Chapter 2: The Beginning of the Divine Physician’s Entry into a Wealthy Household
“I am Niu Yichen, a friend of Miss Zhan Qingxue,” Niu Yichen replied calmly, his composure unshaken, completely unaffected by the old butler’s domineering attitude.
The old butler sized Niu Yichen up and down, his eyes brimming with disdain. “A friend? I’d say you look more like a freeloading fraud! Do you know where the Zhan family stands? We don’t just let any stray dog or cat waltz in here!” His tone was sharp and caustic, just like a villainous butler in a television drama.
“Sir, one can be careless with food, but not with words. Whether I’m a fraud or not is something Miss Qingxue knows very well,” Niu Yichen said evenly, even managing a faint smile.
This old fellow really thought highly of himself.
“Miss Qingxue isn’t here right now and has no time for riffraff like you. I suggest you leave before I’m forced to be rude!” The butler said as he signaled to the bodyguards behind him.
Immediately, several bodyguards stepped forward, surrounding Niu Yichen with a threatening air, as if ready to attack at the slightest provocation.
The scene looked more like a gangland shootout than a mere family estate confrontation.
Niu Yichen glanced around, his eyes lingering briefly on the mansion’s layout.
The Zhan family truly was wealthy beyond measure—the decor and furnishings were extravagantly opulent to a degree almost cruel.
Yet, the feng shui arrangement…
Seemed a bit off.
He continued to observe quietly, completely ignoring the glaring bodyguards.
To him, the old butler and these bodyguards were nothing more than lowly henchmen.
The butler grew even more furious at Niu Yichen’s calm demeanor.
This brat actually dared to ignore him?
Utterly outrageous!
“It seems you prefer punishment to courtesy!” the butler sneered coldly, about to order the bodyguards to act…
Suddenly, Niu Yichen spoke up: “The feng shui of this mansion doesn’t seem very good…”
Just as the butler was about to lose his temper, a crisp female voice rang out from behind: “Stop!”
Zhan Qingxue approached confidently in high heels.
Dressed in a sharp professional outfit that accentuated her flawless figure, she exuded undeniable queenly poise.
Seeing Niu Yichen surrounded, she furrowed her brows slightly, a flicker of displeasure crossing her eyes.
“Miss Qingxue…” The butler’s face changed instantly, his expression melting into a sycophantic smile as he bowed deeply.
His rapid change of expression would have been worthy of a Sichuan opera stage.
Zhan Qingxue ignored him completely and stepped before Niu Yichen, her tone laced with apology: “Mr. Niu, I’m sorry you had to endure that.”
Then she turned to the butler, her voice icy: “Butler Wang, this is Mr. Niu, my lifesaver! His status is far more honorable than you imagine! From now on, Mr. Niu holds the same authority in the Zhan family as I do. Understand?”
The butler’s grin froze painfully, like he had swallowed a fly.
Honorable?
More honorable than him?
Who exactly was this guy?
He stole a glance at Niu Yichen, his mind swirling with suspicion and resentment.
But he dared not disobey Zhan Qingxue’s words, forced to nod reluctantly, “Yes, Miss Qingxue, I understand,” while inwardly cursing the luck that had favored this brat.
Nearby, some Zhan family relatives watching the scene whispered among themselves, their eyes full of envy and disdain.
“What’s this guy’s background? Why is Qingxue so protective of him?”
“Hmph, I bet he’s just a pretty boy, here to scam women for money!”
“Exactly, Qingxue’s really blinded by infatuation!”
A middle-aged woman adorned with glittering jewels approached Niu Yichen, eyeing him up and down with a sarcastic smirk: “Oh, so you’re Qingxue’s savior? You don’t look particularly special. Unlike my husband—he’s the CEO of a publicly listed company, worth hundreds of millions!” She flaunted her diamond ring ostentatiously, its brilliance rivaling a spotlight.
Another middle-aged man in a designer suit joined in, nodding: “Yeah, these days, scammers are everywhere! Young man, you’d better watch out—don’t get your money or your life taken!” He spoke while patting Niu Yichen’s shoulder with a knowing look.
Niu Yichen met their sneers and boasts with a slight smile, neither confirming nor denying.
He didn’t take these clowns seriously at all.
Just a pack of buffoons.
Just as he was about to respond, suddenly—
A servant carrying a tea tray slipped nearby, falling straight backward with a loud thud, unconscious.
Chaos erupted immediately, screams and startled cries filling the air.
Even the bodyguards who had been glaring at Niu Yichen moments before were now like headless flies, helplessly staring.
“Everyone, step aside!” Niu Yichen commanded in a low voice, pushing through the crowd to the fallen servant.
He knelt down, placing his fingers on the servant’s wrist, frowning slightly.
“Stroke. Luckily, you were found in time.” He pulled a delicate porcelain bottle from his pocket, tipped out a pill, and placed it into the servant’s mouth.
Then, with swift precision, he pressed several acupuncture points on the servant’s body.
A miraculous scene unfolded: the servant, pale and lifeless moments ago, slowly opened his eyes.
“What… what happened to me?” the servant asked, bewildered.
“You’re fine now,” Niu Yichen said coolly. “Be careful when you walk from now on.” He rose and brushed dust from his clothes, as if what he had just done was a trivial matter.
Everyone around was dumbfounded.
This was too incredible!
One moment, the servant seemed near death; the next, he was lively and alert.
This medical skill was nothing short of miraculous!
The Zhan relatives who had mocked Niu Yichen were now as mute as ducks with their throats pinched.
Their faces displayed a mixture of shock, embarrassment, and—
A trace of fear.
This guy wasn’t just a pretty face; he was a hidden master.
Zhan Qingxue looked at Niu Yichen with eyes full of admiration and gratitude.
She gently hooked her arm through his and spoke softly, “Mr. Niu, thank you.”
She could feel a powerful sense of security emanating from him, bringing her immense comfort.
Feeling the warmth of her arm, Niu Yichen smiled faintly. “It’s nothing, just a small favor.”
Yet beneath this seemingly harmonious scene, Niu Yichen keenly sensed a subtle, chilling aura quietly spreading.
He scanned the faces of the seemingly respectful servants and Zhan relatives, his mind sharpening with caution.
The Zhan family was not as peaceful as it appeared on the surface…
He lifted a cup of tea just served by a servant, bringing it gently to his nose to sniff, his eyes narrowing slightly…
“This tea…”
