“Brother, what are you thinking about...”

Lu Ye’s unconscious muttering abruptly fell silent halfway through.

Gu Yan, pregnant?

This piece of information instantly filled his mind.

They had been engaged for two years and living together for two years. The old man’s original intention was to let their feelings develop slowly, but he also supported having a child before marriage.

However, Lu Ye hadn’t touched a single hair on Gu Yan in these two years.

She was too dull; every day she acted like a soulless housekeeper. He could even imagine her lying flat on the bed, going through the motions without passion. Compared to other women outside, he had no mood to be involved with her.

So much so that he had never once wondered if Gu Yan might be seeing another man.

What if she was?

Thinking of her reaction just now, Lu Ye’s expression darkened unusually.

No woman had ever dared to cheat on him before.

Dropping the thermos, he strode out of the tea room and headed toward the ladies’ restroom.

Gu Yan had been leaning over the sink, retching for quite some time, but hadn’t thrown up anything. Her throat and cheeks ached painfully.

When Lu Ye entered, he saw through the mirror that her eyes were brimming with tears.

She looked somewhat stunned.

He had never seen her cry before.

She always behaved like a puppet, meticulously managing his daily life without much emotion.

“Feeling unwell?” Lu Ye asked softly.

But inwardly, he cursed himself for being foolish.

Shouldn’t he have grabbed her by the neck and demanded if she had been with some wild man, if she had cheated on him?

Yet, seeing her unable to even stand properly, those big watery eyes looking up at him, Lu Ye bit his lip.

Forget it, they could settle the score later. Fighting with a woman would only make him look weak.

He reached out to steady her. “Want to go to the hospital?”

Gu Yan looked at him oddly. “Why would I go to the hospital? It’s nothing, just a stomach ache.”

Lu Ye’s face grew more serious seeing her like this. “You have to get it checked.”

Gu Yan glanced at him, surprised.

He was usually carefree, so why was he so serious now?

She waved dismissively, thinking it unnecessary. Maybe it was because she had come straight from Taihe Hongyu this morning without breakfast.

“I have to work. Don’t just stand here,” she said, about to leave.

“Gu Yan!” Lu Ye called out in a low voice.

When she turned, he forced himself to compose his expression.

Was she afraid to get checked? Afraid he might hit her?

Lu Ye wanted to say yes, but he remained relatively rational. “Go get checked. Whatever the result, I won’t treat you differently.”

His words sounded strange, and Gu Yan laughed. “Are you cursing me to have some terrible illness?”

“Don’t talk nonsense!”

Gu Yan was stunned by his outburst.

Her temper flared. “Did some man sleep with you last night? Coming here early just to vent? This isn’t two years ago; get your facts straight.”

“It’s not like that...” Lu Ye was choked off.

He hadn’t lost his temper, just raised his voice a little—something that had happened before.

“Get lost.” Gu Yan didn’t give him a chance to speak and returned to her workstation.

Lu Ye stood outside the ladies’ restroom, restraining himself from kicking the wall.

He went back to the tea room to grab the thermos and thought it over. Gu Yan must have her reservations, which was why she didn’t dare to go to the hospital.

He had to find a way to get her tested.

Exiting the tea room, he looked at the thermos in his hand.

It seemed Gu Yan needed the nourishing soup more than his younger uncle right now.

“Hey.” He called out to a female employee, handing her the thermos. “Give this to Secretary Gu. You know her, right?”

Xiao Yi had just seen him and Gu Yan in the restroom.

Although Young Master Lu wasn’t at the Lu Feng headquarters, he was often in the tabloids. Plus, the media company’s president was always seen with female celebrities; they ran into each other every few days.

“Of course I know her.”

Lu Ye nodded. “Go on, I’ll treat you to dinner some other time.”

“Wait.” Lu Ye stopped her again. “Add me on WeChat.”

“Huh?”

Xiao Yi knew that although Young Master Lu was a playboy, it was hard to get his contact info. He was quite selective with women since he was used to seeing top celebrities every day.

“If she drinks it or feels any headaches or fevers, let me know.” Lu Ye added her on WeChat.

Xiao Yi nodded and curiously asked, “Young Master Lu, what’s your relationship with Gu Yan?”

“She’s my...” Lu Ye almost blurted out “wife,” then thought better of it and corrected himself, “I’m pursuing her.”

Xiao Yi was stunned into silence.

A woman who actually had Young Master Lu chasing her?

But Gu Yan was indeed very beautiful—stunning at first glance, increasingly captivating the more you looked at her, more beautiful than any female star. It wasn’t surprising men chased after her.

Xiao Yi carried the thermos over to Gu Yan with a smile. “Gu Yan, Young Master Lu is actually pursuing you?”

Gu Yan was puzzled.

She didn’t say anything, having no idea how to respond.

Xiao Yi had joined the company around the same time as her, only about ten days ago, but was one of the few coworkers Gu Yan was somewhat acquainted with.

Gu Yan smiled faintly and looked at the thermos.

Lu Ye must have been out of his mind—this soup was probably meant for Lu Wentian.

But since he had brought it here, and Xiao Yi asked, Gu Yan couldn’t explain why she knew Lu Wentian.

She could only say, “You drink a bowl too. I can’t finish it.”

She sipped the soup and frowned.

She had thought Lu Ye would have gone to the old residence to bring soup to Lu Wentian, but this was clearly store-bought.

It had ginger in it, which she disliked.

A wave of nausea surged up her throat again.

Without warning, she dropped the bowl and hurried back to the restroom.

Xiao Yi was a bit confused. The soup tasted pretty good to her!

“What are you looking at?” a deep voice interrupted Xiao Yi’s thoughts.

Cong Wen followed her gaze and glanced over.

Xiao Yi was startled, almost spitting the soup back into the bowl, hurriedly putting it down. “Sorry, Secretary Cong, I’m getting back to work...”

Cong Wen waved his hand. “Where’s Gu Yan? There’s work for her.”

Xiao Yi hesitated.

“Well?” Cong Wen pressed.

“Um, can you give it to me? Gu Yan’s not feeling well. She’s already thrown up twice and hasn’t returned yet!”

Cong Wen listened to this plain report, but his expression grew increasingly inscrutable.

He had nearly sent out some documents but pulled them back. “Wait for Gu Yan to return, and have her come to the president’s office to collect a set of materials.”

Then he left.

Lu Wentian looked up just as Cong Wen strode in without knocking, his brow furrowing for a moment. “Out shopping early?”

No knock.

Cong Wen sensed Fourth Master’s displeasure. He was a bit impatient but had no intention of leaving to knock again.

He got straight to the point: “Xiao Yi said Gu Yan just threw up twice.”

Lu Wentian didn’t react much, coldly watching him. “Done shopping?”

Cong Wen said nothing further, but kept his gaze fixed.

After a few seconds, Lu Wentian’s frown deepened.

That night, there had been many instances—some precautions were taken, some not in time.
