Chapter 130: Missed Call
The segment director had not expected Sang Yijia to ask that question. After a brief pause, he answered, “No.”
“Because of Mr. Lu’s work, our production team won’t send a filming crew to his company, but we will record a segment of his daily life.” The director himself did not know the exact reason.
Sang Yijia understood. “All right, I see.”
“Thank you.”
The segment director shook his head. “No need to thank me.” This time, however, he began to blush.
For some reason, whenever he had seen news about Sang Yijia online before, he had always felt that she was shameless, a little foolish, and probably difficult to get along with.
But after spending time with her in person, he found that she was gentle and gracious, knew how to conduct herself, and never made anyone feel even the slightest discomfort.
How could someone like her have failed to win Shen Jin over?
The segment director could not figure it out.
Sang Yijia found Lu Wenchuan’s number in her contacts. After thinking it over, she dialed him anyway.
Mo Yani, watching from the side, was alarmed. If this scene were broadcast, how many viewers would seize the opportunity to vilify her?
But Sang Yijia had already made the call, and even if Mo Yani wanted to stop her, it was too late.
The ringback tone sounded again and again, but no one answered.
Sang Yijia waited patiently for a while. One minute passed, then two, yet there was still no answer.
Mo Yani was beginning to grow anxious. Could Lu Wenchuan have given them a fake number?
The call ended automatically.
Sang Yijia gave a small hum and looked up at the camera. “He seems to be busy. He didn’t answer.”
“How could that be?” Yan Ningsi emerged just then and happened to hear the remark. She immediately objected.
“Jiajia, call Brother Lu again. There’s no way he wouldn’t answer you.” Yan Ningsi urged her on.
Sang Yijia thought for a moment, then shook her head. “He’s probably genuinely busy.”
“All right, then.” Seeing how firm Sang Yijia was, Yan Ningsi did not press the matter. “Bian He said he’ll come pick us up later.”
“Then we’re going to the company to record a song.” Worried that Sang Yijia might be bored, Yan Ningsi added, “Bian He also said that Qingqing is filming an advertisement nearby, so she might come over later.”
After the program ended, Duan Yuqing and Bian He played several games together. When Yan Ningsi found out, she joined them for reasons known only to herself.
For the past few days, the three of them had been teaming up continuously.
“Jiajia, does it bother you?” Yan Ningsi studied Sang Yijia’s expression. She and Duan Yuqing had been high-school classmates and desk mates, so their relationship should have been the closest. But now Duan Yuqing seemed to have grown closer to Bian He, and Yan Ningsi wondered whether Sang Yijia might be jealous.
Sang Yijia was puzzled. “Why would it bother me?”

“Qingqing and I are good friends too.”
Yan Ningsi let out a breath of relief, awkwardly scratching the back of her head as she continued, “Just pretend I was talking nonsense.”
Sang Yijia scrutinized her for several moments, then nodded in understanding. “You don’t have to worry. What you’re imagining won’t happen.”
“…”
She had still been seen through, but Yan Ningsi was not upset.
—
Lu Wenchuan was in a meeting.
The meeting did not end until eleven in the morning.
When Lu Wenchuan returned to his office and checked his phone, he discovered that Sang Yijia had called sometime after nine.
His heart instantly began to pound. Afraid that he might have missed something, he quickly called her back.
The ringback tone kept circling in his ear.
Lu Wenchuan had never imagined that one day a ringback tone could be so irritating.
Fortunately, the call connected before long.
His heart tightened, and he immediately said, “Yijia, I’m sorry. I was in a meeting just now, and my phone was left in the office.”
“Mm, I know you’re busy.” Sang Yijia had not expected Lu Wenchuan to call at that moment.
Yan Ningsi’s game character had died. Because Sang Yijia was on the phone, her own character stood motionless and was then beaten to death by the entire enemy team.
“Which bastard is calling at a time like this?” Yan Ningsi glared in annoyance.
Sang Yijia looked at her and found her adorable. “It’s Lu Wenchuan.”
“Oh.” Yan Ningsi deflated. “Take your time talking.”
Duan Yuqing raised an eyebrow and looked over. All their teammates had already fallen, leaving her alone once again. Fortunately, they had managed to protect their crystal.
Still, it was difficult for one person to fight all five opponents, especially when the enemy’s top laner and support were both tank-type heroes.
Duan Yuqing cleared the minion wave, but the opposing team was willing to tank the tower’s attacks just to destroy the crystal.
The game ended.
Bian He let out a heavy sigh. He had played exceptionally well that round, and the marksman had carried the team so effectively that Bian He felt he was ready for professional competition.
“Another round?”
“Later.” Yan Ningsi pointed at Sang Yijia. “It’s Brother Lu calling.”
“Huh? When did that happen?” Bian He had been so focused on the game that he had not noticed anyone beside him answering a call.
Duan Yuqing habitually checked the match statistics. “When all of you died during the team fight.”

“…”
There had been no need to explain it in quite so much detail. Bian He turned his head toward the camera. “Brother Lu’s calling? Shall we have dinner together later?”
As it happened, Lu Wenchuan heard Bian He’s words. The corners of his lips lifted involuntarily. Although there were other people involved, this was the first time Sang Yijia had taken the initiative to invite him to dinner.
Lu Wenchuan was delighted.
“What would you like to eat?” Lu Wenchuan turned toward the view outside the floor-to-ceiling windows. Skyscrapers rose everywhere, but the building he occupied was one of a kind. From his office, he could look down upon the entire city.
Sang Yijia hummed and looked at her friends. “What would you like to eat?”
“How about hot pot?” Yan Ningsi asked tentatively.
“Forget it. You still have to sing.” Bian He stopped her in time. “Don’t use hot pot as an excuse to indulge yourself.”
As he spoke, Bian He turned to Sang Yijia. “Let’s have something lighter.”
“Then let’s have Cantonese food,” Sang Yijia replied.
Lu Wenchuan agreed readily. “I’ll make a reservation for lunch. I’ll come pick you up later.”
“No need. I’ll go with them,” Sang Yijia refused.
Lu Wenchuan could only agree, though there would be another chance next time.
After the call ended, Sang Yijia noticed that all three of them were looking at her. The corners of her lips curved slightly. “What is it?”
“I told you Brother Lu treats you differently.” Yan Ningsi spoke with great significance. “I noticed it on the very first day of filming.”
“So did I.” Thinking back, Bian He genuinely felt that there had been something unusual. The more he thought about it, the more interesting it seemed to savor every detail.
“Lu Wenchuan?” As Sang Yijia’s desk mate during high school, Duan Yuqing knew quite a bit about her three years there, though not everything. “I remember that Lu wasn’t among the people who pursued you back then.”
Yan Ningsi silently added in her heart: Of course he wasn’t.
At that time, Lu Wenchuan had probably already gone abroad to study.
But Yan Ningsi could not say that aloud.
“Wait, how many people pursued Yijia before?” Bian He seemed to have found an even more fascinating topic. After asking, he cast a flirtatious look at the camera, as though saying, See how good I am at finding things to talk about?
