Inside the vine carriage, Chen Gu began working through the classic math problem: at a fixed speed, when would both sides meet? At this moment, Chen Gu had already located the enemy's position.

The speed of the vine carriage had not slowed despite becoming a caravan; in fact, with more carriages, the pace had noticeably quickened. But now he faced a new dilemma: the undead troops were numerous.

There were seven squads in the undead army, each led by a skeleton hero and a zombie hero, like the team that had blocked Chen Gu earlier. The undead forces that had intercepted him before were merely one of these squads.

When they blocked Chen Gu, that squad had actually sent out an alert. Now, all the undead troops knew Chen Gu’s location and had begun pursuing him. If they managed to delay him, he would not have the luxury of the ten-odd minutes of respite as before. Once held up, Chen Gu would be confronted by wave after wave of incoming undead.

So he must not be detained. But Chen Gu could not continue south either. If he traveled another six hours south, he would reach Cape City. Once there, he would have to stop, no matter the circumstances. Even if he managed to shake off the undead army, they would soon catch up.

If Cape City was a sealed city, there might still be hope. However, if the city had already been overtaken by the undead, Chen Gu would be forced to face an ever-increasing number of undead troops alone. In that case, escape would be impossible.

Therefore, before reaching Cape City, he needed to deal with these undead.

Just as Chen Gu was vexed, a Fire Spirit Crow suddenly descended. Chen Gu leaned out, eyeing the creature.

"What happened? Is there a new undead army appearing ahead?" he inquired.

Before he'd finished speaking, two mosquitoes flew from the Fire Spirit Crow and landed in his palm.

"Master, I discovered undead troops following you," came the voice of Kebas.

Chen Gu’s eyes brightened; it seemed Kebas had caught up, and that changed the situation entirely.

“How many troops do you have? I’ve already discovered seven undead squads, each numbering around eight hundred, mostly skeleton soldiers and zombies.

But these aren’t their main force. I suspect the enemy has a larger central army.”

Perhaps the transmission of information was slow, or perhaps Kebas was weighing the situation. At last, he replied, “These should be Type B or higher corps—the undead legions guarding the region. I estimate they’re most likely Type B, since this isn’t a major undead territory.”

Chen Gu considered the possibility and found it plausible.

“A Type B corps—can we defeat them?”

“It’s difficult. Have you only seen skeleton soldiers and zombies?”

As a hero from the Elven Kingdom, Kebas had some understanding of corps classifications.

“Yes, I’ve only seen skeleton soldiers and zombies, and the pursuing squads are made up of the same.”

“Then what we’re seeing is only part of the Type B corps. A typical Type B corps will have one or two specialty units, and, in addition, common advanced troops.

Not to mention, in undead legions, ghosts are ranked equally with skeleton soldiers and zombies. Normally, cannon fodder vanguards act in mixed groups of skeletons, zombies, and ghosts.

If there are no ghosts this time, it’s likely their specialty units are ghost troops.

As for elite undead troops, they’re vampires, death knights, and necromancers. Each undead squad may lack bone dragons, but those three types will certainly be present.”

Listening to Kebas, Chen Gu felt a growing headache. If it were only skeletons, zombies, and ghosts, they might still manage. But with vampires, death knights, and necromancers added, it was a real problem.

With the few troops at his disposal, how could he handle this?

If they were in the Holy City, or in Fire Tablet Valley, tens of thousands of elementals could show these creatures who truly ruled the land.

But here, Chen Gu’s forces numbered barely a thousand—what could he use to fight?

He pulled out his map; he was now far from Fire Tablet City. Even if he wanted to turn back, he couldn’t breach the undead army’s attack range.

As for stumbling upon another altar that hadn’t been activated in centuries? Chen Gu didn’t think he’d be so lucky. The previous two times were already the limits of his fortune. If it happened again, he’d suspect the lord’s world had given him the wrong script—that this was not the elven world, but an elemental world instead.

Shaking his head, Chen Gu dismissed the thought and asked directly, “Kebas, how many undead troops can you handle?”

“I am certain I can defeat vampires—my unit counters them. As for necromancers, my burrowing bugs can ambush them once, but not a second time. Additionally…”

“Additionally what?”

“Additionally, Brufid has encountered a Type B corps as well and can’t come to our aid.”

“How is he faring? Can he hold out?” Chen Gu grew worried.

“Rest assured, Master. Brufid’s combat capability is solid. These years, we haven’t been favored by the mainstream of the Elven Kingdom and thus haven’t joined the main corps. The hydras under his command are numerous enough—against a Type B corps, he can put up a fight.”

“Oh, really? That’s good. Once he defeats that undead corps, I’ll grant him command of a Type B corps, and name it the Hydra Corps.”

“Truly?” Kebas was taken aback.

Despite their cheerful discussion, the crucial problem remained unsolved. With their current troops, defeating a Type B corps was a daunting task, especially since they still didn’t know what units the enemy had.

A head-on clash with their limited forces was impossible.

While both men fell silent, the Fire Spirit Crow Chen Gu had sent to scout returned hurriedly.

“What happened?”

Seeing the crow’s anxious demeanor, Chen Gu was puzzled.

Yet when he understood the crow’s report, Chen Gu shot upright.

“What did you say—there’s a great canyon ahead?”

After grasping the crow’s meaning, Chen Gu froze.

He quickly consulted his map, and discovered that less than three hours from Cape City, an impassable great canyon had appeared.

For a moment, Chen Gu could not determine whether this news was good or ill.
