Chapter One Hundred and Ten: Did Not Disappoint
“What are you looking at?”
Seeing that Sang Yijia had finished her call and was still staring at her phone instead of coming back to eat, Sang Qiwen could not help walking over to take a look. But Yijia quickly turned the screen off, and he did not get a clear look at what she had been viewing.
“Nothing.” Yijia was startled by him and, for reasons she herself could not explain, instinctively shut the phone off. She was already an adult; glancing at a picture she should not really be looking at ought to count for something.
But she was afraid all the same and did not dare let Qiwen know, so she simply hid the phone behind her back.
Qiwen’s brows drew together. Everyone had their privacy, so he did not think much of it. “Come eat.”
“Okay.” Yijia nodded and went back to the bedside with her phone, sitting down again.
When Mother Sang saw that Yijia had returned and noticed that the shredded chicken porridge in her bowl was nearly finished, she asked, “Do you want more?”
“I made plenty.”
“Thank you, Mom.” Yijia had another bowl. Just when she was still wanting more, she was stopped by Qiwen.
“Mom, Little Sister just woke up. She can’t eat too much at once, and it’s late already. A little is enough.” Qiwen watched as their mother was prevented from continuing to ladle more porridge for Yijia.
Seeing that she really could not eat any more, Yijia pressed her lips together and said nothing further. “Mom, I’m full.”
“Really?” Mother Sang looked at Yijia carefully, then turned to look at Qiwen, and then back at Yijia again. “Don’t mind your brother. If you’re full, say you’re full. If not, then keep eating.”
Qiwen raised a hand to his forehead in headache. “Mom...”
“Mom, listen to Big Brother. Little Sister has just recovered, so it’s better for her to eat less.” Sang Qiwu had eaten quite a lot, and after saying only a couple of sentences he was already starting to burp.
Mother Sang hesitated. She worried about everything her children said, but what worried her most was that Yijia would not eat enough and then be hungry in the middle of the night.
“Mom, I’m fine.” Yijia patted her chest to assure her.
Only then did Mother Sang finally relax a little. “All right then.”
“Oh, right. Where’s Dad?” Yijia changed the subject. “Why hasn’t he come yet?”
“Your father still has things to take care of. He’ll probably be a while yet.”
“All right.” Yijia was full now, and soon after that she began to feel sleepy. She had clearly slept all afternoon, so she should not have been drowsy at this hour, but her eyelids were growing heavy, and in another moment she would not have been able to keep them open.
Qiwen could tell. He turned to look at Mother Sang and Sang Qiwu. “Mom, after we finish eating, we should head back too.”
“But your father hasn’t eaten yet.” Seeing her eldest son already tidying up the thermos containers on the table, Mother Sang went over to help.
Qiwu took the trash out and checked the bathroom bin as well. Once he confirmed it did not need changing, he lifted a bag of garbage. “Mom, Big Brother, I’m going to take out the trash.”
“Go ahead. We’ll meet downstairs in a bit.”
“Okay.” Qiwen had no objection.
While they were clearing the table, Yijia had already become drowsy enough to nod off.
Seeing this, Mother Sang and Qiwen exchanged a glance and smiled. Both of them unconsciously softened their movements and quietly left the hospital room.
“Your sister must be exhausted,” Mother Sang said. Otherwise, how could she have slept all afternoon and then, after eating, become sleepy again like this?
Mother Sang had been watching the livestream and knew how hard Yijia’s work was. Thinking of that, she frowned and let out a heavy sigh. “I’ve always thought the three of you did not need to become overly accomplished. It would be enough if you could live this one life well.”
“And yet the three of you have never once disappointed me or your father.” Whether it was university or anything else, the children’s achievements in work and career had always made Mother Sang and Sang Zheng proud.
“Mom, it’s getting late. When you see Dad later, you two should go home and get some proper rest. If there’s anything, come back tomorrow and talk about it then.” Qiwen did not want to continue the topic.
Mother Sang could tell, and said nothing more.
Just after Sang Zheng came upstairs, he saw Mother Sang and Qiwen already packed up and preparing to leave. He was immediately displeased, but after hearing Mother Sang say that Yijia had already fallen asleep, he may not have liked it, yet he still obediently followed them downstairs.
“Mom, Dad, I’m heading back first. You both should rest well.” Qiwen had arranged work while he was here, and he was absolutely not one to waste time.
Mother Sang knew this very well. She also knew that when her eldest son had come over, his assistant had booked a room at another hotel, and that everyone had simply rushed over after seeing the livestream, without any prior discussion.
“Go on, then. Make sure you rest, and don’t stay up too late.” Mother Sang watched Qiwen leave, then turned to look at her husband. Sang Zheng’s expression was no better.
“Whose phone call was that just now?”
“What was it about?” Although Mother Sang did not interfere with the family business, she still needed to know whatever was happening at home.
Sang Zheng shook his head. “Nothing much. I just saw in the livestream earlier that man named Shen Jin was looking at Jiajia in a way that was off, so I thought I’d give him a lesson.”
“Give him a lesson?” Mother Sang frowned, then seemed to think of something. “That child from the Lu family, I saw him today.”
Sang Zheng thought to himself that with such a tall man standing right there in front of them, it would have been impossible not to see him.
“And then?” Sang Zheng asked. “What do you want to say?”
Mother Sang answered with a soft sound of acknowledgment. Just then she saw that their second son had returned, so after a brief pause she went on, “I think that child from the Lu family is quite good.”
“Mom, Dad, are you talking about Lu Wenchuan?” Sang Qiwu asked.
Mother Sang nodded. “Yes, that’s him. Why?”
“Big Brother said that Lu Wenchuan has some feelings for Little Sister,” Qiwu replied. “Then tonight I asked him what he was thinking, and it’s true.”
“Wasn’t that obvious already?” As Sang Yijia’s father, Sang Zheng had paid special attention to Lu Wenchuan while watching the livestream, and from the very beginning he had seen Lu Wenchuan’s intentions toward his daughter.
Qiwu gave a chuckle. “Mom, Dad, I really had not thought of it before. I was thinking that no matter what, Little Sister is Lu Wenchuan’s lifesaver, so it would only be right for him to treat her well.”
“All right, the two of you stop overthinking it.” Mother Sang knew her husband had a lot of opinions about Lu Wenchuan, but this was not the time to lose his temper.
Then Mother Sang turned and looked seriously at Qiwu. “What do you think of Lu Wenchuan?”
“He’s pretty good,” Qiwu answered. Then something occurred to him and he added, “Mom, Dad, do you know what he said?”
“I asked Lu Wenchuan how he planned to treat Little Sister in the future, and he said he could marry into the family. That’s just too unbelievable.” Seeing the shock flash in his parents’ eyes, Qiwu grinned. “Wasn’t we thinking before that if someone married into the family, it would be hard to find the right person?”
“Now I think Lu Wenchuan is actually quite suitable.”
