After synthesizing the mobile base, Chen Gu made no further stop in Crow’s Nest City. He had already lingered here for more than a day, and now, he needed to press on.

Once Chen Gu issued the order to depart, the caravan swiftly organized itself. Vines topped with the skull of the Hydra pulled the vehicles at the front, while packs of wolves darted back and forth among the convoy.

Chen Gu sat in the first carriage—the original vine carriage, now the flagship Vineglow, serving as the camp’s council chamber. The interior had grown noticeably larger, offering a spacious eight square meters. The furnishings had changed as well: a two-meter-long, one-and-a-half-meter-wide bed occupied the rear, with two chairs in front for sitting. Storage chests lay beneath the chairs and bed, claiming half the available space.

The other half formed a work area with bookshelves, a desk, and an office chair, the desk perfectly positioned to face the carriage’s front window. Upon the desk rested a map—not the regional map procured from the elves, but rather a schematic of the Vineglow camp itself. With this, even while moving, Chen Gu could clearly monitor the carriage’s situation.

Most importantly, when confronted by irresistible dangers, Vineglow could break apart into thirteen separate carriages, each fleeing independently. Once the threat passed, Chen Gu could use the map to recover them one by one.

Seated in the carriage, Chen Gu shook the bell resting on the desk, prompting the front window to open.

“Sir, where are we headed now?”

The driver outside was still the false coachman. Chen Gu had already decided: soon he would build the tavern, and once he recruited his first hero, he would assign them as coachman to direct the convoy’s route.

“Southward. Here’s the map.” Chen Gu handed the goblin the map through the front window.

Turning his attention to the desk, Chen Gu reflected. Since entering the Lord’s World, he had gained several cities, but none had truly been built by his own hand. Silverpine Valley remained at level three, Emerald Antqueen managed Emerald Densehill, Crow’s Nest City was entrusted to Peter, and Kabas had delivered the City Heart to Helm Valley, which had yet to send news.

Ironically, Vineglow was the first city Chen Gu had personally overseen.

He had learned during his school days what a lord ought to do for his city, but now he saw he was still inexperienced.

Sitting at the desk, Chen Gu quickly arranged the plans for Vineglow on its interface. Each carriage in the convoy had its architectural direction set; with the allocation of resources, construction could begin. However, only one building could be constructed in any city at a time. Since this was a mobile base, construction speed halved while moving.

Following his own vision, Chen Gu chose to build the carriage tavern first. By calculation, it would take eighteen hours.

He thought that was all—that he merely needed to wait. But unexpectedly, as construction began, a task sheet popped up on his desk.

[Town Quest]
Source: Vineglow
Grade: White
Quest Objective: Seek suitable ingredients and herbs for brewing, produce at least five types of spirits (0/5)
Reward: A dedicated bartender
Instructions: A tavern without a bartender cannot attract patrons.

Chen Gu blinked. Was this meant for him to handle personally?

He scrolled through the task sheet and discovered it was a town demand quest, and a limited-time one at that. If completed before the tavern was finished, the dedicated bartender would appear directly in the tavern. If not, the quest would vanish.

Furthermore, it need not be handled by Chen Gu himself; he could assign it to a subordinate hero. Unfortunately, at present, no hero accompanied him. Thus, he would have to solve it himself.

Shaking his head, Chen Gu stood up and opened the carriage door at his side.

After the modifications, the vine carriage now featured a narrow corridor outside, just wide enough for a person to sidle through.

Chen Gu stepped out into the corridor and called to the outside.

“Bring me some Bloodshadow Wolves and Fire Spirit Crows.”

At his command, the wolves and crows quickly gathered before him.

“Go, find any promising fruits, seeds, and herbs.”

The Fire Spirit Crows immediately took wing; they were most adept at this task. The Bloodshadow Wolves hesitated, less skilled in this field.

Just then, the Starving Wolves that had been following the convoy suddenly bounded up to Chen Gu, howling at him.

He instantly understood their intent. Unexpectedly, these wolves—unable to eat a thing—actually possessed the ability to find such items.

Chen Gu wanted to ask how they managed it, but he lacked the means to communicate with wild wolves.

So, he simply sent them off to search.

What Chen Gu did not know was that the Starving Wolves had acquired this skill through necessity. Cursed by nature, they could not consume food, yet needed energy to survive. Water alone would never suffice. They needed nourishment, so, from early on, they learned to brew various herbs into teas to restore their strength.

The items Chen Gu now sought were precisely those the Starving Wolves were familiar with. Naturally, they wished to impress him—not merely by keeping pace with the carriages, but by proving themselves as a fighting force.

Having entrusted the task to the Starving Wolves, Chen Gu reassessed his attitude toward his subordinates. He realized that any species able to survive in such an environment, no matter how insignificant, possessed their own strengths. To endure here, without some special skill, they would have long since been devoured to the bone.

From now on, when encountering new creatures, he would strive to understand their function, not just their combat ability.

As Chen Gu dispatched the wolves and crows, Kabas arrived at the original site of Helm Valley, bearing the City Heart.
