Chapter Forty-Nine: Welcome to the World of Thrills (18)

That settled it—Fan Sijin could no longer stay in the room. She felt as though she needed to cool herself down.
She changed the subject again. “I’m going out to see if I can find any clues. The room is safe for now, so stay here quietly and don’t run around. I’ll be back soon.”
Then she added, “Don’t open the door for anyone, understand?”
Bai Li obediently nodded. “I understand. Be careful, Big Sister.”
Fan Sijin turned away, cursing her poor self-control inwardly as she straightened her housekeeper’s uniform before walking out.
The corridor was still deathly silent. She crossed it without betraying anything, glanced from side to side, then tried knocking on the door beside her.
“Hello, room service!”
A moment later, the door opened, and a fat man snarled viciously, “Who is it? What room service? Do I look like I ordered room service?”
Fan Sijin remained unmoved and put on a professional smile. “Sir, one of the guests has lost a pet. Have you happened to see it when coming in or going out over the past two days?”
She did not know which word had struck a nerve, but the fat man’s expression changed instantly. He stared at her sharply.
“What pet? I have no idea what you’re talking about! Go away! If you keep bothering me, I’ll file a complaint!”
Seeing that he was about to shut the door, Fan Sijin caught the handle and continued smiling. “Sir, I only wanted to ask whether you’ve left the hotel at all in the past two days.”
This time, however, the fat man acted as though he had not heard her. He simply slammed the door shut.
Fan Sijin fell into thought. She guessed that information concerning the hotel’s exit was taboo. It was impossible to ask anyone directly.
It was dark outside now, and there was still an entire day ahead of her. Perhaps she should wait until daylight and take another look.
She had at least gained a little information. Fan Sijin was about to turn back when, in that very instant, she unexpectedly saw another patch of that familiar black void.
A terrifying aura enveloped her once more. Within moments, gooseflesh rose all over her body.
The Principal...
Those familiar, icy scales pressed against her body, then slowly coiled around her waist.
Fan Sijin had no time to react. In an instant, she was completely immobilized.
Then an intensely frigid presence approached from behind.
A dense, prickling pain spread across her neck, accompanied by a tingling numbness. Fan Sijin clenched her teeth—
But soon, the cold presence vanished, along with that strange and shameful sensation.
Immediately afterward, a slightly puzzled voice sounded behind her.
“Hmm? Why didn’t you make a sound this time either? Does it still not hurt?”

An icy breath brushed against the back of her ear. His tone hardened slightly as he said, “I liked the sound you made the first time, when you were afraid of the pain.”
Fan Sijin sensed the threat in his words. She could only suppress her speechlessness and embarrassment. When he struck at her again, she let out a soft hum.
The next instant, she heard his voice grow somewhat hoarse, though it remained filled with bone-deep coldness.
“As I thought, I do like the sound you make when you’re afraid of pain.”
The coils around her body visibly tightened, and the temperature around them slowly dropped. Fan Sijin heard him give a cold laugh.
“Then perhaps it is time for you to explain a few other things.”
Damn it. He was here to settle accounts.
Fan Sijin’s heart sank. Her mind raced. Before he could say anything else, she hurriedly spoke first.
“That wasn’t the sound of me being afraid of pain!”
The man seemed to have been thrown off balance by her words. He gave a puzzled hum.
“What?”
Fan Sijin had already begun an intense mental scramble. With utmost sincerity, she bluffed, “That was actually the sound of me enjoying your voice very much.”
“You... enjoy me?”
The man seemed bewildered. “Or do you mean that you enjoy what I’m doing to you?”
Whether he failed to understand or simply refused to believe her, the man concealed within the black mist revealed himself and slowly circled Fan Sijin once.
The instant Fan Sijin saw him emerge from the darkness, his gaze met her tear-bright eyes.
They were clearly wet with tears, yet they shimmered with a seductive radiance.
The man narrowed his eyes. In the next moment, his cold fingertip brushed the corner of her eye. Leaning closer with his narrow eyes, he asked suspiciously, “Do you really like me?”
“Yes. I like you.”
Fan Sijin gritted her teeth and hardened her resolve. “I’ve liked you since the first time I saw you.”
The Principal paused, then asked in confusion, “But you betrayed me and broke our agreement.”
There it was. It had finally come. The ultimate boss was here to settle the score with her!
If she failed to explain herself, she would certainly die this time.
Fan Sijin threw caution to the wind and gave a soft, bitter laugh. “Because I knew I was the only one in love. You would never belong to me... If I couldn’t have you, I would rather destroy you. Was I wrong...?”
The two of them were very close, allowing her to clearly see the contemplative look that appeared in his dark golden eyes.
At that moment, the coils around her waist slowly loosened.

When the man was completely off guard, Fan Sijin attacked!
She smashed the sharp edge of the pigeon-egg-sized diamond directly into his eye.
His reaction was swift, but the diamond still carved a long bloody gash across his face.
Fan Sijin immediately kicked him in the chest. Then she raised the enormous diamond and slashed viciously at the thing restraining her. The black appendage, which had not fully withdrawn, was cut open as well.
For an instant, she saw what lay beneath the torn black scales: blue flesh and a yellowish, foul-smelling fluid.
It was not overwhelmingly rancid, however—its scent was much like blood.
So this black thing was not some kind of whip or weapon at all.
It was alive?!
The black appendage was wounded, and the dark mist surrounding the Principal suddenly shook and dispersed. The scene before Fan Sijin’s eyes changed once more.
When she saw the deathly silent corridor again, she let out a sigh of relief.
At last, she had returned.
Fan Sijin found the room where Bai Li was staying and pounded on the door.
“It’s me! Open the door!”
The door opened quickly. Bai Li’s eyes were covered with a white cloth, and he slowly reached out, groping toward her.
“Big Sister, are you all right? Did something happen? You sound a little breathless. What happened? Are you hurt?”
Fan Sijin hurriedly shut the door and did her best to steady her disordered breathing. After taking a moment to recover, she shook her head.
“I’m fine. I’m not hurt.”
As though sensing the fear lingering in her heart, Bai Li carefully reached out and embraced her, gently patting her back.
“It’s all right now. It’s all right.”
Bai Li’s obedience and gentleness stood in stark contrast to the Principal’s forceful domination just moments before.
Although Bai Li was not powerful, the instant she was held in his arms and felt his body heat and soft words, Fan Sijin inexplicably relaxed. The tension and fear that had gripped her slowly faded away.
“Go to sleep. We’ll rest for tonight and look for more clues tomorrow.”
Night was clearly not a good time to search, and neither of them had rested for a long while.
