Chapter Nineteen: The Two Successfully Join the Company

“The young master’s score is 68 strokes.”

Upon hearing this, An Xingcai let out a faint snort.

He was somewhat dissatisfied with the score, feeling that he hadn’t performed well today.

The staff member trembled as he spoke, “Th-this guest’s score is 65 strokes.”

Not knowing Ning Huaizhi’s name, he could only address her like this.

But at this moment, no one cared about how he referred to her.

An Xingcai’s face was filled with shock, Zhou Jiajia looked pleasantly surprised, while the calmest person on the field was Ning Huaizhi.

Her expression was serene, as if she had long anticipated this outcome.

“How is that possible?”

An Xingcai reached out and snatched the scorecard from the staff member’s hand.

The strokes for all eighteen holes were recorded clearly, without a single mistake. No matter how many times he recounted, the total remained the same.

Such a basic error as miscalculation was something an experienced employee wouldn’t make, so this had to be the final result.

He had actually lost to this person.

An Xingcai couldn’t accept it and stood frozen in place.

Ning Huaizhi stepped in front of him and looked him straight in the eye.

“Young master, how is it? Have you calculated the final results?”

Her words were tinged with irony. An Xingcai clenched his teeth and replied, “What do you want?”

“I just want to prove my ability. Young master, why harbor such hostility toward me? Didn’t you question my ability first?”

An Xingcai took a deep breath.

Indeed.

He was the one who questioned first.

He had only lost his composure earlier out of surprise, but now he had calmed down.

“I’m sorry, I was prejudiced against you. You’ve proven with your skills that I was wrong. I apologize.”

An Xingcai spoke these words not out of reluctance, but with genuine acceptance.

To lose is to lose, and there’s no excuse.

Ning Huaizhi smiled and crossed her arms.

“So, do I have what it takes to be a caddie?”

“Of course, you passed. I’ll have someone take you to complete your onboarding shortly. After you join, you can live in the staff dormitory…”

“No need. I’m not looking to work full-time; I’m only here for part-time.”

An Xingcai was somewhat surprised.

He looked her over and felt she was rather young.

He had thought she merely looked youthful but hadn’t expected her to be genuinely young.

“You’re… still a student?”

“Yes, I study at Jing City University.”

“What a coincidence, I’m at Jing City University too.”

Ning Huaizhi raised an eyebrow, seemingly puzzled why he mentioned that.

“So it seems we truly are fated to meet. Have you really not considered being my exclusive caddie?” An Xingcai’s expression was sincere and earnest.

His previous remarks had been teasing and mocking, but now he genuinely hoped she would accept.

She was capable, and having her assist him might help him perform better.

And whenever he wanted to compete, he’d always have someone to play against.

Most importantly, she didn’t flatter him nor hold back against him. Playing together would surely be enjoyable.

That was the most appealing aspect to him.

“No, thank you.” Ning Huaizhi declined once more.

An Xingcai was disappointed but had no intention of forcing her.

“Very well. Regardless, I was at fault before. To make up for it, even if you’re part-time, I’ll pay you full-time wages.”

Even if she wasn’t his exclusive caddie, he could still hire someone when he played.

No one would be foolish enough to compete with him, after all.

Ning Huaizhi didn’t refuse outright but paused thoughtfully.

“If you insist on compensating me, I have one condition. I wonder if you can agree.”

“Go ahead.”

“Jiajia came here with me. Since I’ll be working here, I hope she can work alongside me.”

Zhou Jiajia looked at Ning Huaizhi in surprise.

She had thought her chance of joining had vanished, but Ning Huaizhi still remembered her.

An Xingcai glanced at Zhou Jiajia, feeling conflicted.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t decide, but this was somewhat irregular.

Jiajia didn’t fully understand golf’s rules. If he allowed her to stay, it might violate hiring policies and invite criticism.

Ning Huaizhi seemed to understand his hesitation and spoke before he could respond.

“Jiajia admittedly doesn’t understand golf rules, but I will teach her. There’s no need to trouble others. If she truly can’t learn and needs to be dismissed, I won’t object.”

Reluctantly, An Xingcai nodded.

“Alright, I’ll let her stay for now. But if she doesn’t perform well, I won’t keep her.”

Jiajia was overjoyed and thanked him repeatedly.

“Thank you, young master. I will cherish this job.”

“Good. You two should go complete the onboarding procedures. As I said, she’ll receive full-time pay, and Jiajia will be considered part-time.”

An Xingcai looked weary as he finished giving instructions and turned to leave.

Unable to contain her gratitude, Zhou Jiajia threw her arms around Ning Huaizhi’s waist, burying her head against her and nuzzling like a little dog.

“Huaizhi, you’re too good to me. How can I ever repay you?”

Ning Huaizhi laughed heartily.

“Alright, alright, I don’t need repayment. This is fine as it is. Besides, you really need this job, don’t you?”

Jiajia nodded vigorously, then smiled.

“Huaizhi, I’ll treat you to dinner tonight.”

Just as Ning Huaizhi was about to respond, Jiajia quickly covered her mouth with her hand.

“Remember, no backing out. If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as a yes. Three, two, one… okay, you agreed.”

Jiajia spoke rapidly, afraid of being turned down at any moment.

Ning Huaizhi sighed but felt a warmth in her heart.

Well, she was grateful to her, so she might as well agree.

The onboarding process went smoothly.

Since An Xingcai had already spoken, even if others were displeased, they had to properly complete the procedure.

“They need you to write down a name here for guests to address you. You can use your real name or choose a nickname.”

Jiajia hesitated briefly and wrote “Jiajia.”

Ning Huaizhi glanced at it and then wrote “Zhizhi” beside hers.

Simple reduplicated names were easier for guests to remember and not too complicated.

After finishing the onboarding, the two left.

Starting the next weekend, they would begin work.

Ning Huaizhi sighed.

This feeling of fixed employment reminded her of the days in her previous life, constantly immersed in the laboratory, as though she were steeped in experimental equipment.

The difference was, last time doing experiments was out of passion and for her future; this time, it was simply to earn a living.

Starting over, work always wore one down.

But compared to the jobs in her past life, being a caddie on a golf course was quite a good job.
