Chapter 149: Again!
Next came Bian He, but seeing that Lan Qing had not yet made her choice, he offered a polite gesture: "Lan Qing, you haven't chosen yet. You go first."
"Thank you," Lan Qing said. She reached out for the nearest slip of paper, but another hand reached for it at the same time. Their hands brushed against each other, and Xu Wei immediately pulled back.
Lan Qing paid it no mind and continued to select a slip she favored. She opened it, glanced at it, and her pupils suddenly constricted.
Xu Wei, unfazed, picked up another slip and opened it. "I got a capital B."
"What's wrong?" Bian He noticed the change in Lan Qing's expression. At the same time, he picked up the last slip and opened it casually. "It's a lowercase c."
"Ah, I don't want to be paired with you!" Shen Jing immediately put the paper ball back. "Next round, let's do the next round."
Lan Qing’s face turned somewhat pale. "I am a capital D."
The slips were placed on the table for everyone to see.
Shen Jin’s expression also shifted. His mouth twitched; he wanted to smile but couldn't, his entire face stiffening.
"You two really have quite the fate," Yan Ningsi remarked, unsure of what else to say.
"Jiajia, what did you get?" Yan Ningsi hadn't opened her own slip yet. She knew without thinking that it couldn't possibly be Bian He, but she also didn't want to be paired with Lu Wenchuan. Right now, she just hoped Sang Yijia would end up with him.
"I am a capital A." Sang Yijia unfolded her slip, ignoring the others and looking only at Lu Wenchuan. "What about you?"
"Lowercase a." Lu Wenchuan unfolded his. The pair of letters sat together, perfectly matched and exceptionally harmonious.
"Then I must be b." Yan Ningsi opened hers to find she was paired with Xu Wei.
Seeing that two pairs had already formed and that the next would inevitably be either Xu Wei or Yan Ningsi, Shen Jing lost interest. "Shall we play rock-paper-scissors?"
"Rock-paper-scissors to see who matches with whom?"
Director Chen, watching from the sidelines, felt incredibly frustrated. He had already planned everything out; why did they have to cause such a scene? Moreover, every one of them was a big name with a background not to be trifled with. The guests were ruining a perfectly good show.
Director Chen was on the verge of tears.
"No," Yan Ningsi refused, gathering the remaining slips. "Let’s do it again."
"There must be a time it works!" Yan Ningsi refused to give up.
Bian He also wanted to see how many tries it would take to get paired with Yan Ningsi. "Come on, come on, don't be shy."
Shen Jing and Xu Wei: "..."
This wasn't a matter of being shy. But seeing their determination, Shen Jing glanced at Xu Wei, and seeing that she had no objections, he had no choice but to comply.
Meanwhile, Shen Jin looked at his slip, then at Lan Qing’s, and smiled. "Our fate is truly not shallow."
They had been paired together on the very first draw. Shen Jin sent a message to Lan Qing on WeChat.
Lan Qing read the message and let out a scoff. She tapped her fingers, then looked up at Shen Jin. If it weren't for this idiot, things wouldn't have to be this way.
The program had hit a snag, and Lan Qing could not accept this result. She went to find her agent, Jian Hong. Fortunately, it wasn't a live broadcast but a recording; at worst, they could cut this segment. Then, following their previous agreement, she could be paired with Shen Jing—perhaps she could even end up with the young master of the Shen family.
Then she wouldn't have to keep accompanying that "President Huang." At the thought of that old man, Lan Qing suddenly felt nauseous and disgusted.
On the other side, Lu Wenchuan kept his eyes on his slip, a faint smile lingering on his lips. "Jiajia."
"Hmm?" Only now did Sang Yijia discover this other side of Lu Wenchuan, and as she looked at him from the side, she found him surprisingly cute.
Sang Yijia licked her lips. "We're recording."
"Control yourself."
Lu Wenchuan coughed lightly, his expression returning to normal, though he couldn't help but pick up the slip again.
"What are you doing?" Sang Yijia raised an eyebrow, catching his hand.
Lu Wenchuan’s attention was entirely on her hand. "I want to go back and take a picture."
"You want to go public?" The show was still filming; by the time it finished recording, was edited, and aired, some time would have passed. Sang Yijia thought that in that time, her family might be able to accept Lu Wenchuan.
"Is that not allowed?" Lu Wenchuan released her hand and put the slip back, realizing the situation with the Sang family.
"Jiajia, if I said I wanted to marry into your family, would you be willing?" Lu Wenchuan asked.
"????" What kind of jarring topic jump was that? Sang Yijia was stunned. "Everything is fine, why would you say that?"
Sang Yijia frowned. "If you want us to have children in the future..." She paused. Was it too early to talk about children?
Sang Yijia didn't dare look at Lu Wenchuan. As she averted her gaze, she felt her earlobes burning, as if they had been deep-fried—hot, tingling, and swelling with warmth in her heart.
Lu Wenchuan clearly hadn't expected her to mention children. After a second of shock, his heart felt like it had burst into bloom.
"Let's talk about that later; it's not certain yet." Sang Yijia took a deep breath and closed her eyes, thinking to herself that it was fortunate her long hair covered her ears, otherwise they would have been seen.
"Okay." Lu Wenchuan knew it was too early to discuss children, but... "I think one boy and one girl would be quite nice."
"..." Sang Yijia chose not to answer.
"But the most important thing is your personal wish." Compared to children, Lu Wenchuan preferred to spend time alone with her. "If you want children, we'll have them; if you don't, we won't."
Sang Yijia glanced at him. "You really are headstrong."
"Having you is enough for me," Lu Wenchuan whispered, leaning close to her ear.
The intimate gesture made those beside them feel sour.
"Can you two please look at us single people?" Shen Jing couldn't take it anymore. He had been paired with Bian He twice in a row. He was starting to suspect that Bian He was his fated partner.
Bian He, having failed to pair with Yan Ningsi twice, had a gloomy expression.
"Maybe we should just stop," Xu Wei said, not daring to speak much in front of the big shots, but knowing that if this continued, Shen Jing and Bian He might explode.
Yan Ningsi slammed her hand down. "No, we must continue." She didn't believe it.
"If it doesn't work this time, Xu Wei, you'll be my girlfriend from now on, but I’m going to be the top!" Yan Ningsi declared ambitiously.
Xu Wei: "..." Can't I just find a boyfriend?
"Then I want to be the top, too," Shen Jing protested.
Bian He: "..."
Sang Yijia couldn't help but laugh. Lu Wenchuan glanced over; he didn't want to stay anymore and wanted to go for a walk outside with her.
"Are you all still playing?"
"Must," Yan Ningsi replied.
"Then you carry on; Jiajia and I are heading back." When Lu Wenchuan wanted to leave, no one could stop him.
Sang Yijia still wanted to see the final outcome. "Let's watch a little longer, okay?"
"Okay," Lu Wenchuan agreed without hesitation.
Shen Jin watched, feeling sour, and gave a cold laugh. "You guys stay; I'm heading back."
"Me too." Lan Qing needed to go back and discuss tomorrow's matters with her agent. "Have fun, everyone."
