Volume One, Chapter Six: Flying Thunder God vs. Body Flicker
Faced with Fengtian’s sudden appearance, Shisui and Itachi quickly composed themselves, shifting into a state of combat readiness. They knew well that regardless of the purpose behind Fengtian’s visit, they had to remain vigilant to handle any potential contingencies.
Shisui narrowed his eyes slightly, scanning Fengtian from head to toe, attempting to glean information from the man’s expression and demeanor. Meanwhile, Itachi silently activated his Sharingan, prepared to track Fengtian’s movements at a moment’s notice should a fight break out.
"Who are you? What is your business with us?" Shisui asked calmly, his voice carrying an unquestionable air of authority.
Fengtian smiled faintly but did not answer immediately. He seemed to relish the tense, delicate atmosphere, as if waiting for something. Finally, he spoke slowly:
"My name is Uchiha Fengtian... I have come here for the future of the Uchiha clan."
At these words, both Shisui and Itachi could not help but show surprise. They had not expected Fengtian to address the future of the Uchiha clan so directly.
"What do you mean?" Shisui’s eyes narrowed, his hand gripping the hilt of his blade tightly, ready to strike at any second.
"My goal is to create a world without strife, without war, and without bloodshed... Therefore, Uchiha Shisui, Uchiha Itachi... I require your assistance."
Fengtian spoke in a low voice. Though soft, his words reached them clearly. A strange look flashed across Shisui’s face, though it vanished as quickly as it appeared.
"What reason do I have to trust you, and how do you intend to prove yourself?"
As Shisui spoke, the temperature in the clearing seemed to drop to freezing. Fengtian sighed softly, then activated his Mangekyo Sharingan. His intention was clear: if they would not submit, he would have to force them to.
Shisui was incredibly fast. Almost the instant Fengtian activated his Mangekyo, Shisui appeared behind him. Without hesitation, he swung his blade to strike. However, the moment the short sword was about to make contact, Fengtian’s figure simply vanished from the spot.
A moment later, Fengtian slowly emerged from the woods as if nothing had happened.
"A high-level Body Flicker technique?"
"No... it’s space-time ninjutsu!"
Shisui’s reaction and analytical skills were terrifying; in a single exchange, he had deduced the nature of Fengtian’s technique. He was correct—Fengtian had used the Flying Raijin to instantly teleport to a marker he had placed earlier, gracefully evading Shisui’s strike.
"Shall we continue?" Fengtian’s face remained composed, as if everything were merely a matter of course.
Shisui stood up slowly, maintaining his combat stance. His three-tomoe Sharingan was now active, ready to anticipate Fengtian’s next move. Space-time ninjutsu was rare; if he tested it a few more times, he could gather enough information to develop a countermeasure.
With that thought, Shisui struck again. He moved with increasing speed, so fast that even Fengtian, with his Mangekyo Sharingan, could barely track the afterimages.
"Got you!"
A smile flashed across Shisui’s face. He reappeared behind Fengtian, seizing the moment of distraction to deliver a slash. Yet, the result was strikingly similar: just before the blade touched him, Fengtian’s figure vanished, only to walk out from the trees again moments later.
"This disappearance feels more like a transfer... it’s quite similar to the Flying Raijin favored by Minato Namikaze."
Through this probe, Shisui had formed a basic judgment of Fengtian’s technique. To verify his theory, Shisui turned and performed a rapid sequence of hand seals, unleashing a Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique toward Fengtian. A massive sphere of flame, carrying a sense of destruction, swept across everything in its path.
Fengtian felt the wall of heat and dodged. It was not that he didn't want to use the Flying Raijin, but the trajectory of Shisui’s fireball was aimed directly at the grove where he had placed his markers. If he teleported there, he would be caught in the blast, so he had no choice but to dodge.
"Just as I thought..."
Watching Fengtian dodge the fireball, Shisui felt no disappointment. Instead, his mouth curled into a smug, triumphant smile. Everything was going as he expected: Fengtian’s space-time ninjutsu was indeed the Flying Raijin. Now that his fireball had destroyed the marked grove, it meant Fengtian could not use the technique to evade his next attack.
With that, Shisui’s smile deepened. He vanished, reappearing behind Fengtian just as the latter landed from his dodge.
"This time, let's see how you dodge!"
Shisui did not hesitate, swinging his blade toward Fengtian. Yet, facing the strike, Fengtian merely looked back with a meaningful smile.
"Reverse Causality... Flying Raijin: Second Step!"
*Whoosh!*
To Shisui’s astonishment, Fengtian once again evaded the blade using the Flying Raijin. Before Shisui could react, a kunai was pressed against his waist.
"The outcome is decided, Shisui."
Behind him, Fengtian held the kunai steady, his voice as calm as ever, as if it had all been part of his plan.
"Impossible. Your markers were in the woods. How could you appear behind me?" Shisui turned, his face full of confusion.
"It’s quite simple. I just left a marker on you..."
"That’s impossible. When did you mark me?"
Hearing this, Fengtian pointed to his Mangekyo Sharingan and said, "This is the power of my Mangekyo Sharingan—the ability to rewrite the 'cause' and 'effect' of all things in the world. I took the 'cause' of the marker you destroyed and rewrote it as the 'effect' of you being marked."
"I understand..."
Shisui lowered his short sword, a look of release washing over his face. He had lost, and he had lost completely. However, as a genius of the Uchiha clan, he knew how to accept defeat with grace. Shisui opened his arms, his eyes reverting to their natural state, seemingly prepared for the outcome.
Yet, before Fengtian could move, he felt a kunai pressed against his own waist.
"You were too careless. Did you forget about me?"
