Chapter 104: The Fall of the Mo Family
Three hours later, Lin Yi followed Mo Cangqin to the Mo family residence.
The Mo family was not located within the Mountain Province itself but rather in a third-tier city near the province.
Many have always believed that great powers must reside in large cities.
Yet, unbeknownst to most, many transcendent forces tend to remain hidden in small towns or suburban areas.
Though not in the big city, they quietly manipulate everything behind the scenes.
At the Mo family gate stood two martial artists, each possessing strength at the verge of Grandmaster.
In most places, a martial artist on the brink of Grandmaster would be enough to serve as the family's highest martial force.
Only a transcendent power like the Mo family could afford to station such formidable guards so generously.
"Young master," one of the half-step Grandmasters greeted respectfully.
"Move aside. This is Mr. Lin; make way at once," Mo Cangqin said impatiently, waving his hand. Then, in a rustic tone, he addressed Lin Yi, "Mr. Lin, please come in."
Mr. Lin?
The two half-step Grandmasters exchanged glances. Besides the Grand Elder, they had never seen Mo Cangqin address anyone so courteously.
Could it be that this young man before them had some terrifying background?
Quickly, they stepped aside, allowing Lin Yi and Mo Cangqin to enter.
Lin Yi’s purpose in coming to the Mo family was twofold: first, to seize the family’s treasury, and second, to eliminate the Mo family’s direct descendants.
But he had his limits—he would not kill the old, weak, or children unless they dared retaliate, in which case, he would show no mercy.
Soon, Lin Yi followed Mo Cangqin to the Mo family treasury.
Mo Cangqin said, "Mr. Lin, this is the Mo family treasury. Take whatever you like."
Though he spoke these words, his heart was bleeding.
The treasury held treasures accumulated over a hundred years—many precious items.
Lin Yi cast a quick glance. The treasury was quite large, at least the size of a football field.
Inside were countless rare ores, spirit stones, magical artifacts, spiritual medicines, and elixirs. As for gold, silver, and other mundane valuables, they were not even allowed into the Mo family treasury.
Lin Yi nodded with satisfaction. The Mo family was indeed wealthy—there were over a hundred thousand low-grade spirit stones and nearly fifty pounds of mid-grade spirit stones.
The only regret was the absence of high-grade spirit stones.
With a large sweep of his hand, Lin Yi caused everything in the treasury to be vaporized and stored within him.
Mo Cangqin’s eyes narrowed in surprise. He hadn’t expected Lin Yi to possess such a vast storage artifact, emptying the entire treasury in an instant.
Lowering his head and casting his gaze downward, Mo Cangqin inwardly wished he could kill Lin Yi outright.
As long as Lin Yi lived, he would forever dwell in his shadow.
Lin Yi glanced briefly at Mo Cangqin. Though the murderous intent he had just released was faint, Lin Yi still detected it.
“Mr. Lin, do you have any other instructions?” Mo Cangqin asked nervously under Lin Yi’s penetrating gaze.
Lin Yi said coldly, “Go and kill all of the Mo family's direct descendants. I can spare your life.”
Mo Cangqin trembled slightly. He had long known that Lin Yi would not let the Mo family off easily.
But he never imagined he would be ordered to personally slaughter his own kin.
A chill rose in Mo Cangqin’s heart, but he quickly dismissed it. As long as he lived, there was hope.
“Very well, Mr. Lin. Give me half an hour,” Mo Cangqin said through gritted teeth.
“No problem.”
Lin Yi nodded and flicked his finger. A black rune landed on Mo Cangqin’s chest.
Mo Cangqin immediately felt a force pressing down on his heart, filling him with shock and anger.
“This is the Heart Devouring Curse. If you try to escape, thousands of ants will devour your heart instantly,” Lin Yi said calmly.
Mo Cangqin’s expression darkened. He hadn’t expected such a young man to be so powerful—and to master curse arts as well.
“Mr. Lin, you must be joking. How could I possibly run away?” Mo Cangqin said, unwilling to accept his fate.
“I hope so. Go now.”
Lin Yi waved his hand.
After Mo Cangqin left, Lin Yi sat cross-legged and took out a black stone—the Yin Soul Stone.
Previously, lacking sufficient refining materials, he had not forged this stone.
Now that he had enough materials, he intended to refine it thoroughly.
Lin Yi touched the Yin Soul Stone, and a pitch-black flame appeared in his palm.
Unlike before, this flame was cold rather than hot. Frost formed on the ground within three meters around him.
Lin Yi’s artifact fires and elixir fires could change temperature at will.
The Yin Soul Stone required tempering with cold fire; if the flame exceeded one hundred degrees, the stone would be ruined.
Ten minutes later, the Yin Soul Stone had shrunk by half in Lin Yi’s hand, its color deepened to a pure black that seemed to swallow light itself.
He then combined various refining materials with the Yin Soul Stone.
Using his divine will, he forged it in the void. After another ten minutes, the stone gradually took the shape of a teardrop pendant.
“Solidify!”
Golden light flashed in Lin Yi’s eyes as he embedded runes into the ring.
Thus, the artifact made primarily from Yin Soul Stone was completed.
Lin Yi’s divine will moved, and the pendant fell into his hand.
“Not bad. Although it’s only a top-grade artifact, its practical value surpasses that of spirit artifacts,” Lin Yi nodded slightly, then put away the pendant and took out his phone to play for a moment.
Before long, Mo Cangqin strode in, his body reeking of blood, the stench detectable even from several meters away.
“Mr. Lin, it’s done—all killed,” Mo Cangqin said hoarsely.
“Good,” Lin Yi nodded.
“Then may I leave now?” Mo Cangqin asked.
“Yes.” Lin Yi nodded again and touched the black rune on Mo Cangqin’s chest, withdrawing the curse.
Mo Cangqin immediately felt the shackles on his body loosen and showed a faint smile.
He cupped his hands, “Mr. Lin, until we meet again.”
Without looking back, Mo Cangqin fled outside.
A playful smile appeared on Lin Yi’s face. He patted the spirit beast pouch, and a black shadow shot out like lightning, swiftly pouncing on Mo Cangqin.
Hearing the sound, Mo Cangqin turned around in panic, utterly terrified.
A gigantic black python, mouth wide open and bloodthirsty, lunged at him.
How could this be?
Wasn’t this serpent severely wounded by the Grand Elder? How was it alive and thrashing about?
Moreover, at over twenty meters long, it was even more terrifying than before.
Hissing sharply, the small black snake flicked its tongue and reached Mo Cangqin’s side in less than a second.
Mo Cangqin shouted anxiously, “Mr. Lin, you promised to spare me. You’re breaking your word!”
Lin Yi said expressionlessly, “I only said I would consider it.”
With that, the little black snake swallowed Mo Cangqin whole, then crawled back beside Lin Yi, rubbing its big head against him.
“Not bad. Your strength has advanced another level,” Lin Yi said, nodding.
By some stroke of fortune, after digesting the Grandmasters it had eaten before, the little black snake’s power was now just shy of Spirit Sovereign.
It only needed a catalyst to break through easily; everything was falling into place.
Lin Yi patted the snake’s big head and tossed it back into the spirit beast pouch.
At this growth rate, the fifty-cubic-meter spirit beast pouch might not last much longer.
“Looks like I’ll need to craft a larger spirit beast pouch,” Lin Yi thought.
This was before the little black snake transformed into a flood dragon; if it did, its size would increase two or threefold.
...
In the Butterfly Valley.
Die Nizhang knelt on the ground behind a curtain of pearls, where a graceful figure stood.
That figure was Die Hongluan, Die Nizhang’s master.
“Master, shouldn’t we rescue Lin Yi? He might hold the method to refine top-grade elixirs,” Die Nizhang said.
“It’s too late. All six elders of the Mo family have mobilized. The latest news says the Grand Elder has broken through to Spirit Sovereign. Even with our entire Butterfly Valley, it’s difficult to contend with a Spirit Sovereign,” Die Hongluan said, her voice as melodious as flowing spring water.
Die Nizhang was surprised. “Impossible. The Mo family’s Grand Elder is so old and deficient in vital energy. How could he break through to Spirit Sovereign?”
“Nothing is impossible. Enough of this. If Lin Yi can survive this crisis, we will treat him as an honored guest,” Die Hongluan said coldly.
Die Nizhang was shocked. The breakthrough of the Mo family’s Grand Elder to Spirit Sovereign would undoubtedly shake all transcendent forces in the Mountain Province.
Grandmasters were already extraordinary talents, requiring heavy weaponry to kill. Spirit Sovereigns could harness the power of heaven and earth, walk on air, and were rightly called terrestrial immortals.
Though only one realm difference separated Grandmasters and Spirit Sovereigns, the power gap was immense. Even a hundred Grandmasters could not match a single Spirit Sovereign.
“Master! Master! News has arrived!” A petite female disciple rushed in.
“Calm yourself. What a lack of decorum,” Die Hongluan scolded.
The disciple lowered her head, feeling aggrieved.
Die Nizhang asked, “Xiao Yan, what news?”
Xiao Yan said, “Senior sister, Lin Yi not only has a man-eating ferocious python but also killed the Mo family’s Grand Elder.”
“What!” Die Nizhang was shocked and hastily confirmed, “Are you sure?”
“Absolutely. Lin Yi killed the Mo family’s Grand Elder in just a few punches. The body is still hanging on the Jia family’s rockery,” Xiao Yan nodded firmly.
Die Hongluan was silent for a moment before saying, “This Lin Yi is something special. Nizhang, you must recruit him into Butterfly Valley.”
Die Nizhang smiled bitterly. “Master, I have met Lin Yi several times. Though seemingly easygoing, he is very proud.”
Die Hongluan said, “It doesn’t matter. Tell him Butterfly Valley is willing to offer him a training spot.”
“Master, you’re not joking?” Die Nizhang asked in surprise.
Training spots were a way for the martial arts associations of the capital and Demon City to cultivate talent, held every five years.
They were free, and all resources were available to those qualified.
Usually, only transcendent powers had training spots. Butterfly Valley, as a transcendent force in the Mountain Province, had three such spots.
Many factions fought fiercely over a single spot, yet now her master wanted to offer one away.
Training could elevate even the weakest to Grandmaster, with some geniuses breaking through to half-step Spirit Sovereign.
Die Nizhang herself had once trained at the martial arts association, which had enabled her to break through to Grandmaster.
“Lin Yi is so young yet capable of killing a Spirit Sovereign. His future is limitless. This is our chance,” Die Hongluan said.
“Yes, I will go immediately,” Die Nizhang nodded.
