food.
They could be considered an improved version of Fasting Pills.
At this, Bai Shu’s eyes lit up. “Then, once Xin’er has refined them, would you be willing to give your master a small bottle?”
Ji Tianxin smiled. “All right.”
Yes, pills had another advantage: whenever her master was unhappy, she only needed to coax him with a few pills.
