Chen Gu certainly knew what he had missed.

But he was also very clear about what he truly wanted.

Since this owl could do nothing to help him seize Black Fortress, Chen Gu naturally chose the option most favorable to himself.

At this moment, nothing was more important than finding the whereabouts of the Elven Queen.

It was not only tied to the efforts he had put in over the past few days, but also directly concerned the legitimate rulership over the Holy City and even the entire original elven region.

Chen Gu had come to conquer the world of the lord before him.

To him, possessing legitimate rule or not were two entirely different concepts, requiring two completely distinct approaches.

Therefore, he had to find the last Elven Queen.

The owl did not know what he was thinking; it only saw Chen Gu give up an opportunity.

In the end, it could only shake its head helplessly and point at the ground.

"See for yourself," it said.

With that, the owl faded away into the moonlight, but Chen Gu noticed that its lingering presence seeped into the forest and did not entirely perish.

It was only then that Chen Gu understood why Allen had once said that witches and prophets were unaffected by the undead.

As it turned out, they were themselves formed from the very essence of the forest—the forest was them, and they were the forest.

Unless the undead destroyed the forest itself, they could not die.

But now, this creature clearly had no interest in him, and Chen Gu had no intention of seeking out the owl again.

He turned to the spot the owl had indicated.

There, an enormous eyeball emerged from the earth.

Chen Gu approached and, upon looking at it, was instantly drawn into an illusion.

The vision felt just like reentering the lord’s world, seeing the whole realm from above, exactly as before.

Only this time, he was not given the chance to observe the entire world at his leisure.

His gaze was pulled directly to a valley.

There, in the valley, lay a corpse, gnawed so clean that not a scrap remained.

As soon as Chen Gu saw everything clearly, the vision vanished.

He felt a sudden heat in his hand; the map he had been using to record his journey slipped to the ground.

Chen Gu picked it up and discovered a small black mark had been burned into its surface.

He understood immediately: that mark matched the location he had just seen in the vision.

Then, the surrounding trees parted, revealing a path—clearly urging him to leave this place at once.

Chen Gu was not annoyed. He waved to the rear, and the vine-drawn carriage stationed to the side rolled over on its own.

He handed the map to the coachman, a figure conjured from the carriage’s vines, and took a seat inside.

His subordinates swiftly followed, and two scarecrow killers even took up guard positions at the back of the carriage.

The coachman, though a mere projection, possessed a certain intelligence and could read a map.

As soon as Chen Gu got in, there was no need to say a word; the carriage set off automatically toward the black mark on the map.

Once they rushed out of the woods, the path behind them closed seamlessly, leaving only the route by which Chen Gu had come unchanged.

Now beyond the forest, Chen Gu could not spare the effort to contact Allen; the distance between them was already too great for normal communication.

Even if he wished to know Allen’s situation, he could not reach him directly now.

He could only keep his thoughts to himself, occasionally glancing outside to gauge their location.

Back on an ordinary road, the vine carriage’s speed slowed considerably.

It was no longer able to travel at the dizzying hundreds of kilometers per hour as it had in the underground tunnels.

Returning to this pace, Chen Gu actually felt a bit more at ease.

It was, after all, a useful ability—if he managed to conquer this lord’s world, he would implement such rapid transit methods, establishing fast-moving corridors.

As he mulled over this idea, the carriage gradually slowed to a stop.

Looking out the window, he found himself surrounded by a pack of wolves.

These wolves looked alive and agile, but so emaciated that only skin and bone remained.

They encircled the vine carriage, not attacking immediately, but growling low, as if poised to strike at any moment.

Chen Gu took stock: there were nearly a hundred wolves in all.

Had this been before he conquered Silverpine Valley, he might have needed to worry about tactics when facing such numbers.

But ever since securing Silverpine, Chen Gu had no further concerns about troop strength.

Not to mention, after witnessing over two hundred thousand water elementals in the Holy City, a hundred or so wolves were hardly intimidating.

"Summon Bloodshadow Wolves—go!"

With a twist of his hand, he cast a summoning spell, releasing over a hundred bloodshadow wolves.

As they charged forth, Chen Gu paused, then summoned a few pillars of Holy Light Magma, stationing them to guard the carriage.

He summoned them specifically because Holy Light Magma combined both sacred and fire attributes, highly effective against undead enemies.

With them stationed by the carriage, it would not be so easily ambushed.

After all, the sudden appearance of these wolves had been too abrupt to ignore.

Chen Gu worried that perhaps the undead had set their sights on him.

Though the wolves appeared full of life, the fact they hadn’t died despite such starvation suggested they were no ordinary beasts.

The bloodshadow wolves immediately engaged the wild pack.

Compared to the wild wolves, the bloodshadow wolves’ combat strength was vastly superior.

They launched themselves straight for their opponents’ throats, twisting and worrying until every last wild wolf was dead.

Throughout the battle, no other enemy appeared.

When the last wolf had fallen, Chen Gu gestured to his Corpse-Eating Vine, signaling it to clean the field.

[……]

Chen Gu had little interest in these items.

His attention was fixed instead on a small hill not far away.

"Wolf Mountain," he murmured.

He had once obtained the building stone for a Wolf Mountain, but for lack of suitable subordinates, had been forced to use it immediately, turning it into a wilderness camp.

He had regretted that deeply.

Now, seeing Wolf Mountain once more, he could not help but feel a pang of emotion.

He walked up to the mountain, placed his hand on the earth.
