Ren Guowei frowned and glanced at her, reminding her coldly, “You really need to get rid of that habit of looking down on people.”

Duan Ruman raised her brows unhappily and stubbornly argued, “What did I do? Was I wrong? She broke the rules as soon as she arrived, and instead of caring about her own life, she got into a fight with that scumbag and his fake-sweet mistress... Isn’t the fact that she’s still alive just a matter of good luck?”

Ren Guowei frowned at her once more, then ignored her.

At that moment, the sharp clack of high heels striking the floor echoed from outside the door, drawing nearer and nearer.

The director of student affairs had arrived.

When she entered and saw how miserable and pitiful the group looked, a stiff smile appeared on her deathly pale face. But when she realized that no one had been eliminated, the smile vanished again, replaced by a trace of regret.

As soon as her gaze fell on Fan Sijin, she broke into a wide grin. “Fan Sijin, have you completed your sales assignment?”

Only then did the others remember that Fan Sijin was different from them. She still had a sales quota to fulfill.

Duan Ruman cast a provocative glance at Fan Sijin, then leaned toward Ren Guowei and whispered, “See? Her luck has finally run out.”

Ren Guowei’s expression did not change, and he said nothing.

Everyone turned to look at Fan Sijin. Among them, only Wei Wei—whose ear had been bitten off—knew the truth...

In the class he was responsible for, Fan Sijin had completed her assignment long ago.

Fan Sijin took the crumpled bills from her pocket and placed them on the table. “No more, no less. Exactly six books. That’s sixty yuan.”

The director of student affairs had already prepared herself to harvest another life. When she suddenly saw the money on the table, her smile froze.

But it was indeed sixty yuan.

In the end, she could only give Fan Sijin a sinister look before saying coldly, “It is now mealtime. All class supervisors are to come with me to the staff cafeteria.”

At those words, everyone’s expressions tightened.

Mealtime?

They certainly did not believe this could be anything good.

Xiao Ruirui, who was missing half the sole of one foot, sobbed softly, “Can... can we choose not to eat?”

A delighted smile immediately spread across the director’s pale face, her lips stretching wide. “Staff meals are not compulsory. You may decide for yourselves.”

Terrified by her eerie smile, Xiao Ruirui shuddered violently. She hurriedly braced herself against the wall and forced herself upright. “I’ll go! I’ll go!”

The director of student affairs once again wore an expression of regret, then turned to lead the way. “All right. Please follow me...”

The cafeteria could be entered through the doorway in the corridor beside Class Five. Yet before beginning her assignment, Fan Sijin had deliberately examined the classroom layout posted on the wall there. There had been no door on that side of the corridor.

It seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.

Fan Sijin followed the others into the cafeteria, deliberately noting the sign standing at the entrance:

Do Not Waste Food.

The cafeteria was enormous. Even if their numbers doubled, they would barely be able to fill a third of the seats.

Once inside, Fan Sijin chose a seat far away from Gao Yi. No one wanted to listen to endless barking.

Bai Li followed behind her. After Fan Sijin chose a seat, he obediently sat down across from her.

The others also took their seats in their own small groups.

Once everyone was seated, they began observing their surroundings without drawing attention to themselves.

Soon, a line of people wearing white chef’s hats appeared at the cafeteria window. Each carried a serving of staff food, which they distributed to the players’ tables.

Fan Sijin had just received her meal from one of the cooks and was examining the food on the tray when a scream suddenly rang out.

She turned to look at the other tables and realized that everyone had been given something different.

She and Bai Li had been served ordinary cafeteria food: rice with three small side dishes. The side dishes were all vegetarian, however, with no meat at all.

The contents of the others’ trays were entirely different...

Duan Ruman stirred the mold-spotted noodles in disgust. “So this is what they meant by paying attention to personal appearance.”

Only then did the others realize that their meals had been assigned according to their current appearance.

Fan Sijin, Bai Li, and Ren Guowei were all wearing neat, clean uniforms, so they had received normal staff meals.

Duan Ruman’s clothes, on the other hand, were slightly stained, so she had been given food covered in mold.

Because Wei Wei’s ear had been bitten off, his clothes were splattered with blood. His tray was filled with rotten, decomposing vegetables.

Li Jun had lost an arm, leaving one sleeve of his uniform missing. His tray contained black insect pupae.

Liu Jun’s face was deathly pale. His one remaining hand trembled around his chopsticks, while his lips quivered uncontrollably.

Although Gao Yi had lost one little finger, his clothes were still relatively clean, with only two drops of blood on them. Like Duan Ruman, he had been given food speckled with mold.

But beside him, Lu Ke—whose clothes showed no visible sign of dirt—had been served rotten, foul-smelling vegetables. They reeked even more horribly than the ones given to Wei Wei.

Unable to understand, Gao Yi frowned at Lu Ke’s tray. He gritted his teeth, then turned back and summoned the courage to ask the director of student affairs, “Director, could there have been a mistake in the food distribution? Lu Ke’s uniform is clearly clean. Why was she given this?”

As soon as Gao Yi finished speaking, Lu Ke’s expression stiffened slightly.

Everyone then saw the director curl her lips into a cold sneer. “There was no mistake in the distribution. You have fifteen minutes to eat.”

Gao Yi froze and did not dare say another word. He could only lower his head and begin eating.

Lu Ke’s fingers trembled faintly. She closed her eyes and forced herself to swallow the rotten, stinking food on her tray, fighting back her nausea.

Only Liu Jun remained frozen before the black insect pupae on his tray, his face drained of color. No matter what, he could not bring himself to touch them.

Fan Sijin and Bai Li sat facing each other. From there, they could see the most miserable couple in the cafeteria, seated two or three places away: Liu Jun and Xiao Ruirui.

After a pause, she still called out a warning. “Force yourself to eat it.”

The sign reading Do Not Waste Food stood at the cafeteria entrance. In this place, which operated according to rules, it could not possibly be mere decoration.

Hearing Fan Sijin, Xiao Ruirui wept as she whispered to Liu Jun, “Close your eyes. Don’t look. Just swallow it in one bite.”

Liu Jun fought down the churning in his stomach. Gritting his teeth and squeezing his eyes shut, he opened his mouth and shoved in an insect pupa.

But the moment it entered his mouth, before he even had time to swallow, he vomited it back up. Then he completely broke down.

He stood and knocked over the tray, sobbing at the top of his lungs. “Ahhh! I want to go home! I want to go home! I don’t want to stay here! I want to go home! Let me go home...”

Beside him, an excited and eerie smile once again appeared on the director of student affairs’ face.
