Volume One: The Emperor's Sword Chapter 106: The Array of a Hundred Weapons

Fearful though he was, the Fire Demon was not afraid of the Worm King.
When the corpse-eating Worm King lunged again, the Fire Demon sent him flying with a single punch, slamming him against the wall so hard he could barely move.
The Worm King’s injuries were severe; only his thick shell had spared him from death.
He could no longer bite or tear; curling his slender claws and playing dead, he was swiftly gathered up by Yun Que.
With his current strength, he was no match for the Underworld Yaksha.
“Yaksha” was a rank, equivalent to a human cultivator at the Nascent Soul stage. The Fire Demon clearly ranked among the elite Yakshas.
Believing Yun Que was defenseless and out of tricks, the Fire Demon laughed wildly, flames dancing and flickering around him like a god of fire walking the mortal realm.
“Just an incomplete corpse worm. If you could muster hundreds of them, maybe I’d be wary. But one little worm trying to oppose me? That’s pure delusion!”
With that, the Fire Demon stretched out his hands, and two enormous fiery palms materialized in the chamber, each lunging toward Yun Que and Si Ruonan.
“Fire...” Yun Que whispered, suddenly struck by an idea, forming a sword formation with his fingers.
The enemy wielded fire power; only ice and snow could suppress it.
Five flying swords rose simultaneously!
Now Yun Que could command at most five flying swords. Combining them with the Frost Sword Technique, he unleashed his strongest strike.
Each sword targeted one finger of the fiery hands, their blades swiftly coated in biting frost.
At the moment the frost-coated swords clashed with the fiery palms, ice and fire, cold and heat, compressed together before erupting in a thunderous blast.
Boom!
After the sharp, muffled explosion, the five swords were blasted away in unison, their spiritual energy severely diminished, falling one after another.
Meanwhile, the terrifying fiery palms were extinguished by the frost and snow, dissolving into a wisp of black smoke.
Si Ruonan’s way of dispelling the fire palms was unique.
She retrieved a strange green herb and tossed it at the fire palms, which were then enveloped in a green glow and gradually faded with a sizzling sound.
The Fire Demon curled his lips in surprise.
“Ice sword technique, Coldwood Herb—impressive. Both restrain fire. Seems you two have plenty of tricks. Let me see how much spiritual energy you have to sustain your sword techniques, and how many Coldwood Herbs you can throw!”
The Fire Demon chuckled ominously again, flames blazing fiercely on his hands, about to conjure giant fiery palms once more.
Indeed, the Frost Sword Technique countered fire.
But Yun Que could only perform the first move, Frost Flight.
Because his spiritual energy was severely limited and he struggled to connect with the outside world, this sword strike was his utmost limit.
Si Ruonan might still have some Coldwood Herbs, but not many, certainly not enough to withstand many attacks.
By contrast, the Fire Demon’s flames grew ever more vigorous, seemingly endless.
He toyed with them like a cat playing with a mouse.
Once he tired of the game, it would be the death of Yun Que and Si Ruonan.
Against such a formidable foe, even their combined efforts showed no chance of victory.
Yet Yun Que remained calm and composed; his trump card was not just the Frost Sword Technique.

Si Ruonan, however, wore a face of despair.
She no longer believed they had any hope of survival today. Steeling herself, a determined resolve replaced the hopelessness in her eyes.
“Though humanity is weak, we have ways to slay demons and fiends! The Hundred Artifact Formation!”
With her shout, the chamber walls trembled as sand and stones rained down.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Flying swords burst through the earth.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Magical instruments pierced the walls, arriving one after another.
In moments, over a hundred magical artifacts piled inside the chamber—all items from Si Ruonan’s shop.
Originally on the ground floor, these artifacts were drawn by the formation’s power, passing through earth and stone to gather beside Si Ruonan.
Like loyal dogs answering their master’s call, they assembled in formation.
The hundred artifacts hovered, positioned in various places, and instantly the formation took shape. The chamber was bathed in dazzling magical light.
Yun Que felt his body entering a strange spatial dimension.
Looking up, countless stars twinkled in all directions.
Each star represented an artifact.
The Hundred Artifact Formation, composed of exactly one hundred artifacts, served both offense and defense. Unless all artifacts were destroyed, the formation could never be broken.
Yun Que quickly spotted Si Ruonan nearby.
The Underworld Yaksha was nowhere to be seen, trapped in some corner of the formation.
Si Ruonan’s face was pale as she borrowed the power of the formation to flash before Yun Que and tossed him an object.
Yun Que caught it and looked down—it was an ancient jade slip, engraved with a seal.
“I’m sending you out. If you get the chance, return this to the Treasure Artifact Sect,” she said, her gaze complex. “It’s my sin. I hope it never drags anyone else down.”
Si Ruonan’s action was strange.
Yun Que was momentarily stunned before nodding and storing the jade slip in his spatial ring.
This must relate to her origins and be extremely important; otherwise, she wouldn’t entrust it to him at the last moment.
But what she meant by “sin” remained unknown.
A deep rumbling echoed from the formation’s depths, the stars trembled violently like falling meteors.
Si Ruonan’s expression changed sharply. She shoved Yun Que urgently.
“The Hundred Artifact Formation can’t trap it. Run!”
Before he could respond, his body was flung backward, swiftly leaving the formation.
With a thud, he collapsed onto the ground.
Looking around, he was no longer in the chamber but outside the firewood shed.
Sunlight blazed overhead.

Yet the air still brimmed with eerie ghostly energy. The small courtyard was deathly silent; not even the distant city noises could be heard.
“To maintain a formation and simultaneously seep out an aura to seal the courtyard... The Underworld Yaksha is indeed powerful,” Yun Que had to admit. The Fire Demon’s strength was terrifying.
Even though he escaped the chamber using the Hundred Artifact Formation, leaving the courtyard quickly was nearly impossible.
Before he could break the courtyard’s seals, the Fire Demon would surely break out of the formation.
“If the Corpse Worm could devour a Yaksha... would it become whole?” Yun Que mused.
From the Fire Demon’s words, the corpse-eating Worm King was called the Corpse Worm and was a mutated, incomplete form. If enough were raised, even Underworld Yakshas would retreat.
Such a creature was a rare treasure!
Corpse Worms specialized in devouring spirits and ghosts; in numbers, they could be invincible in the Underworld.
Yun Que stood and headed toward the firewood shed.
He had never planned to escape alone.
Inside the chamber, the Hundred Artifact Formation was collapsing amidst continuous cracking sounds.
The Fire Demon’s speed in breaking the formation far exceeded Si Ruonan’s expectations.
In just a few breaths, her greatest formation was utterly destroyed.
All one hundred artifacts were ruined!
Faced with the approaching monster, Si Ruonan lost all will to resist as he grabbed her by the throat and lifted her up.
Slurp.
The Yaksha’s monstrous tongue curled as it opened its huge mouth to swallow Si Ruonan’s head slowly.
Inside the Yaksha’s mouth was like a bottomless pit; it didn’t need to bite piece by piece—it could swallow a living person whole in an instant.
Si Ruonan closed her eyes, awaiting death.
She began to regret.
Regretted her actions.
Regretted that instead of resurrecting her brother, she had unleashed a creature from the Underworld.
She didn’t know how many lives would be destroyed because of it.
An Underworld Yaksha comparable to a Nascent Soul cultivator could carve a bloodbath through the imperial city of Great Yan.
Creak.
As Si Ruonan was overwhelmed with remorse and the Fire Demon prepared to dine, the battered firewood door was pushed open from outside.
Yun Que entered.
His steps steady, he descended the stairs and stood before the towering Yaksha.
Spreading his arms, he proposed, “Your body’s been around too long—it stinks. How about switching to a fresher one?”
