Before the corpse-eating vines returned, the vine carriage had already snapped back into place.

“From now on, you’re the coachman. This is the map. Whenever I want to go somewhere, I’ll speak to you directly through it.”

As soon as the vine carriage stopped in front of him, Chen Gu had Pan take the driver’s seat.

“Also, the scarecrows under your command can stand in the attendant’s position. The crows can perch on the roof. All of the wolf pack may enter the carriage, though there are quite a few of them, so it will be cramped inside. Make sure you calm them down.”

From Chen Gu’s orders, Pan came to understand his character well enough.

Clearly, Chen Gu was the sort of man who would flare up on the spot when something happened, but afterward would not keep holding it against you.

He had already scolded Pan just now, and that meant the matter was over and done with.

After dumping Pan into the coachman’s seat, Chen Gu even had the leisure to glance at the progress of the other buildings he had targeted.

After finishing the tavern, the second building Chen Gu chose for Vine-Light was the magic tower.

He was walking the path of a summoning mage.

“Their positions are strange. It’s almost as if they aren’t worried about us escaping at all.”

At a glance, Chen Gu could see the undead army’s deployment scheme. To arrange themselves like this meant that, in their minds, they had already pinned Chen Gu and the others down.

“This isn’t their main force. Their true main force must still be somewhere else. Did you notice anything else unusual?”

After a brief chuckle, Chen Gu couldn’t help but ask.

Pan thought carefully for a moment, then still shook his head.

The crows he had sent out had only discovered these forces. The main undead army had yet to appear.

Chen Gu thought about it, then immediately contacted Kebas.

The forces already visible before him were nothing Chen Gu couldn’t handle. He had a clear idea of how many enemies there were.

It was the undead troops that had never shown themselves that truly concerned him.

For Chen Gu had no way of determining their current strength, nor could he even judge where they might appear.

It was this unknown that put him on edge.

At that moment, it was Pan who spoke again.

“My lord, could they perhaps be underground?”

Hearing that, Chen Gu’s eyes suddenly brightened.

“That’s right. We can move underground, so there’s no reason they can’t move underground too.

Corpse-eating vines—are there any corpse-eating vines left?”

At Chen Gu’s command, several corpse-eating vines appeared before him.

“Go. Search underground and see whether another underground force is approaching us.”

After sending the corpse-eating vines away, the more Chen Gu thought about it, the more reasonable Pan’s theory seemed.

This undead force might very well have come through the ground.

That thought left Chen Gu somewhat helpless. If his greatest advantage was gone, how was he supposed to face the enemy?

Fortunately, fate did not drag Chen Gu into an inescapable abyss.

Kebas had discovered the undead main force. They were not moving underground. The reason they were advancing so slowly was simply that the undead troops accompanying them were slow to move.

The situation Chen Gu and the others had guessed earlier was completely wrong.

The undead legion before them was indeed a Class B legion.

But the true main battle force they had brought out was not the regular undead Chen Gu had been imagining.

There were no death knights, no corpse wizards, no vampires.

What followed behind them was a large host of ghosts, controlling a kind of enormous green insect, as huge as a small hill.

The bodies of those insects were almost liquefied; wherever they passed, the road itself was corroded away.

As they moved forward, bits of flesh would sometimes fall to the ground and transform into smaller insects trying to flee.

But immediately, ghosts would come and direct those fragments back into the insects’ bodies.

If Kebas had not seen it with his own eyes, Chen Gu would never have believed such a dead creature existed.

Yet it was clear that those enormous, nearly liquefied insects were the main force of this undead army, and that this main force was not even particularly obedient to undead control.

The reason they were moving more and more slowly was precisely because of the burden of these insects.

But once they reached the battlefield, those gigantic creatures capable of devouring everything would become the enemy’s nightmare.

After hearing this news, Chen Gu turned and told Pan at once.

Pan was also stunned for a moment, and then he reacted immediately.

“My lord, this is actually good news. At the very least, we no longer need to worry that the enemy is advancing underground. And since their movement is so slow, we’ll have plenty of time to figure out what they fear.”

When Chen Gu considered it, that was indeed the case. Their ability to detect the enemy in advance was already the beginning of victory.

“Fire Spirit Ravens, go test what that insect is afraid of.”
