Chapter 55: Boundless Joy in Struggling Against Heaven
For a moment, Yuxing felt his scalp tingling. The early summer night’s breeze was not cold, but as he dashed forward, it raised goosebumps all over his body.
To battle against the heavens for joy? No, there was nothing joyful about it. People could die because of this—what could possibly be amusing about that?
At this thought, Yuxing formed a suspicion. Since Little Black King was self-aware, then in the original storyline, Little Black King’s decision to break out of his egg form and return to his true shape was not—or not merely—because Uncle Oda witnessed the fight between Tregia and Taiga, awakening his irrepressible fighting instincts and indirectly influencing Little Black King.
Rather, it was because Tregia deliberately unleashed destruction near Uncle Oda’s studio warehouse, causing severe damage, and Taiga engaged him to prevent further havoc. Yet the battle between the two giants inevitably made the destruction worse.
In Little Black King’s eyes, Uncle Oda and his studio, so close to the scene, were in danger. To protect Uncle Oda, to protect his studio, it returned to its original form and launched an attack against the two giants. At that moment, its priority was to target the more destructive and dangerous Tregia, and once Tregia’s purpose was achieved, he used Taiga to block Little Black King’s blow and decisively escaped—
So, Little Black King was not simply a beast bringing threat to Earth. Its power might be able to...
With this realization, Yuxing redistributed his stat points, putting everything into movement speed—his speed soared instantly! He nearly skimmed along the rooftops, racing straight toward the three fleeing figures.
He couldn’t let anything happen to Little Black King! Nor to Uncle Oda, or Uncle Oda’s studio!
As he launched himself into the air, Yuxing quickly used the Taiga light key to shift all his speed points back to physical strength, and then he crashed down powerfully in front of the three robbers.
“What the—!”
The rough curse barely escaped before the dust he kicked up made the frontmost robber cough violently; the other two hurriedly covered their mouths and noses, waving their hands to clear the air.
As the dust settled, the three robbers stood stunned, slowly coming back to their senses.
A human? It’s actually a human...
Their tensed nerves relaxed, and their faces twisted into various sly grins. So this was the owner of the footsteps that had been chasing them? The sound had faded for a while—they’d assumed the pursuer had run out of stamina, not realizing he’d circled ahead.
Clearly a lone, weak individual, yet he’d brazenly dropped right in front of them, blocking their escape.
Their hands itched; there was no way they’d let him go without a beating.
One of the trio cracked his knuckles, preparing to teach this reckless obstacle a lesson.
Yuxing paused, feeling a slight numbness in his foot, then looked at the three.
The semi-abandoned factory district had little lighting, and this darkness emboldened those with malicious intent. Yet, despite the lack of illumination, ambient light pollution from the city and the moon overhead provided some visibility.
With enhanced physical senses, Yuxing combined the environmental light with the faint glow emanating from Little Black King’s egg, barely making out the robbers’ faces.
Upon recognizing them, Yuxing’s eyes lit up. Well, well—familiar faces. Even more reason not to let them escape.
He smiled and wished the three good night—a casual, harmless greeting, but paired with his expression, tone, and subtle posture, it was enough to ignite their anger.
Seeing their relaxed faces stiffen, Yuxing pressed further, fueling the tension.
“Put down what you’re holding, or… something rather unpleasant might happen.”
He gestured toward Little Black King’s egg, his voice flat, as if stating a fact.
At his words, the trio’s stiff expressions loosened. They exchanged glances, sharing a ‘is this guy an idiot?’ look, and burst out laughing.
Did this fool not realize his predicament? He was outnumbered three to one—how could he possibly win?
None of them saw Yuxing as a threat. They considered themselves seasoned veterans, enjoying the advantage of numbers. Three against one—how could they lose?
Their confidence soared, making them forget their own limitations.
The apparent leader, provoked by Yuxing’s words, chuckled and asked, “Something unpleasant? Well, tell me—what exactly?”
He held the “raw jade ore” in his arms, stepped forward to close the distance, and set the egg on a small box by the roadside...
He didn’t hand it to his companions...
Yuxing smirked inwardly. The bonds between these robbers were even more superficial than he’d imagined...
With the treasure safely set aside, the leader straightened up, then—
He suddenly drew a pistol from his waist, aiming at Yuxing, finger tightening on the trigger!
Yuxing quietly stepped back and said,
“Something unpleasant? Well, have you ever heard of a move called ‘falling from the sky—’”
Before he finished, a sharp “Hey!” rang out, and the warrior, full of bravado mere seconds before, was abruptly tackled from above by a second person, who landed squarely on his neck and pinned him to the ground. The pistol flew out of his hand from the collision.
The newcomer promptly kicked the fallen gun toward the wall.
The other two robbers were stunned by this sudden descent of justice; such an entrance surely diminished their morale. Fearful, they both took a step back, eyeing the newcomer with uneasy suspicion.
They had no guns, only baseball bats for close combat. After all, their “partnership” was loose, each bringing their own weapon. The young leader’s claim to command was partly because—he had a gun.
Seeing Yuxing’s relaxed expression, they understood immediately—this newcomer was clearly his ally.
Moments ago, three against one had emboldened them to gang up on the lone foe; bullying the weak was always entertaining. Now that their leader was down and a helper had arrived, the odds were two against two—suddenly their confidence faltered.
They wanted to run.
The newcomer, Songya Yu, tilted his head, glanced at the familiar face still groaning beneath him, and spoke with gritted teeth, full of exasperation.
“Long time no see, Walker.”
