Chapter Seventy-Eight: The Lunchtime Game Begins
Sang Yijia listened to their conversation and couldn’t help but clear her throat softly. “Has the game started yet?”
“It has, it has.” Bian He tapped the matchmaking button, feeling a bit grateful that Sang Yijia had shifted the topic just then.
“In this game mode, you can’t freely choose your hero,” Duan Yuqing said, noticing Bian He had selected the Dream Chaos mode. She continued, “You need diamonds to spin for heroes.”
“If you want a certain hero later, just let me know. I’ll swap them for you.” Duan Yuqing glanced at Sang Yijia’s game character; the names were all randomly generated, nothing special.
“I have quite a lot of diamonds.” This account was her alternate; her main gaming account had been reclaimed by her company.
The name was casually chosen, and PE’s Wild could no longer be used.
Duan Yuqing pressed her lips together and suddenly spoke, “Wild won’t be usable anymore. You should just call me by my real name.”
Sang Yijia raised her eyebrows. When they first introduced themselves, Duan Yuqing had said she didn’t want to use her real name. “Do you have any other names in mind?”
“Not yet,” Duan Yuqing replied, then asked, “Do you have any suggestions?”
“I’ll do it, I’ll do it!” Yan Ningsi excitedly raised her hand, and just then, the game entered the hero selection room.
As Sang Yijia was pondering which hero to play, she glanced down and saw that the hero she had wanted from the start—Wu Zetian—was available. It didn’t have a skin, but still looked great.
Yan Ningsi saw it and exclaimed, “Wow!”
“Yijia’s luck is really good. Heroes you haven’t purchased aren’t so easy to get,” Bian He said, giving a thumbs-up, though no one could see him.
Yan Ningsi was playing in her own room, and Bian He in his.
“Is that so?” Sang Yijia blinked, but decided not to change heroes.
Duan Yuqing considered, “This hero isn’t very suitable for beginners.”
“The timing of the ultimate is crucial, and its cooldown is quite long at the start.”
Ordinary mage heroes have ultimates with a cooldown of about thirty seconds at level four, but Wu Zetian and a few others have ultimates that last a minute.
That doesn’t bode well for early development.
“It’s fine, I just want to try it.” Sang Yijia had a good attitude; games are for entertainment, and if that isn’t possible, then it’s not really a game.
Duan Yuqing said no more. She was contemplating a new name—Wild was no longer an option, but after years of using it, she found it hard to let go.
Thirty seconds passed, and the game began.
On Lu Wenchuan’s side, the game download had finished, but naming proved difficult.
The game started, and Duan Yuqing forgot to remind them that in this mode, you can’t return to the spawn point to heal wounds or buy items.
Actually, the game gives reminders after starting, and Sang Yijia and Yan Ningsi were both reading them carefully.
“These rules are pretty odd, but it’s fine.” Yan Ningsi glanced at them, unconcerned, and set off with her Zhuang Zhou.
“Heh, riding a Kun is quite amusing.” Yan Ningsi had bought a fully leveled account with several skins to choose from, and she picked the one she thought was coolest—High Mountains, Flowing Water.
A boy with an ancient style.
Yan Ningsi loved it.
“He looks so refined, really handsome.”
Bian He rubbed his chin, wondering, did he not have a scholarly aura?
Once Duan Yuqing entered the game, her whole demeanor changed—focused and intense. She controlled her little tiger, quickly secured First Blood, and severely wounded the remaining four opponents.
Sang Yijia and the others, who hadn’t done much yet, were stunned.
“Oh my god,” Bian He murmured.
Yan Ningsi was even more ecstatic. “Ahhh, she really is my goddess!”
“So cool!”
These exclamations echoed around them, but none of it affected Duan Yuqing’s gameplay.
Sang Yijia wasn’t very familiar with the game, but gradually explored and, after using several abilities, began to understand how to coordinate.
In less than ten minutes—just six minutes had passed—Duan Yuqing’s little tiger led her team to destroy the enemy crystal.
“That was fast.” Bian He rarely played such an effortless game, and as the victory sound rang in his ears, he wiped his nose. “Let’s go again!”
He was fired up!
“I’ll see if Lu Wenchuan is ready.” Sang Yijia hadn’t forgotten about him. “Wait for me.”
“Alright,” Yan Ningsi replied cheerfully.
Duan Yuqing checked the time and reckoned they could play two more rounds, since they needed to finish all the novice tutorials.
Sure enough, Sang Yijia returned; Lu Wenchuan wasn’t ready yet—they’d have to wait a bit longer.
“Then let’s play a while longer,” Duan Yuqing said.
Both Yan Ningsi and Bian He agreed, and naturally, Sang Yijia had no objections.
But with Duan Yuqing present, both games were over quickly.
Sang Yijia glanced at the clock, thinking Lu Wenchuan should be ready, exited the game, and prepared to find him. His WeChat message came through.
“My game ID is Reed Ash.”
To help Sang Yijia enter the first character, Lu Wenchuan even annotated the spelling.
Seeing his message, Sang Yijia couldn’t help but smile; she recognized the character and knew it was a shade of green—a color she liked.
“Lu Wenchuan is ready—wait, I’ll add him as a friend.” After replying to Lu Wenchuan, Sang Yijia returned to the game room and checked the time again—it was already half past one.
“Let’s play a bit more, and then take a ten-minute break.” Sang Yijia went to add a friend, but the character Reed wasn’t easy to find.
She searched for quite a while before finally locating it.
After adding the friend, Sang Yijia noticed that Lu Wenchuan’s avatar was the color Reed Ash.
Lu Wenchuan joined, saw the four of them at a glance, and quickly identified which account was Sang Yijia’s. But when he saw the game nickname, his brows rose slightly, “Reckless Youth?”
After Reckless Youth, there was a string of symbols Lu Wenchuan couldn’t decipher.
“Randomly generated,” Sang Yijia explained. She had wanted to change the name, but a name change card actually cost nine yuan!
Without a second thought, Sang Yijia gave up.
“This account dates back to high school,” she explained, then looked at Lu Wenchuan’s nickname and asked, “How did you come up with your name?”
Lu Wenchuan paused for a moment. “All the names I thought of were already taken, so I tried using a character with more strokes.”
“And it worked.”
Bian He and Yan Ningsi: “……”
Duan Yuqing coughed, “There really are a lot of people playing this game.”
“Let’s switch to 5V5 now. This mode takes longer, and will help you get a better grasp of the game.” Duan Yuqing shifted the topic, then thought of something. “Who’s playing support?”
Yan Ningsi replied first, “Me!”
“I want to follow you!”
“Goddess!”
