Chapter 111: Kakashi's Mission
Soon, Michel’s statue ceased trembling, and the radiant light began to fade. After losing the glow’s enhancement, Kakashi gently descended to the ground, aided by the power of his wings.
Watching Kakashi, who had now opened his eyes, Uchiha Li gazed at the wings behind him and asked, “How do you feel?”
“It’s a marvelous power. It seems I can use the ‘Golden Wings of Light’ to strengthen myself, others, and even objects,” Kakashi replied somewhat uncertainly. As he spoke, he drew two kunai from his waist.
With a slight flutter of the wings behind him, one kunai was bathed in a golden radiance, gleaming brightly. When he lightly struck the two kunai together, the one untouched by the golden light shattered instantly and fell to the ground.
Seeing this, Uchiha Li nodded quietly and then said, “Try enhancing both yourself and me to see what effect it has.”
Without hesitation, Kakashi let the golden light shine upon both of them.
Uchiha Li observed the golden glow enveloping his body and began to carefully sense its effects. Soon, he discovered several clear changes.
First was the issue of ocular power consumption. The golden light enhanced the bearer’s recovery abilities in all aspects. Previously, while maintaining the Creator’s Authority in Terra, he could only break even in terms of energy expenditure, but with the improved recovery speed, his ocular power began to accumulate a surplus.
This improvement seemed minor for Uchiha Li but was crucial for Kakashi, who had not received the First Founder’s cell transplant. Moreover, since this was a communal amplification effect, others could also benefit.
Additionally, Uchiha Li sensed that his chakra had become unusually active under the golden light’s blessing. Since they were still within Terra, he refrained from activating ninjutsu to test it practically. Yet, from the sensation alone, he was certain that chakra consumption during ninjutsu would decrease while its power would increase.
Finally, there were hidden effects of the golden light. As an ultimate form of light, it likely possessed dispelling and healing properties. However, Uchiha Li could not confirm this now—he certainly wouldn’t test it by inflicting harm on himself. This was something Kakashi would have to explore on his own in time.
Kakashi also clearly felt the enhancement under the golden light and, satisfied, eventually dismissed the wings behind him. As Michel’s successor, his understanding of the golden light was deeper, and the enhancement effect was greater than others’.
His greatest satisfaction lay in the resolution of his chakra issues. Now, he could amplify himself anytime with the golden light, accelerating chakra recovery.
Seeing this, Uchiha Li said, “You have successfully inherited Michel’s power. From now on, your code name within Terra will be ‘Saint’ Michel.”
Though Kakashi’s golden winged light did not surpass Shisui’s dragon transformation mode in single-person enhancement, its potential ceiling was indeed higher. The more people amplified, the more pronounced the benefits.
“‘Saint’ Michel, huh?” Kakashi murmured before saying, “The power Michel brought truly fits the image of a saint.”
Uchiha Li nodded. “This is only the foundation. As you develop it further, your abilities will correspondingly improve.”
After a brief pause, his tone grew serious. “You have now become an Apostle of Terra, so remember to abide by Terra’s rules.”
“Since Terra grants you this power, naturally it can be taken back…”
“If that ever happens, things will not be so simple.”
Kakashi stiffened at these words, then earnestly nodded. “I understand.”
Having personally experienced these powers unlike any ninja’s, he had elevated Terra’s importance in his mind to the highest level. Such a mysterious organization, and what seemed to be a godlike existence, was not to be trifled with.
Moreover, his reason for joining Terra was driven by a personal desire. As long as Terra did not threaten the village, he would never break their rules.
After a brief hesitation, Kakashi spoke again: “Leader, I have some questions for you. You seem to know much.”
“Of course,” Uchiha Li replied directly. “Terra has always watched your world. What you call secrets are no secret to me.”
Upon hearing this, a spark of excitement flashed across Kakashi’s face as he prepared to ask.
But before he could speak, Uchiha Li cut in, “I know what you want to ask, but now is not the time.”
Kakashi was momentarily stunned, then realized. He recalled one of Terra’s principles: equivalent exchange.
In other words, to learn any information, one must contribute accordingly. Having just received the Apostle’s power was already an advance benefit, so he was still in debt.
Under such circumstances, the leader naturally could not answer his questions.
What he needed now was to complete Terra’s tasks and repay his debt before earning the right to inquire.
With this in mind, Kakashi asked, “Leader, is there a task suitable for me now?”
Seeing Kakashi’s conscientiousness, Uchiha Li nodded slightly. “There is indeed a mission for you, but you will have to wait a while.”
Pausing, he suppressed a smile and continued, “When the time comes, I will assign other members to accompany you. This operation will be your evaluation mission.”
The recent journey to Loulan had secured a dragon vein likely to be useful in the future, so there was little immediate need for him.
But since Kakashi had just joined the organization, they couldn’t let him idle—that would violate Terra’s principle of equivalent exchange.
Coincidentally, Uchiha Li was planning to launch the second volume of The Terra Chronicles. The first volume bore the name of Shisui, the Bakal, so this time it would be fitting to feature Kakashi, Michel himself.
“I will complete it diligently,” Kakashi responded solemnly when he heard the word “evaluation.” To him, a secretive organization like Terra would surely assign missions of great importance. And since this involved another Terra member, he was even more cautious.
“All right, that’s enough for today,” Uchiha Li said in a low voice. “You are now a member of Terra, so you can communicate with me remotely. How to do so will become clear once you return.”
Kakashi pursed his lips and nodded respectfully. “Yes, Leader!”
Without further words, Uchiha Li reached out and lightly touched Michel’s statue. The statue glowed once more.
Before Kakashi could react, he felt his form blur and grow increasingly intangible.
Soon, his figure vanished from within Terra.
Uchiha Li looked around the now-empty Apostles’ Hall, cleared away the tables and chairs, then returned to reality.
Tonight, for some, sleep would be elusive...
