Chapter 24: Hmph, who says I wet myself?

Fang Ming said unhurriedly, “Everyone experiences it differently. Therefore, for the entire day today, your first task is to learn how to sense the vital energy within your bodies.”
“Everyone, stand up.”
At his words, everyone rose. The man at the lectern snapped his fingers, and the chairs and desks behind them began to move as if controlled by hidden mechanisms, retracting into the floor.
The spectacular and astonishing sight left many people staring in stunned silence. Di Qiu was shaken as well, thinking to herself, “So this is the world of supernatural powers?”
Anyone would have been intimidated by such a display.
“You may sit down. Relax both your body and mind as I have. Feel the flow of the vital energy within you. Once you grasp that mass of energy, you will have succeeded. Congratulations—your feet will have fully crossed the threshold into the world of supernatural powers.
“At that point, the first thing to do is try guiding the energy to your foreheads. Everyone who awakens a supernatural ability possesses a third eye. This eye is an important means of sensing the presence of the uncanny.
“When you can manipulate that mass of energy with ease, congratulations—you will have become a qualified newcomer to the world of supernatural powers.”
Driven by a powerful thirst for knowledge, all the students followed his instructions. Di Qiu closed her eyes and sensed the changes within her body.
She had awakened her ability only the day before, and over the past two days she had hardly had any free time to examine her physical condition. Now, following the teacher’s instructions, she quieted her mind and focused inward.
Ten minutes later.
Care to guess what happened?
Nothing—
That would be wrong.
She had truly sensed a mass of vital energy moving through her body.
Perhaps it was because of her special advantage, but Di Qiu felt that cultivating in this area was completely effortless.
Following Fang Ming’s instructions, she tried guiding the energy within her toward her forehead. As it traveled through every part of her body, she felt a warm current coursing through her. The sensation was very similar to what she had experienced when she had randomly thrown punches the previous day.
Could she have unintentionally activated the energy within her yesterday?
Di Qiu quickly cast aside her distracting thoughts and concentrated. After completing the process perfectly, she vaguely sensed shadowy forms surrounding her.
Suddenly, someone cried out beside her, “Teacher, what is that behind you?”
“Is it the uncanny?”
Many people were startled into opening their eyes. “There’s nothing there.”
“There really is something. You must not have succeeded. Practice a little more.”
Some people, however, continued keeping their eyes closed, focusing on the state of their bodies despite the commotion around them.

Like the curious students, Di Qiu opened her eyes as well. Even though she had mentally prepared herself, she was still startled.
A massive black creature stood behind Fang Ming, its entire body exuding black vapor.
Everyone who saw the scene was shocked to some degree.
Only Fang Ming remained perfectly at ease. Holding a thermos, he sat atop the lectern and observed the condition of each student.
“Not bad. It seems this year’s freshmen have excellent comprehension. Quite a few of you have already seen the uncanny behind me. Don’t be afraid; this particular entity is completely harmless for now. Those of you still sensing the energy in your bodies needn’t hurry, either. There is still plenty of time. I believe all of you will be able to sense it before class ends at noon.”
Di Qiu’s brow twitched.
This teacher…
Although his words were meant to reassure them, they also contained an unmistakable urging—a clearly imposed deadline.
Everyone had to open their third eye before noon.
“Still, calling it a third eye isn’t entirely accurate. It would be more precise to say that you are opening your spiritual aperture and sensing the aura of the uncanny. What truly allows you to see the uncanny is still this pair of eyes.”
Di Qiu opened her eyes, then closed them again. She even touched her smooth forehead before finally forming her own conclusion about the so-called “third eye.”
She maintained the mass of energy at her forehead until her face flushed slightly from the strain. Then she tried returning it to its original position and seeing whether she could still perceive the uncanny behind Fang Ming.
As expected, the uncanny vanished like smoke on the wind.
…
Di Qiu’s thoughts inevitably wandered back to yesterday’s examination, when they had been tested on their ability to locate uncanny seals.
Could this be the first step in a universal method for breaking uncanny seals?
She guessed that uncanny entities sealed within objects might emit an aura invisible to ordinary people.
To sense that aura, supernatural ability users would need to rely on the so-called third eye to locate the sealed uncanny.
Excited voices gradually rose throughout the classroom.
“I did it! I can see it too!”
“Damn, is that what the uncanny looks like? It’s kind of frightening.”
“Teacher, don’t tell me you had that uncanny entity on your back from the very beginning?”
Fang Ming pretended to be surprised and chatted with the students. “Oh dear, you noticed? I thought there would be a surprise waiting for everyone when they arrived this morning. I didn’t expect you all to act so normally at first. I was beginning to wonder whether this uncanny entity simply wasn’t frightening enough.”
The classroom filled with low murmurs, and it seemed that no one paid much attention to the students who were still sensing the energy within their bodies.
Fang Ming explained that if supernatural ability users needed complete silence to mobilize the energy within their bodies in the future, then they would not qualify as true ability users.
During the lesson, Di Qiu curiously manipulated the energy within her body. She discovered that it could be divided into several portions and sent coursing through different parts of her body.
She tried directing one portion into her palm, opening and closing her fist.

She really wanted to test how powerful a punch like that would be.
Unfortunately, there was still a long time before class ended.
The classroom had now become a place for conversation. Most of the freshmen asked questions while Fang Ming answered them.
As Di Qiu circulated the energy within her body and listened to Fang Ming’s replies, she gradually gained a rough understanding of it. If used at high intensity for an entire day, this energy would weaken. Since it was linked to one’s supernatural ability level, the lower an ability user’s level, the more rapidly their energy would be depleted.
Sure enough, over the course of that hour or so, Di Qiu could clearly feel that the mass of energy within her had shrunk considerably. After resting for more than ten minutes, however, it slowly recovered to its original size.
While everyone was still immersed in exploring the nature of the energy, the bell signaling the end of class rang.
Even the students who had fallen behind eventually managed to sense the energy within their bodies. Fang Ming’s smiling threat had indeed been effective.
“All right, that concludes today’s lesson. You all have quite a talent for this. No wonder you were chosen by fate to become supernatural ability users.”
Fang Ming praised them with a genial smile. Several adolescent boys with an overactive sense of drama heard those words, and their eyes lit up as if they had been injected with stimulants. The corners of their mouths even curled upward slightly.
“Not at all, Teacher. It’s all thanks to your excellent instruction.”
“That goes without saying. This world could never do without a hero like me!”
Two entirely different voices rang out across the classroom.
“Give it a rest. Come back after you can see the uncanny without wetting yourself.”
“Hmph! Who says I wet myself?”
“When you saw the uncanny behind the teacher just now, I noticed that your crotch looked a little damp.”
“Get lost, you pervert! You were actually staring at my crotch?”
Fang Ming laughed as well. “Tomorrow, assemble here at nine as usual. The second lesson will be an introduction to the uncanny.”
“Wait, Teacher. Don’t we have classes in the afternoon?”
“For the rest of the day, familiarize yourselves with your own vital energy. Consider it homework from your teacher.”
