Chapter Forty-Eight: The Demonic God’s Uncanny Power
“Dear passengers, greetings. The aircraft has now entered stable cruising altitude. You may unfasten your seatbelts and stretch a bit, but please do not leave your seat.”
“We have prepared exquisite meals and delicious ice cream for you. Our cabin crew will soon serve you. Thank you for flying with Kunhang Airlines, and we wish you a pleasant journey!”
The chief attendant set down the intercom and exhaled gently, marking the end of this flight. Once she returned to Kuncheng, her vacation would finally begin.
It had been so long since she'd taken her adorable son to the amusement park.
Wu You watched the flight attendants listlessly as they pushed the meal carts through the cabin, distributing food and drinks. Yet his mind was busy pondering which creatures he should refine in alchemy before the system upgrade.
Truth be told, the mythical beasts from the Classic of Mountains and Seas were all excellent choices. However, he was torn—so many of the extraordinary beings he favored had human faces with the bodies of something else. Human faces with various bodies.
He couldn’t very well use actual humans as material, even if the system seemed to place no restrictions on that. He wasn’t so depraved as to cross that line.
“Sir, may I ask what drink you’d like?” The attendant’s question pulled Wu You from his thoughts.
“I’ll have a glass of orange juice, please.”
“Certainly, please wait a moment.”
She took a disposable cup, poured the juice, and handed it to Wu You.
Just as Wu You reached out to take the cup—
Bang, bang, bang...
The aircraft suddenly shuddered violently.
The orange juice splashed everywhere, drenching Wu You.
For a moment, panic swept through the cabin, then the plane steadied again.
The attendant apologized to Wu You repeatedly, but before she finished, the intercom sounded once more.
“Dear passengers, the aircraft has encountered turbulence during flight. Please fasten your seatbelts and refrain from moving about. Thank you for your cooperation.”
The announcement hadn’t even ended—
The plane began shaking far more violently than before.
The entire cabin was filled with loud, rhythmic thuds.
Passengers’ anxious cries rose in tandem.
The attendant, no longer concerned with apologizing, joined another colleague in laboriously securing the meal cart and locking it into place.
They hurried to the crew area, fastened their seatbelts, and sat down.
The aircraft shook as though it were being sifted mercilessly.
The cabin was filled with abrupt, pronounced bangs.
Passengers’ murmurs of unease quickly escalated to shrill screams.
“Dear passengers, this is your captain. The turbulence we’re experiencing is unusually strong, but please do not pan—”
The captain barely finished his sentence—
A tremendous boom shook the cabin.
The entire plane lurched violently from side to side.
“Ah~~~” A woman’s high-pitched scream pierced the air, making everyone want to cover their ears.
“Mama, mama, wuwuwu…” Children in the cabin were crying.
“It’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright…” A middle-aged man in first class shouted, trying to muster courage.
Wu You realized the situation was becoming serious; the sudden roll just now was clearly abnormal.
Could it be an engine problem?
The captain and chief attendant hadn’t broadcast any updates for a while now. The turbulence fluctuated between intense and mild.
Beside him, Xiang Biao was fervently praying and chanting, sneaking nervous glances at Wu You.
...
In the cockpit.
The captain and co-pilot struggled to control the aircraft.
“Control tower, control tower, this is KY730. We’ve encountered severe turbulence. Please respond. Requesting ground guidance. Repeat, requesting ground guidance.”
“KY730, this is Control Center. Report your altitude.”
“Altitude eight thousand meters.”
“Ascend or descend immediately. Repeat, ascend or descend immediately. You are in a zone of extreme turbulence.”
“This is KY730. Left engine failure, right engine power declining. Unable to ascend. Descending would result in loss of thrust. Request approval for course deviation.”
The radio fell silent for a moment.
Then a deeper voice came through: “KY730, this is Control Center. You are approaching the core of the turbulent zone. This is not ordinary clear-air turbulence. Changing direction now, with only the right engine, cannot stabilize the power. You have only one option.”
A pause.
“Push through.”
The captain and co-pilot exchanged a glance.
“Received. Will report status after.”
...
The aircraft’s shaking grew more violent.
Wu You could no longer sit still. The captain had just broadcast the latest update: the plane had entered a zone of extraordinary turbulence, and passengers should carefully watch the evacuation video and follow the attendants’ instructions.
This meant the crew judged the risk of an accident to be significantly high.
Now, aside from the crew, Wu You was probably the only one not shouting or panicking.
Beside him, Xiang Biao had gone from wailing to attentively watching the evacuation video.
Given the current turbulence, no one would doubt the plane could break apart midair.
...
If the aircraft did disintegrate in the sky, Wu You would have to immediately enter Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain, perhaps bringing Xiang Biao with him, and after staying inside for a while, release Ao Guang.
As for the others, he could only apologize.
Wu You was no saint; he would help if he could, but if not, his own safety was paramount.
Just as he waited for the outcome, a thought flashed through his mind.
Severe turbulence?
Ao Guang’s abilities included control over wind and thunder—wind was essentially airflow.
Well, it was worth a try. He would act with a clear conscience.
Summoning Ao Guang here was inconvenient, but—
Wu You opened the system in his mind.
Used his permissions—Demonic Divine Power.
Selected the medium: Azure Dragon Ao Guang.
...
Suddenly, an invisible, imperceptible wave radiated from Wu You.
Other passengers were too far away to sense it, or their terror drowned out any feeling.
But Xiang Biao, sitting beside him, felt his skin erupt with goosebumps, a subtle pressure emanating from his left.
He turned to Wu You by the window, sensing a dramatic shift in atmosphere.
Wu You’s gaze was cold and distant; being near him induced a faint sense of suffocation.
It was a kind of—authority.
“Block for me,” Wu You’s indifferent voice reached Xiang Biao’s ear.
Though little was visible from the outside, Wu You was certain he had changed.
His eyes were not focused on anything inside the cabin.
Though open, he was “seeing” the turbulence outside the aircraft with his mind.
Outside, invisible vortices crashed wildly, and the airliner sailed through them like a boat through whirlpools.
Then, let me try to control it.
The waves in his consciousness spread from his first-class seat.
Where I am, the wind cannot pass!
His mind guided the turbulent air as an invisible hand directing a raging flood.
A dull ache began to throb in his head...
