Chapter 125: The Ambush in the Outer Atmosphere
It was still the Liu family’s reception hall.
The people of the Liu family were still the same, and Evil Daoist was still the same Evil Daoist.
Yet the respect with which the Liu family treated him had risen by more than a single level.
To a great extent, this was related to what they had witnessed in Nine-Furnace City the last time.
Not much time had passed since the “Immortal Slaying the Dragon.” Some forces in extremely remote regions, lacking both information and the means to obtain it, had only just received the news.
The Liu family was still reeling from the shock. They had also indirectly confirmed that Evil Daoist knew the Immortal, which made them feel that they possessed a certain advantage.
When something abnormal happened, there was surely a cause behind it. The successive appearances of Blood Flood Dragons and other monsters had already prompted many far-sighted major powers to make preparations before disaster struck.
And this time, Evil Daoist’s arrival had been simple and violent: he had flown straight in from beyond the heavens.
The entire family had been thrown into an uproar.
In the reception hall, the maid who had served the tea had just withdrawn.
“Immortal Elder, may I ask whether you have some important business in coming to the Wu family this time?”
Liu Xianyuan had no time to draw upon the composure he had cultivated over many years. He asked Evil Daoist’s purpose directly.
“What? If I have no important business, I’m not allowed to drop by for a visit?”
Wu You teased him.
“Of course not, of course not…”
At that moment, Liu Xianyuan felt like he was a young man once more, being questioned by the family head. He was terribly nervous.
Part of it was because he took the matter seriously. The other part was because Wu You was deliberately exerting a mental influence on him.
“All right, I won’t toy with you any longer. I came here simply to tell you that the earth may soon face a great calamity. Inform the various factions and have them make preparations as early as possible.”
“If you have any strength to spare, helping shield even a portion of the common people would also be a boundless merit.”
With that, Evil Daoist lifted his teacup and drained more than half of the scalding tea in a single gulp. Then he walked out of the reception hall himself. In just a few steps, he had already taken flight.
Before long, he vanished beyond the horizon.
These martial arts experts were not actually as weak as one might imagine. At the very least, had Little Black not been careless back then, he would not have been a match for the Green Luo Hand.
The Little Sky Hound was an advanced Black-Iron creature, while the Green Luo Hand could at most be considered a quasi-first-rate expert.
This world still possessed even more powerful martial artists, ranging from acquired first-rate experts to innate masters, and even the supreme grandmasters who stood beyond them.
Wang Fugui was also gathering information on these people.
At present, aside from certain obvious shortcomings—such as being unable to take to the skies or enter the water—they lacked a few special offensive techniques, and their attack power was somewhat insufficient.
Even so, the foremost figures in the martial world still possessed actual combat strength equivalent to that of early Bronze-level creatures or higher.
With these people working alongside experts of somewhat lesser ability, and with the military’s battle formations, they might not be unable to protect themselves against the possible tide of Sinspawn.
There were also countless ordinary civilians in this otherworld. To some extent, these native powers would protect the people within their spheres of influence, according to their abilities.
When the time came, Wu You would also prioritize eliminating any Sinspawn approaching densely populated areas.
At present, this was the safest and most feasible course of action.
However, his alchemical creatures were limited in number. If the Sinspawn overwhelmed them in sheer numbers while their quality remained high, he would have no choice but to adopt guerrilla tactics. At most, he might have enough strength to protect Leping City.
…
High in the atmosphere above the Eastern Domain, at least sixty or seventy kilometers above the ground, an enormous creature twisted its body from time to time, swimming through the distant heights as though moving through water.
Looking down from above, the land below appeared as a round horizon streaked with yellow-green and blue. The ocean occupied a considerable portion of the planet as well.
It was a rather beautiful world. Had scientists from certain research organizations on Earth seen it, they would probably have declared it a habitable planet for colonization in a frenzy of delight.
The air was thin and the environment harsh. It exerted a considerable influence on Bronze-level creatures, but for Silver-level beings, it was hardly worth mentioning.
Two “little specks” stood upon the immense, broad back of the Kun.
They were the Silver-level creatures Lion-Faced Vajra and the Primordial Demon.
Aside from the two of them, the Kun’s back was densely covered with countless stones the size of small automobiles.
These were no ordinary stones, but iron-rich ore obtained from an open-pit mine in the mountains.
At that moment, Wu You was seated in a private room on the top floor of the Drunken Immortal Pavilion. The finely carved redwood table was covered with all kinds of pastries and snacks, as well as a basin of popcorn braised by the head chef in a dry pot.
Since no cameraman had accompanied them into the sky, numerous cameras had been secured to the Kun’s back at various angles.
“Friend, it’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Saraso.”
The Primordial Demon intended to become better acquainted with Garuru. Smiling, he greeted the imposing lion-headed humanoid monster beside him.
Garuru merely glanced at him and gave no other response.
“Hahaha… Look at me and my memory. You can’t speak, can you? Then use mental waves. At such close range, you should be able to convey your meaning quite clearly.”
Saraso’s answer was a vicious, tooth-baring growl.
The lion’s mane showed signs of rising.
The Primordial Demon, who had been laughing a moment earlier, promptly shut his mouth and turned away, staring straight ahead as though the entire incident had been nothing more than an illusion.
“Hiss—”
A gigantic shadow shrieked through the air ahead, tearing through the already thin atmosphere.
The thrower’s tremendous strength sent the stone flying straight forward without the slightest sign of descent.
After flying for some time, the massive stone began to glow red from friction with the air. In the end, it vanished toward the edge of their vision.
“Clap, clap, clap, clap…”
Applause rang out.
“Wow, now that’s some arm strength, friend.”
The moment the words left his mouth, a brilliant flash erupted in the distance. The stone Garuru had thrown had struck a meteorite that had only just entered the atmosphere, almost beyond the range of sight.
“Uh…”
Saraso lowered his hands and narrowed his eyes toward the distant sky, where sparks were still scattering. The shattered meteorite and fragments of iron ore fell toward the ground as countless pieces of debris, trailing strings of miniature meteor showers.
Wu You issued an order to his three Silver-level creatures through their mental link.
“Stop showing off. They’re here. Nether North, move toward the direction Garuru just hit.”
A cluster of meteorites had already drawn close to the atmosphere there.
It had to be said that although Wu You was in the city below, his perception was actually more sensitive than that of the Silver-level creatures far above in the sky.
Through the sensation of revulsion carried by his perception, he could distinguish at least several hundred meteorites.
What displeased him was that some of them seemed to carry high-level energy signatures.
The Kun was enormous, yet its speed was nothing like the clumsy bulk of its appearance suggested. After beating its tail only a few times, it was already surging forward at high speed.
At the same time, Garuru and Saraso on its back did not remain idle simply because of the distance.
The sound of their muscles tightening exploded like the roar of enormous steel cables being twisted.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
…
Their arms nearly blurred into afterimages. With efficiency utterly disproportionate to the number of hands they possessed, the two of them launched dozens of enormous chunks of iron-rich ore in an instant.
The meteorites approached the atmosphere from afar, carving fiery red diagonal lines across the sky.
The numerous chunks of ore also glowed red as they raced toward the meteorites.
The trajectories of the two sides increasingly resembled a sideways letter V.
Several dozen seconds later, countless bursts of sparks flashed repeatedly through the upper atmosphere.
