Volume One: Hell-Level Lord World Chapter 123: The Mechanical Army
Seeing the situation outside, Donard could no longer sit still. He turned to Kara and said, “Kara, something’s not right. I’m going out to take a look.”
“All right.” Kara hesitated briefly but agreed to Donard’s plan.
At this moment, he was too occupied to deal with the external enemy. The only one who could take action was Donard.
Unlike Mido, Donard held a higher rank. The undead troops under his command were no mere skeleton soldiers. Even when scavenging undead from the floodwaters, he chose only high-level ones.
The four Death Knights in their ranks were all brought back by him. Although some had been dispatched elsewhere, he still retained his strongest warrior.
Additionally, he commanded seven Corpse Warlocks, one of whom had reached the level of a Lich.
Alongside eleven Skeleton Mages, six Zombie Decapitators, five stitched monstrosities, and other strange creatures, his forces were small in number but formidable in strength.
If Kara had not trusted Donard enough to leave him by her side for protection, she wouldn’t have done so.
Now, seeing the chaos outside, Donard knew a large army had arrived. They were tied down here; if the enemy truly broke through, they had no means to resist. Better to send Donard out for battle. If they could kill the enemy’s heroes, there was still hope.
“Be careful. If the enemy has mages, pay special attention to their water magic,” Kara reminded, recalling how the undead city had been destroyed before.
“Understood. You’d better hurry. If it’s impossible, just dig out the Heart of the City. Let the level be affected; we’ll find another place to settle and contact the Black Fortress later.”
“Don’t worry, I know what to do.”
As the two discussed, Pan and Mido had already clashed head-on outside.
After three thousand rats surged forth, over six hundred wolves charged out.
Wolves against skeleton soldiers made for a good match.
All these wolves were at level two, and more importantly, their bite force was stronger than that of the rats. One bite could shatter a skeleton soldier’s bones.
Under their assault, Mido’s skeleton troops fell and were wounded, halving their numbers in an instant.
“Death Knights, charge!” Faced with this situation, Mido had no choice but to unleash his Death Knights.
Three Death Knights formed a triangular formation, brandishing greatswords as they charged into the wolf pack.
At that moment, Pan noticed the Death Knights’ charge. He had already locked onto them when he arrived, fearing these high-level undead troops.
Seeing the Death Knights charge, Pan unleashed all his scarecrows.
Pan himself was a scarecrow, but his ability lay mainly in controlling machines.
When recruiting these scarecrows, he had modified them, equipping them with agricultural machinery.
These farm machines were designed for harvesting wheat, resembling carts that could cut down all crops in their path when pushed through a field.
The scarecrows behind would then collect what was cut.
But now, thanks to Pan’s modifications, these machines had become semi-siege weapons.
Pushed forward by scarecrows, the harvesters could slice any enemy in half at the waist.
If the enemy came in large numbers, these harvesters were devastating on the battlefield.
Pan had several such machines, though all were agricultural and not overly powerful.
He had already planned to ask Chen Gu for help upon returning, hoping to create some attack-oriented machines.
If successful, combining machines with his troops would greatly enhance his combat strength.
The harvester charged straight at the Death Knights.
These three Death Knights had escaped the flood but were poorly equipped.
Moreover, most were former mounted knights turned undead.
Their natural defense was weaker than typical Death Knights, and their mounts were unarmored.
The harvester’s blades struck at the horses’ legs; once a leg was severed and the Death Knight caught in the machine, survival was impossible.
Pan understood the situation clearly. The charging Death Knights certainly saw this too.
But having charged, they would never stop.
The three Death Knights swung their greatswords at the lead harvester.
Crash!
The harvester shattered under their blow, its spinning blades flying everywhere.
Two blades pierced the Death Knights, and many more hit the scarecrows.
But the scarecrows were unfazed; they lunged forward, pressing the blades against the Death Knights.
Then the trailing harvester charged, sweeping both scarecrows and Death Knights into its blades.
After dragging the Death Knights over a hundred meters to the rear of the skeleton troops, Pan saw a bloodstain stretching over a hundred meters at the collision site.
The Death Knights and their mounts had been ground into a bloody pulp.
“Well done.”
Pan waved decisively. “Attack! Everyone, move forward!”
Excited, Pan sent all his scarecrows into battle.
He had already proven his agricultural machines could be effective on the battlefield, so he unleashed them all.
But just as Pan dispatched all his machines and scarecrows, numerous green fireballs suddenly erupted behind him.
These were fired by the Corpse Warlocks and Skeleton Mages who had locked onto Pan’s position.
They were clever—seeing Pan was a scarecrow, they didn’t waste toxins but used fireballs.
To them, Pan was made entirely of straw; burning the straw would destroy him.
Faced with the attack, Pan fell backward into the vine-covered cart.
Then white foam sprayed from the flowers around the cart, extinguishing the flames from the fireballs.
The explosions from the fireballs were also absorbed by the cart.
Though startled, Pan sustained little damage.
Emerging from the cart, he immediately pinpointed the enemy’s location.
“Ravens, attack!”
