Chapter 45: Welcome to the Horror World (14)
Gao Yi was frightened to a pale shade of white, and without a moment's hesitation, he tried to bolt for the door. As he ran out, he was suddenly startled to see that Fan Sijin’s eyes were wide open as well!
Countless monsters lunged toward her, but she didn't even spare them a glance. Wielding a rolled-up newspaper in her hand, she swept it through the air and batted away many of the monsters pouncing at her, then kicked one flying with her left foot and punted another away with her right.
Gao Yi was completely dumbfounded.
He had never expected that Fan Sijin, who ordinarily seemed to know only how to put on makeup and buy luxury bags, could possess such incredible martial arts skills...
"Sijin!" Gao Yi instinctively cried out for help, but Fan Sijin turned a deaf ear to his shouts and didn't even look his way. Instead, she bolted out of the classroom and ran ahead toward the direction of Class 11.
Thinking of her shady and ambiguous relationship with that pretty boy from Class 11, Gao Yi gritted his teeth and ran in the opposite direction toward the Class 9 classroom without looking back.
Monsters gnashed their teeth and brandished their claws behind him, closing the distance until they were right at his heels. In a panic, Gao Yi shoved against the door of the Class 9 classroom, but strangely, no matter how hard he pushed, the door wouldn't budge at all!
He had no idea why this was happening. Could it be because he was only assigned to Class 10, rendering him unable to open the doors of other classrooms?
Yet now he was trapped in a dilemma with no way forward or backward!
Gao Yi had no choice but to pound frantically on the door. Seeing no response, he ran forward toward the windows and slammed his hands desperately against the glass!
Through the window, he could see the pairs of gloomy and terrifying eyes belonging to the students inside Class 9, as well as... Lu Ke, who was squatting down in the aisle with her head buried in her arms, eyes tightly shut and body curled into a ball. Her lips kept moving incessantly, as if she couldn't hear the commotion outside at all.
Yet they were clearly not that far apart...
Lu Ke sat motionless with her head in her arms and eyes closed, while Gao Yi outside hammered desperately on the door and window, shouting her name at the top of his lungs.
At that exact moment, a chorus of sharp, eerie screams suddenly erupted behind him.
He subconsciously turned his head, only to see that Fan Sijin was actually wielding an axe!
The phantom image of an axe appeared on the connecting wall window between Class 10 and Class 11. Realizing that both Class 10 and Class 11 only displayed phantoms without physical entities, Fan Sijin sprinted straight into Class 11, jumped onto the podium, and smashed the glass. Sure enough, the moment the glass shattered, the physical entity of the axe materialized, suspended right between the walls of the two classrooms.
The instant she gripped the axe in her hand, Fan Sijin felt a surge of overwhelming power continuously pouring into her body. She spun around and slashed horizontally with a backhand swing; the blade-wind whipped up by the axe swept across the monsters that had lunged behind her to attack, instantly reducing them to ashes amidst miserable shrieks.
She was actually this powerful?!
Right at that moment, Baili, who had been in the middle of the classroom, heard the commotion and chose to open his eyes, running toward Fan Sijin with his eyes full of worry as he looked at her. "Big Sister, are you alright?"
The moment he opened his eyes, the surrounding monsters excitedly and ferociously pounced toward him...
Baili knew full well what opening his eyes would entail, yet upon hearing the commotion and believing she was in danger, he had still chosen to step forward and offer his help.
Fan Sijin yanked him aside, kicked away a monster that was about to pounce onto Baili's back, and then dragged him as she charged out of the classroom. Whenever they were surrounded by a large horde of monsters, she gripped the axe tightly, hacking and slashing in all directions; any monster swept by the axe was instantly turned to ashes.
Many of the monsters witnessing this scene were struck with fear and began to retreat.
And right at that moment, just as Fan Sijin had finished off a few monsters, she was surprised to see a key suspended in mid-air appear where one of the monster's bodies had turned to ashes.
Did a piece of gear just drop?
The system chimed in excitedly, "Host, it's a key! It's the clearance key!"
Fan Sijin reached out and caught it. The moment the key touched her hand, she heard a resounding "rumble," and the entire building began to shake...
The system warned, "Host, the main exit leading downstairs from this floor has appeared!"
The very next instant, a school bell rang throughout the entire campus: "Ding-ding-dong, ding-ding-dong—school is out..."
The system prompted, "Host, the exit is in the hallway next to Class 5."
Fan Sijin grabbed Baili and sprinted forward rapidly. Passing by Gao Yi, who still wanted to ask about the situation, Fan Sijin didn't even spare him a single glance, treating him as if he were thin air.
Gao Yi had no choice but to grab Lu Ke, who had just emerged from the classroom, and run forward in pursuit of Fan Sijin.
When Fan Sijin reached the hallway, the veteran players had already arrived. Sure enough, the black void that the hallway had previously led to had vanished, revealing a locked iron gate.
Ren Guowei looked at the key clutched in Fan Sijin's hand, and understanding dawned upon him.
Just as the group stepped down into the stairwell, all the monsters on that entire floor suddenly went completely berserk!
"Let's go, quickly!"
Fan Sijin tightly grasped Baili's hand and charged toward the iron gate, unlocking it with blinding speed.
Pushing the door open, she found that the outside was actually a desolate, empty street illuminated by stark, pale white streetlights. With no time to ponder where this place was, she could only frantically drag Baili along and run for her life.
Yet at that very moment, a black object shot out from the iron gate behind her and attacked her. A familiar, icy chill once again wrapped around her neck, and the principal's chilling voice echoed in her ear.
"Hand the item over to me."
With her neck bound tight, Fan Sijin could only swing her axe backward in a desperate counterattack against the freezing black object. With a loud "clang," the axe blade struck the scales of the black entity, sending a spray of tiny sparks flying. Yet the thing did not break at all; instead, it began to tighten its grip gradually!
Fan Sijin glanced back with great difficulty to see that Xiao Ruirui, who had been the slowest, had just bolted out of the iron gate, closely pursued by a massive horde of monsters right at her heels.
If she handed the item back now, she would likely forfeit her life right then and there.
Yet if she didn't hand it back, her life would end right here and now!
Meanwhile, the entire Nanning Middle School was already ablaze, with flames soaring into the sky.
Seeing clusters of black fog suddenly emerge from the raging fire and hurtle toward her, Fan Sijin gritted her teeth and violently hurled the axe in her hand back toward the school.
The black entity that had been tightly constricting her neck instantly loosened, whipping rapidly back in the direction of the axe.
The next moment, the entire school erupted with a deafening "boom."
The blazing inferno swept outward in all directions like a fiery dragon. With nowhere to hide, Fan Sijin could only close her eyes, kick off the ground with all her might, and lunge forcefully forward...
Simultaneously, she felt someone crash against her back, throwing themselves over her to shield her from the impact of the rear explosion wave.
Shockwave after shockwave of the explosion rocked the area, and it was only after a dozen or so tremors that the commotion finally subsided. At that moment, Fan Sijin could only hear a persistent ringing in her ears, her mind spinning with dizziness. After a long while, she managed to open her eyes and pushed herself up onto her hands and knees to sit.
Then, she saw Baili lying on the ground beside her amidst a pool of blood. His shoulders and entire upper back were soaked through with crimson, the flesh torn wide open, and his injuries looked unimaginably severe.
"Baili, Baili, wake up..." Fan Sijin patted his face frantically.
