Chapter 7: Arrogance and Tyranny
"After wandering around for the entire morning, I have finally explored the entire Wild Wolf Gang and familiarized myself with the residences of almost every deacon. Finally, I have settled on my ultimate targets!" Jiang Fan muttered to himself, feeling somewhat troubled.
His main dilemma was how to offend those chosen deacons so severely that they would harbor murderous intent toward him, all while ensuring his own safety and keeping his actions undetected.
"If I provoke them directly, they wouldn't dare kill me easily as long as I remain within the Wild Wolf Gang. But if I take the initiative to offend them, I will inevitably be discovered! Once that happens, if I transfer the sensation of fatigue to them during my cultivation, it will be very easy for the truth to come to light..." Various thoughts raced through Jiang Fan's mind until, suddenly, his eyes lit up.
"Right! Aren't there three deacons in charge of the businesses on Nanping Street in Ping'an Town? That's it..." Jiang Fan felt a surge of excitement, though he did not rush to act; instead, he headed straight out of the Wild Wolf Gang.
About an hour later, Jiang Fan arrived at Nanping Street in Ping'an Town.
Looking at the bustling, prosperous street and listening to the cacophony of voices, Jiang Fan felt as if he were living in a different world. The street before him was lined with buildings full of ancient charm, and the road was filled with various snacks, trinkets, daily necessities, and food, leaving Jiang Fan overwhelmed by the sights.
Jiang Fan couldn't help but take out the silver he had just obtained to buy some snacks; they were, in fact, quite delicious.
"For now, I should first go to the medical clinics on Nanping Street to see if anyone can cure the poison in my body." The Seven-Day Heart-Eating Powder was like a thorn in his side, preventing him from ever feeling at ease. He worried that if he couldn't transfer the poison, he would be forced to remain at the mercy of Old Demon Xu. After all, his life was still in the old man's hands.
Soon, he arrived at a very busy medical clinic and found the most famous doctor there, the renowned Dr. Li.
"Young man, are you here to see a doctor? Extend your hand." Dr. Li looked at Jiang Fan with a smile, appearing very kind.
"I leave it to you." Jiang Fan complied and held out his hand.
Dr. Li began to take his pulse, but gradually, his expression grew puzzled. He couldn't help but ask, "Young man, are you sure you are actually ill? I have many patients waiting for treatment here. If you are fine, you may leave."
"Dr. Li, can you truly not see that I am sick?" Jiang Fan asked, unable to help himself. He had long guessed that Old Demon Xu's Seven-Day Heart-Eating Powder was no simple poison, but he hadn't expected that even a renowned doctor like Dr. Li would see nothing at all. If he couldn't even detect the poisoning, Jiang Fan didn't believe Dr. Li had the ability to cure him, yet he remained unwilling to give up.
"Young man, you might have some psychological issues. Don't overthink it. I have already checked your pulse; you have no symptoms and are healthier than most people! Go on!" Dr. Li issued an order to leave, his voice turning colder.
"Dr. Li, I have been poisoned by a colorless and odorless toxin called the Seven-Day Heart-Eating Powder. Are you sure you really didn't notice?" Jiang Fan asked, clinging to a final shred of hope.
"I said, you are not sick! Poisoned, you say? If you were truly poisoned, would I, the old man, not be able to tell?" Dr. Li said impatiently, then looked at an apprentice who was weighing herbs and said, "Xiao Lang, see the guest out!"
Powerless, Jiang Fan left the clinic in disappointment. He was unwilling to give up, so he searched every medical clinic on Nanping Street. He even consulted several elderly people and spoke with every doctor he could find, but the results were largely the same. Only a few clinics, seeing his youth, tried to swindle him for medicine money, but when Jiang Fan produced the token given to him by Old Demon Xu of the Wild Wolf Gang, the greedy old doctors were so terrified they kowtowed and begged for mercy.
"It seems that Old Demon Xu's poison cannot be detected by ordinary mortals. I can only wait until the poison takes effect to see what happens."
Jiang Fan took a deep breath and, carrying the token, walked straight to the most prosperous inn on Nanping Street.
"This must be the Daxuan Inn, guarded by Deacon Ling, the seventh deacon of the Wild Wolf Gang..." Looking at the inn named Daxuan, a cold glint flashed in Jiang Fan's eyes. He then swaggered into the tavern, holding the token given to him by Old Demon Xu.
"Young guest, are you here for a meal or to stay?" A beautiful woman immediately walked up to greet him, smiling as she introduced the place, not forgetting to give him a wink. "Our Daxuan Inn is the largest and most luxurious on all of Nanping Street. We not only provide all kinds of delicacies, but we also offer special services. I see you are a new face, young guest; since you are so young, if you stay, this sister can offer you a complimentary special service."
"Special service? Complimentary?" Jiang Fan smiled slightly. He hadn't expected an ancient inn like this to have special services; it was almost like the high-end hotels on Earth. However, his purpose for coming here was not just to eat or stay, and he wasn't casual about such matters. He immediately laughed, "Forget about the special services for now. Just bring me a table of the most expensive food and wine you have. As for the rest, we'll talk after I've eaten!"
"Cough, cough! Well, young guest, our prices here are quite high; you'll need to..." the beauty said, offering an apologetic smile.
"I am a disciple of the Immortal Xu of the Wild Wolf Gang. Here is the token! Are you worried I won't have the money to pay the bill?" Jiang Fan said coldly, holding up the black token.
The woman was instantly shocked. She stepped forward to examine the black token in Jiang Fan's hand, and soon she calmed down, speaking respectfully: "So you are a disciple of Immortal Xu. My apologies, my apologies! Please follow me, young guest! I will take you to a private room on the second floor of the Daxuan Inn."
"Lead the way," Jiang Fan said flatly, following her.
As soon as they arrived at the door of a second-floor private room, Jiang Fan saw it was full of guests. He immediately said to the beautiful attendant, "I want this room. Make them all get out!"
Jiang Fan's voice was loud enough for everyone in the room to hear clearly. The guests inside were instantly enraged.
"Where did this brat come from? How dare you tell us to get out? Are you looking for death?"
"A newborn calf that knows no fear! Let me go and teach him a lesson!"
"Too arrogant! Today, I'll teach you a lesson you won't forget!"
The ten guests seated at the table were clearly of significant status, and they stood up one by one, ready to lash out at Jiang Fan.
The beautiful attendant was terrified, her face pale. She quickly stepped forward to block Jiang Fan, hurriedly explaining, "Gentlemen, please calm down! This young master is from the Wild Wolf Gang, and his status is quite significant! Please give the Wild Wolf Gang some face and don't take offense, alright? How about this: I, on behalf of Daxuan Inn, will cover the cost of your meal today!"
Hearing the attendant's words, the group was wary of the Wild Wolf Gang's power. Learning that this boy had a significant position within the gang—and getting a free meal out of it—they all backed down.
But Jiang Fan spoke coldly, "I said, make them all get out!"
With that, he stormed into the room, overturned the entire table of food and wine, and shouted sternly, "Are you not going to leave yet? Do you want me to do it myself and throw you out?"
Silence. The entire room fell into a dead silence. The beautiful attendant was thoroughly frightened, not knowing what to do.
Guests in the surrounding rooms, who had been eating, were also startled by the commotion. They stopped their meals and stepped out of their rooms, ready to watch the unfolding spectacle...
