Chapter One Hundred: Again and Again
Sang Yijia had no idea what was happening to her. She could hear the sounds around her, knew she was unconscious, but could not wake up. Sang Yijia desperately wanted to open her eyes, yet she lacked even the strength to lift her eyelids. She wished she could tell the doctors that she was all right, but she could do nothing.
She didn’t know how much time had passed before she could finally open her eyes. However, the scene before her was not that of a hospital ward. She found herself enveloped in darkness, with a giant screen above her displaying the plot of the book, though it was not exactly the same as she remembered.
Confused, Sang Yijia stood still and watched every scene unfold, slowly recalling everything. This was not the first time she had entered this book.
The first time she crossed into the story, Sang Yijia refused to submit to the fate dictated by the narrative. She resisted again and again, but it was futile. The content of the book was fixed and immutable.
Yet Sang Yijia appeared. Time and again, she tried to change her destiny, which drew the attention of the master of the story. To make Sang Yijia willingly serve the book, the master continuously erased her memories, casting her back into the story again and again, hoping she would be assimilated and turned into a puppet.
However, Sang Yijia’s sense of self was strong. Each time, she awoke to her true consciousness, though with every new beginning, the time it took for her to awaken grew longer.
If this continued, she would eventually be assimilated.
But now the plot within the book was completely disordered. Unbeknownst to the master, the main storyline had begun to follow the timeline shaped by Sang Yijia’s awakened consciousness, and the master could no longer control its development.
“Is this what you wanted?”
A voice, ancient and distant, suddenly echoed.
Sang Yijia’s heart leapt. “You are the master.”
“Little human, why do you refuse to follow the original storyline?”
“If you simply finish Sang Yijia’s story, you can return to your world. Why are you so stubborn?”
“Because I am myself, not ‘Sang Yijia’,” she replied. “Even if I share the same name, I remember how I came here. I have my own principles and convictions.”
The master fell silent.
After a long pause, the master asked slowly, “You have changed this world, but you can never go back. Is it worth it?”
Sang Yijia was silent. “Sorry, I don’t know.”
“I only did what I won’t regret now.”
As for the future, Sang Yijia was uncertain.
The master understood.
In the chaotic space, silence reigned.
Before Sang Yijia’s eyes, the scenes were edited and spliced into an entirely new narrative. As she watched these fragments, she learned what had happened over the past twenty years.
Sang Yijia saw the events between herself and Lu Wenchuan, witnessed the three years spent with Duan Yuqing, recalled the beautiful moments with her family, and even saw the efforts her parents and brothers made to protect her…
—
“Doctor, what is my daughter’s condition right now?” Sang’s mother and Sang Qiwu were the first to arrive.
Sang’s mother knew Lu Wenchuan, but this was not the time to bring up that matter. Her heart and mind were filled only with the sight of Sang Yijia in the hospital room.
“Mrs. Sang, please, let’s talk in the office.” The attending physician, masked, invited Sang’s mother aside, speaking as they walked. “Miss Sang’s condition—her vitals are all stable. For now, we cannot determine the cause of her current state.”
“But we will do all the necessary tests.” The physician’s pace was brisk as he removed his mask. “Miss Sang’s coma was sudden. I want to ask if she has any psychological issues, or if something might have triggered her?”
Sang’s mother was silent.
Sang Qiwu clenched his fists so tightly that the veins stood out on the backs of his hands, making him look even more fierce.
“It might be because of me,” Lu Wenchuan said, unable to think of any other reason.
The doctor raised his brows in surprise. “Because of you?”
“Doctor, let’s discuss this in your office,” Sang’s mother interrupted Lu Wenchuan, looking up at the physician.
Sang’s mother and the physician went into the office, closing the door behind them.
Lu Wenchuan and Sang Qiwu remained outside.
“This episode is over. Next time, I don’t want to see you and my sister on the same show.” Sang Qiwu still remembered digging his little sister out of the dirt—her face pale, her breath barely there.
If not for the timely rescue, Sang Yijia would have vanished from this world forever.
But all this, if Sang Yijia hadn’t stumbled upon Lu Wenchuan’s kidnapping, the abductors wouldn’t have grabbed her as well.
Sang Qiwu glared fiercely at Lu Wenchuan, warning him again, “You made yourself clear, and you promised us back then.”
“Yes.” Lu Wenchuan couldn’t deny it.
Sang Qiwu’s fists tightened, “But you broke your promise.”
“Yes.” Lu Wenchuan still couldn’t deny it.
“I’m very sorry,” Lu Wenchuan admitted his fault.
Sang Qiwu genuinely wanted to beat Lu Wenchuan, but seeing his remorse for Sang Yijia’s coma, his raised fist fell back down.
“What are you doing?” Sang Zheng arrived just in time to witness the scene, his expression turning stern. “Sang Qiwu, this is a hospital. What do you think you’re doing?”
“Dad…” Sang Qiwu protested, glancing at Lu Wenchuan, unsure whether to speak.
Sang Zheng recognized Lu Wenchuan as the boy from years ago. “I understand.”
“Right now, Jia Jia’s condition is the most important thing. Everything else can wait.”
“Uncle, I’m very sorry,” Lu Wenchuan said sincerely, knowing the Sang family would come as soon as Sang Yijia was hospitalized. “This is my fault.”
Sang Zheng waved a hand. “I saw the livestream—it’s not your fault.”
“What’s the current situation? What did the doctors say?” Sang Zheng didn’t want to talk further with Lu Wenchuan; he was desperate to know how Sang Yijia was doing.
“Mom is inside talking to the doctor,” Sang Qiwu lowered his head, his gaze downcast. “The doctor just said all my sister’s vitals are normal—she’s comatose without any apparent cause.”
“When she’ll wake up—no one knows.” This condition was no different from being in a vegetative state, but Sang Qiwu refused to accept it.
“When Third Brother gets here, he’ll surely have a solution.”
Sang Zheng fell silent, clenching his fists tightly before pounding them against the wall with a heavy thud.
Lu Wenchuan stood nearby, anxious and helpless, able only to send people in search of doctors—the best doctors in the world.
Inside the ward, Sang’s mother explained everything that had happened to the attending physician. “Did this have a significant impact on my daughter?”
After this event, everything would be reshuffled…
