Chapter 41: Does He Think He Looks Handsome?
If Qin Changsheng were to tell the two of them that he already possessed the power of longevity, they probably wouldn't believe it, so it was better to leave such matters unsaid.
When they would eventually encounter him again through endless reincarnations, everything would become clear, and their astonished expressions at that time would surely be a sight to behold.
Qin Changsheng's silence was interpreted by the two as a tacit admission.
"If there are flowers to be plucked, pluck them at once; do not wait for branchless twigs and empty branches. Brother Changsheng should still make his choice sooner rather than later," the Daoist-robed youth laughed heartily. When it came to living a long life, he finally managed to salvage some sense of superiority in front of Qin Changsheng.
Having had his bones broken by Qin Changsheng twice, the Daoist-robed youth harbored a deep and lingering resentment in his heart. He was certain that he was being countered by Qin Changsheng, which meant he could only achieve true invincibility after Qin Changsheng died of old age.
This was the most helpless of predicaments. From the very first moment he laid eyes on Qin Changsheng, he felt that there was a terrifying treasure on Qin Changsheng's person that deeply fascinated him yet completely countered him.
At that time, his first impulse had been to kill Qin Changsheng, but after trying and failing, he had instead been beaten half to death. It was also on that occasion that he witnessed Qin Changsheng's freakish strength—Qin Changsheng had actually cultivated immortal Qi at such a tender age.
The second time was today, which once again proved Qin Changsheng's formidable might and confirmed the Daoist-robed youth's suspicion that the power Qin Changsheng wielded was indeed immortal Qi.
Today's battle had made it clear to him that for a long time to come, he would be suppressed and beaten by Qin Changsheng. Therefore, his immediate reaction upon being sent flying by a sword strike was to flee.
Now, having finally regained some face regarding longevity, the Daoist-robed youth was quite pleased.
"Who knows, when you two finally die of old age, I might even be able to erect a stele for you," Qin Changsheng laughed heartily. "You also know that my name itself is quite auspicious. If I truly live as long as my name implies, then who will ultimately outlast whom is anyone's guess."
At these words, both the Daoist-robed youth and the young monk burst into laughter.
"Even if there aren't ten thousand people in the entire world named Changsheng, there must be at least nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine. It's not like they can actually achieve longevity."
"Exactly, Brother Changsheng shouldn't be so overly confident in himself."
Having finished their roasted chicken, the three of them had nothing better to do and began to debate once more.
First off, when it came to the matter of longevity, everyone wanted to prove that they were the strongest and that their respective Dao was the best.
Both the Daoist-robed youth and the young monk wanted to sway each other to their side, so they argued with extraordinary zeal. As for Qin Changsheng, he didn't care much about such things to begin with, so he simply sat off to the side, produced a small flask of wine, and began to sip.
To Qin Changsheng, the monk and the Daoist-robed youth before him posed no significant threat. When these two fellows grew old, he would still be a youth—a youth growing ever more powerful with time.
By the time the day came, he could simply crawl out of his coffin lid and deal with both of them. Even if he couldn't handle them at that moment, he could always slip back into a deep slumber and continue to cultivate.
As long as he slept long enough, he could easily outlast them both by sheer attrition.
Therefore, in his eyes, whether it was the Buddhist Dao, the Daoist Dao, or the Ghost Dao, they were all paths of the short-lived.
Only longevity was eternal.
Several hours had passed, and Qin Changsheng had already finished several large jugs of wine, while the Daoist-robed youth and the young monk were still bickering endlessly, one spouting skewed logic while the other recited Buddhist scriptures.
"The joys and sorrows of men do not resonate with one another; I merely find them noisy. The ancients truly never deceived me."
Qin Changsheng shook his head and slowly stood up. The two arguing figures both turned to look at him simultaneously, casting puzzled glances in his direction.
"Won't Brother Changsheng sit down and chat with us?"
"Indeed, whether one becomes a Buddha or a demon, both are supreme DAOs. Brother Changsheng is entirely free to make a choice."
Seeing how confident the two of them looked, Qin Changsheng sighed speechlessly. "I don't have much time left; I must be going. You two can carry on with your debate."
"When we meet in the future, I hope you won't let me down."
At these words, both of them froze. Only then did they notice that a faint aura of decay had unexpectedly emerged around Qin Changsheng.
"Are you about to die?" The Daoist-robed youth's eyes lit up.
The young monk also stood up. "It does indeed look like your lifespan is running out. Why not study Buddhist teachings with me, and I can help you enter the cycle of reincarnation?"
Both of them could see that Qin Changsheng's lifespan was nearly exhausted. The Daoist-robed youth was exceedingly happy, believing that for a long time to come, he would no longer have this nemesis suppressing him. He only needed to deal with the young monk to do as he pleased and walk the path of the invincible Dao.
The young monk, however, felt somewhat disappointed. After all, it was difficult for the young monk to do anything to the Daoist-robed youth, but Qin Changsheng was different—Qin Changsheng could easily beat the Daoist-robed youth and send him packing. If Qin Changsheng were gone, it would truly be hard for him to convert the Daoist-robed youth to Buddhism, and there was even a chance he might be swayed by the Daoist-robed youth instead.
Therefore, the young monk earnestly hoped that Qin Changsheng would make a move, beat the Daoist-robed youth half to death, and then hand him over so he could convert the youth to Buddhism.
That was the best possible outcome he could imagine.
Yet, after merely sharing a meal of chicken and chatting for a few hours, Qin Changsheng was actually leaving?
"Put away those little schemes of yours. I wouldn't die even if you died eight hundred times over. I won't waste any more breath today—just wait for my return."
Qin Changsheng rolled his eyes, and with a wave of his hand, a Taiji Yin-Yang diagram manifested once again. The only difference was that this time, instead of launching it at the Daoist-robed youth, he quite ostentatiously placed the Taiji Yin-Yang diagram right beneath his own feet.
And then, he directly detonated it.
With a thunderous crash, the terrifying explosion impacted squarely against him.
Qin Changsheng's body was instantly launched skyward. Once in the air, he consecutively deployed several more Taiji Yin-Yang diagrams, and amidst a series of deafening bangs, Qin Changsheng was actually propelled straight into the sky by the sheer force of the explosions.
This spelled misery for the two youths who had hoped to recruit Qin Changsheng to their respective DAOs. Caught off guard, the Daoist-robed youth and the young monk, despite not being the targets of the Taiji Yin-Yang diagram, were still blown away by the terrifying shockwave.
"He could fly the entire time! Did he really have to resort to this?" The young monk brushed the dust off his body with a bewildered expression; Qin Changsheng's terrifying destructive power was something even his indestructible golden body struggled to completely withstand.
"This fellow just wanted to disgust us and show off right before leaving," the Daoist-robed youth said through gritted teeth, glaring viciously at Qin Changsheng, who was continuously being blasted higher into the sky. "Does he think that looks cool?"
"Son of a bitch."
It was the first time either of them had witnessed such a method of flight—relying purely on explosive force for propulsion. What was most outrageous was that this fellow had unleashed such terrifying attacks back-to-back without showing the slightest sign of exhaustion, and yet such a horrifying explosion directed at his own body left him completely unscathed.
What did this indicate?
It indicated that the physical toughness of Qin Changsheng's body surpassed even the young monk's indestructible golden body.
"Sigh, I hope his lifespan really runs out." The Daoist-robed youth sat back down on the ground in resignation.
"For some reason, this humble monk finds himself agreeing with your view." The young monk nodded.
"I thought you'd say Heaven has the virtue of loving life, and that the Buddha favors every living creature. I never expected you to wish for someone's death as well," the Daoist-robed youth said with a mocking laugh. "Little monk, it seems a demon has taken root in your heart."
The young monk pressed his palms together and uttered, "Amitabha."
"Buddha and demon are merely a thought apart. As long as one ultimately becomes a Buddha, who cares what was done in the middle? Even a murderous demon can instantly become a Buddha the moment he lays down his butcher's knife. For us adherents of Buddhism, occasionally raising the butcher's knife isn't a big deal either........"
For an unreasonable monster like Qin Changsheng, dying early was a good thing for everyone.
"I suddenly feel like you might actually be learning how to fight........"
The Daoist-robed youth wore a complex expression.
"Brother Chen An taught me well."
"What a truly aggravating and disgusting monk."
"To each other..."
