Chapter 135: He Said It Wasn't Necessary
“The green environment is very nice.” Sang Yijia returned to the reception area and sat down. The sofa was soft and comfortable, and on the coffee table before her lay a beautiful tea set.
Sang Yijia wasn’t very familiar with such things and cast a couple of extra glances.
“It’s warm.” Lu Wenchuan placed a mug on the coffee table. “The cup is newly bought, never used before.”
“Thank you.” Sang Yijia held the mug, took a few sips, then looked up at Lu Wenchuan, her dark eyes shining brightly.
Lu Wenchuan felt his heart skip a beat but nonchalantly diverted his gaze. “It might get a bit boring here.”
“No, it’s very quiet,” Sang Yijia shook her head. Then she noticed a hidden door and casually pointed at it. “Is that the lounge?”
Lu Wenchuan followed her finger and nodded. “Usually, when I’m tired from work, I rest in there for a while.”
“Shall we take a look?” Lu Wenchuan asked.
Sang Yijia blinked. “Seems a bit inappropriate.”
“Don’t worry.” Lu Wenchuan extended his hand toward her. “This counts as us getting to know each other.”
After a moment’s thought, Sang Yijia found his words reasonable and placed her hand in his palm, following him inside.
Outside the office door, the assistant and secretaries surrounded the chief assistant, chattering incessantly.
The chief secretary glanced calmly but did not stop them; she was also curious about what was going on.
“Ahem.” The chief assistant cleared his throat and looked at the female secretary. “Shuang’er, prepare a key card later—one for the president’s exclusive use.”
“The cardholder should be green and a bit feminine,” he added. Though he didn’t yet know Sang Yijia’s style, since she was a woman, it naturally should be a cute one.
Then he recalled the little black cat seen during the livestream and added, “Preferably something related to a kitten.”
Cheng Shuang promptly gave an OK sign. “Don’t worry, leave it to me.”
“Before Miss Sang leaves, I’ll have everything prepared.”
Secretary Zuo Fei peeked at the chief secretary and smiled softly, asking the chief assistant, “Is Miss Sang the future big boss’s wife?”
“Ahem, these are the president’s private matters, so don’t speculate,” the chief assistant said without denying or confirming, indifferent to others’ thoughts.
“Oh, Zuo Fei, tell the front desk downstairs that Miss Sang no longer needs to register when she comes. Just send someone to the office to wait,” Lu Wenchuan had just instructed this, and the chief assistant was relaying the message.
“Don’t pry into anything else,” the chief assistant glanced toward the chief secretary’s seat. “Li Siyu, that Lamborghini belongs to Miss Sang. That spot will be her exclusive parking space.”
Li Siyu paused, then slowly looked up and replied, “Understood.”
“I will inform the driver.”
“No need. I’ve already told the driver,” the chief assistant adjusted his glasses slipping down his nose. “Nothing else—everyone, focus on your work.”
---
“Yes, ma’am.” The three ladies quickly returned to their posts.
Meanwhile, the assistant team who hadn’t yet started asking questions messaged the chief assistant in their private group.
“Did the president make a move?”
“Are you sure it’s really Sang Yijia?”
“Wasn’t she always interested in Shen Jin before?”
The chief assistant frowned as he read the messages and replied:
“Let’s care less about the president’s affairs.”
“Have you finished your work?”
“What about the project in City A?”
“If it’s done, why hasn’t it been sent over?”
Before the chief assistant could continue questioning, silence fell over the group. Everyone began focusing on their tasks.
—
Lu Wenchuan’s lounge was simple but maximized the green theme. The bedding was light green, and a small bouquet of daisies sat in the corner.
“You like this?” Sang Yijia was surprised, pointing at the daisies. “Not what I expected.”
Lu Wenchuan cleared his throat and answered awkwardly, “It looks comfortable.”
“Hahaha, it really is.” Sang Yijia laughed, then turned to look at him. “I thought presidents preferred a cold, minimalist style.”
“Usually black or dark gray,” Lu Wenchuan mused. “But presidents are human too, and they have favorite colors.”
“White, yellow, black, red—everyone has their own favorite color.” He opened the wardrobe for her to see. “But you were right about one thing.”
“My suits are basically all black,” he said.
Sang Yijia tilted her head, thinking. “Next time, should I bring you to my place to see where I live?”
“Your office environment is enough,” Lu Wenchuan replied.
“My home is my work environment,” Sang Yijia explained.
“And you’ve seen my work environment before,” she added, referring to the dating show.
Lu Wenchuan closed the wardrobe door and walked toward the window. “You can see the city night view from here.”
“Is it beautiful?” Sang Yijia came over and stood beside him.
Outside, the sunlight was bright, with blue skies and white clouds.
The entire city seemed vibrant under the sunlight’s warmth.
Sang Yijia imagined how dazzling the lights must be at night.
“It’s not pretty,” Lu Wenchuan shook his head. “This area is mostly office buildings. After nine p.m., it’s almost pitch black, except for a few floors here and there where people are working late.”
“What about here?” Sang Yijia asked. “Do you make your employees work overtime too?”
“It’s unavoidable,” Lu Wenchuan answered. “That’s the trend.”
Sang Yijia said nothing.
At two in the afternoon, the workday was about to start.
Not wanting to disturb Lu Wenchuan’s work, Sang Yijia suggested leaving. Lu Wenchuan escorted her downstairs and watched her get into the car before turning back.
Lu Wenchuan’s regard for Sang Yijia surprised everyone but was also understandable.
Meanwhile, the entire Lu Group spent the afternoon debating whether Sang Yijia was truly the future president’s wife.
The chief secretary, exasperated by the chat group’s chatter, finally copied the conversation and sent it to Lu Wenchuan.
“President Lu, do you want to clarify this matter?”
For the past two years, whenever rumors about Lu Wenchuan surfaced, the chief secretary was the one handling them.
This time, Li Siyu stared at the chat window on her computer, longing to see Lu Wenchuan respond affirmatively.
But after waiting ten minutes, he finally replied.
He said no.
No.
Not even a maybe—just no.
Li Siyu smiled and typed stiffly on the keyboard, quickly sending a message.
Then she checked another group where others were still discussing. Some said Sang Yijia was beautiful, others that the president and Sang Yijia had feelings for each other on the show, and some said…
Li Siyu no longer read on. She closed the group chat and returned to work.
