“Make time to have dinner with the girl—what kind of attitude is that? Get it straight.” The old man concluded the main point of today’s conversation.

Lu Wentian withdrew his gaze indifferently and responded with a simple “Hmm.”

Lu Zhaohui glanced at him, surprised at how easy-going he was. Curious, he asked, “So you really were just toying with her before?”

Last time, Lu Wentian himself had said it was just for fun.

Lu Wentian set down his teacup. “I still have some work to finish. You start drafting, and I’ll listen when I have time.”

Cong Wen was speechless.

It was obvious that the Fourth Master’s attention hadn’t been on the old man’s words just now; otherwise, he wouldn’t have agreed to have dinner with Qu Yanqing.

As Lu Wentian got up to leave the living room, he glanced at Gu Yan. “Come with me.”

Cong Wen’s eyelid twitched slightly, not expecting him to be so direct.

Having served the Fourth Master for so long, Cong Wen always thought he was steady and composed even facing death, rarely losing control like this.

Hearing this, Lu Ye looked up. “Uncle, you’re such a workaholic, don’t you even let your subordinates rest?”

The old man frowned. “Bringing work home?”

Lu Wentian ignored Lu Ye and didn’t even spare the old man a glance. With a long stride, he left the living room and headed upstairs.

Lu Zhaohui sighed helplessly, “Go ahead, the meal isn’t ready yet.”

He was also at fault, after all, he had placed Gu Yan under Lu Wentian’s supervision to keep her around.

Lu Wentian was already merciful for not making an excuse to dismiss Gu Yan.

Gu Yan was unwilling a hundred times over but had no choice but to follow him upstairs.

Standing outside Lu Wentian’s study, she hesitated for a long time before knocking.

The door opened from the inside.

Under Lu Wentian’s deep, dark gaze, she took two steps in and stopped a few paces from the door.

“Do you need me to prepare any materials, President Lu?”

Lu Wentian was almost at his desk but turned his head at her somewhat distant voice and noticed how far away she was standing.

Gu Yan didn’t know what had happened to him today, but she could clearly feel a layer of restraint enveloping him.

She watched him walk to his desk, casually pick up the cigarette case, flick out a cigarette, and grab a lighter.

The flame was already lit.

But for some reason, he extinguished it and didn’t smoke.

He didn’t put the cigarette back neatly but crushed it almost to pieces and casually tossed it into the nearby trash bin.

Throughout this, he showed no anger or dark expression, but Gu Yan was even more certain of his displeasure.

“Did you sleep with Lu Ye?”

Gu Yan didn’t respond.

She had asked the question and was fully focused on what he would say next, but maybe because she was too focused, she didn’t hear clearly.

Her clear eyes were fixed squarely on him.

Lu Wentian frowned but smoothed his expression. “Which word don’t you understand?”

Seeing him stride over step by step, his breath close enough to make her head feel tight, Lu Wentian lifted her chin gently with two fingers.

“Did you sleep with him?”

“Whose child is it?”

Each sentence he had thought over countless times.

Before him, Lu Wentian knew she had no other men. They had a two-year engagement, and Lu Ye had never touched her. That night with him was indeed the first.

But now, after so many days, it was possible she had been with someone else.

Lu Ye had never had her in his eyes before, but recently, he had been paying attention to her.

For a man to change so much in a short time, the first thing to consider was this matter.

Though cliché, it was realistic.

Gu Yan listened silently to his two consecutive questions, his tone low but seemingly emotionless, which shocked her into stillness.

“What are you talking about?”

“How could I be pregnant?”

Gu Yan thought his questions were absurd.

But obviously, the man before her didn’t believe a single word of her denial. His eyes revealed his doubt.

Unless she provided undeniable proof.

“That night… didn’t you use protection?” She didn’t want to delve into details but had no choice.

He couldn’t be invincible just because he wore a condom.

Gu Yan recalled the events of that night again.

While in bed, he had indeed opened the drawer by the bedside to get something at the last moment.

Afterwards, she went to shower; even during that moment in the bathroom, he hadn’t been careless.

Gu Yan even remembered the late-night time when, for some unknown reason, arousal struck suddenly, but if she wasn’t mistaken, he went to get something midway.

She didn’t know what he took, but the difference in feeling was obvious—it was clear he had used protection.

Seeing Lu Wentian silent, Gu Yan boldly looked at him.

“Are you afraid I’m pregnant and it will ruin your chance to reconcile with your ex?”

Gu Yan answered firmly, “I wouldn’t cause trouble, nor would I use something like this to threaten you.”

Her words bore no hint of desire for him.

Lu Wentian’s eyes turned cold briefly, but he still looked composed and refined, revealing no emotion.

“Without solid proof, everything you say is futile.”

What did he mean? Did he want her to take a pregnancy test?

Gu Yan’s first thought was no!

She would have medical records, and if Lu Ye or the old man found out, how could she explain?

“Lu Wentian.” Gu Yan grew anxious and dropped formalities. “It’s only been half a month since we were together. How could you tell I’m pregnant?”

In such a short time, even if she were pregnant, there wouldn’t be any signs.

“The implication being, since I don’t see it, you plan to keep it a secret?”

Gu Yan was speechless.

Talking to a capitalist was exhausting.

“How did Lu Ye find out?” Lu Wentian asked again.

Gu Yan frowned immediately.

Lu Ye knew?

“You told Lu Ye?”

“You’re crazy!”

Seeing her sudden outburst, Lu Wentian narrowed his eyes slightly. “Afraid he would find out.”

Gu Yan thought he was mad.

“Shouldn’t I be afraid? I’m his fiancée, and I’m carrying his uncle’s child—what do you want from me? If you want to ruin me, just say it!”

Lu Wentian had known her for more than a day or two. She and Lu Ye had been engaged for two years, and he had been watching her all that time.

She was always calm and steady, only occasionally sly in private, rarely this irritable.

“I thought you had shared it with Lu Ye.” Lu Wentian tried to restore some calm.

Gu Yan’s heart was pounding, glaring at him without restraint. “Am I crazy to share that with him? I haven’t even slept with him!”

Lu Wentian studied her quietly for two seconds.

It seemed she truly had nothing with Lu Ye.

“Go to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow’s the weekend.” Gu Yan snapped.

“No way am I going!”

“No discussion.” Lu Wentian’s tone was unyielding.

Gu Yan knew his style—if he wanted her to go, he’d have a way to keep the family from finding out.
