Chapter 124: Can You Still Fall to Your Death on Your Own?
Two vampires were flying at high speed through the sky.
Their vision operated as a composite of a colorful spectrum and thermal imaging, scanning every inch of the mountain ranges below like a sophisticated high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft. They were responsible for the patrol and sweep of Liangzhou. If they discovered any terrestrial Abominations, they would contact nearby companions to swarm and eliminate them as quickly as possible.
Before Wu You had finished absorbing the carcasses of several Abominations and departed earlier, they had successfully liquidated three more of those bear-like creatures. The combat power of such monsters was approximately high-Bronze tier; while they possessed immense strength, their lack of agility made them easy prey for the vampires. However, it had become apparent that these creatures might possess some sort of hibernation mechanism. They only emerged at specific times, and perhaps the Blood Serpents were the same. One Abomination had been revealed only after a landslide triggered by a heavy rainstorm, where it was swiftly executed by a passing vampire.
The sun was about to set. The two vampires had not been out long; night was their primary time for searching. It wasn't that they feared being discovered—in this world, what did it matter if they were seen? It was simply a biological trait; while they did not fear sunlight, they did not care for it. Furthermore, the previous encounters with terrestrial Abominations had all occurred at night.
The sunset’s afterglow still lingered on the horizon, and that satellite of the Eastern Realm, which was significantly larger than the Moon, had already manifested in the starry sky. At this moment, the vampires’ attention was focused primarily below. At an altitude of 500 meters, they were not only observing infrared images through their thermal organs but also using wavelength echolocation to map the mountain forests and wilderness. Their sense of smell was keen enough to detect the faint, metallic tang of blood from over ten kilometers away.
"Xivi, do you feel something off?" one of the vampires asked his companion, who was about ten meters away, with a note of confusion.
The vampire called Xivi twitched his nose, sniffing the air. "I do feel something off. I sense a trace of something repulsive—it isn't strong, but it doesn't originate from my sense of smell or sight. I cannot pinpoint the direction."
"Yes, I feel the same. Perhaps it isn't a sensory perception, but intuition!"
His companion was a rare female vampire. Beneath her lithe and striking appearance, her combat prowess was in no way inferior to the males, and perhaps due to the remnants of her human material, she was very willing to trust her intuition. This approach to searching had proven highly effective. Since her companion also sensed something wrong, the intuitive warning could not be false.
The two vampires began to descend. Upon reaching the ground, the sensation did not intensify; rather, it showed signs of fading. Xivi frowned and exchanged a look with the female vampire.
"Shall we try flying higher?"
Seconds later, two black shadows accelerated into the sky, merging into the bright moonlight that was gradually replacing the dusk. As they climbed past 5,000 meters, the sensation became slightly more distinct.
"Could it be in the high altitude? Or beyond the atmosphere?"
They flew until they reached an altitude of over 10,000 meters before stopping. They were nearing their flight ceiling. The night sky was clear, devoid of clouds, and with their vision, they could discern minute details. The two vampires occasionally flapped their wings to maintain a vertical hovering position, their gazes fixed toward the moon. Their expressions grew increasingly solemn.
After holding their position for five minutes, several thin streaks cut across a corner of the bright moonlight, emitting an orange glow as they frictionally heated against the atmosphere. These were meteors, but they were more than just meteors.
The female vampire and Xivi both opened their mouths, aiming toward a direction diagonally below. They emitted ultrasonic waves that only their own kind could comprehend.

Two female vampires were busy cleaning the house upstairs and downstairs. Zhang Guihua had just sent a text message reminding Wu You to keep the home tidy. Wu You himself was clutching a large ceramic bowl filled with fresh durian, watching the latest episode of an anime with great relish. Occasionally, he would refresh the comment section of *Mysterious Tales* to see if there were any bizarre new remarks. On the screen, the bald man who could defeat any monster with a single punch was particularly eye-catching, making Wu You wonder how incredibly powerful he would be if he were used as material.
Just as he was about to click on the next episode, his heart skipped a beat. In the system, one of the three special light points he had been monitoring had vanished. He immediately set down the bowl of durian and vanished from the room.
He reappeared at his private residence in Leping City. This time, Wang Fugui and several other humanoid alchemical creatures were already waiting in the courtyard. As soon as Wu You appeared, they stepped forward.
"Master, the Abominations may be extraterrestrial organisms. A large swarm of meteors carrying them has appeared west of Liangzhou."
With that brief sentence, Wu You understood the situation. "What are the numbers? Have you engaged them?"
A tall vampire stepped forward to answer. "The first batch of meteors appeared an hour after dusk last night, numbering about 60. Liangzhou is our primary search zone, and there are 22 vampires stationed there, so they were able to investigate immediately."
"Of the 60 meteors, the Abominations inside 22 of them died upon impact. The rest have all been eliminated. No Silver-tier organisms were discovered."
Wu You’s eyelid twitched. "And our casualties?"
"Aside from one vampire with a broken wing, the others suffered only minor injuries."
Wu You was slightly surprised. "They’re that weak?"
Twenty-two of them had "died from falling." Frankly, upon hearing the news of an Abomination invasion, he had never imagined that would be a cause of death. And even if the remaining ones were all wounded, 38 against 22 was a total slaughter.
Wang Fugui addressed Wu You’s confusion. "Reporting to the Master, among the 60 meteors, the highest energy reading detected from the Abominations was high-Bronze tier, but there were fewer than 10 of those. The twenty-plus that died from the impact were likely only Black-Iron tier."
Wu You nodded. In any case, the original Abominations must have originated from outer space, not from some Blood Serpent transforming into a dragon.
This was a bit of a headache. Was an alien force launching a full-scale invasion of the Eastern Realm? Those 60 couldn't possibly be the total; would the Eastern Realm turn into a monster paradise?
*Damn! Doesn't this play right into my hands?*
He had been fretting over a lack of sufficient Transcendence energy materials and alchemical energy. He would slaughter them as they arrived, and if he couldn't win, he would run. Based on the current situation, they had to arrive via meteors, so they likely didn't possess spatial teleportation.
Wu You looked up at the sky, as if peering into the space beyond his sight. There, an unknown number of meteors were hurtling toward this planet. A curve formed at the corner of his mouth.
*Besides, who said I have to sit here and wait for you to land?*
*Hmm, should I notify the imperial court about this?*
