Regarding the matter of the Yu family’s three members, Ye Zheng simply pretended not to see it. Yu Zidu was now his disciple, but wasn’t he still a son of the Yu family? Besides, it was his father, Yu Qiuming, who hit him; he had to show some respect, so he could only let his disciple suffer in silence. Getting beaten up wasn’t a big deal—Ye Zheng himself had been hit by his father many times since childhood. This was just a normal way they interacted, so it was better not to interfere. Compared to his disciple, Ye Zheng valued his friends more; if he lost a friend, he could just take on another disciple!

“Yu Qiuheng, I’m your own son, and you’re going to hit me so hard?” Yu Zidu shouted as he ran, addressing Yu Qiuming who was chasing after him. He really was dealing with his biological father—he hit him, so why strike with such cruelty? Was he really that disgusted with his own son? Was he such a failure as a person, unloved by both father and mother, just because he wasn’t born a girl? Originally, Yu Qiuming had wanted to stop, but hearing Yu Zidu’s words, his anger flared again. “Oh no, you little brat, how dare you call me by my name! If I don’t break your legs today, I’m no man!” This child was spoiled because he was rarely disciplined and indulged too much by Fang Hua. That was why he was like this now. If it were possible, Yu Qiuming would rather have no son at all, only daughters, since daughters were more obedient and sensible.

“Enough, both of you, stop it soon or you’ll disturb the adults’ rest,” Fang Hua said, her head aching from their quarrel as she called out to her husband and son before turning and walking back into the courtyard without looking back. Yu Qiuming was already old, yet he still acted like a child, unable to endure things calmly. Yu Zidu, too, should stop provoking his father all the time; if he was restless, he should go out and gain experience rather than constantly making the family angry at home.

“Dad, do you think Mom might be carrying a little sister? I hope it’s a girl, so that if she causes trouble, you won’t have the heart to hit her,” Yu Zidu glanced at his mother’s retreating figure. He truly wished that the child in her womb was a sister. He didn’t want a younger brother; if the brother was naughty, the old man would surely beat him just as he did with Yu Zidu himself.

“I don’t know either. Son or daughter, they’re all my children,” Yu Qiuming said, his gaze softening as he looked at Yu Zidu with much more affection.

After all, he was his son; no matter how many bad things he did, he would always be his son. Fortunately, the boy hadn’t done anything truly wicked—just the usual rebellious acts, hanging out with street ruffians.

“Son, behave and follow the adults well. Your father is old and really can’t keep up with all this chaos anymore,” Yu Qiuming sighed. He really hoped Yu Zidu would grow up to be a successful and accomplished child. Studying under Ye Zheng, no matter how much skill he could learn, was far better than wandering around causing trouble all day.

“Dad, I know. I’ll listen carefully to my master from now on and study diligently,” Yu Zidu said firmly, silently vowing not to disappoint anyone.

Seeing his son suddenly mature, Yu Qiuming smiled with relief and patted Yu Zidu’s head. The child had finally grown up and become sensible. It still took Ye Zheng’s intervention; there was nothing Ye Zheng couldn’t handle. Yu Zidu was firmly under his control now. As long as Yu Zidu improved and followed Ye Zheng well, this Broken Horizon would one day belong to him.

Yu Qiuming was tired and just wanted to take Fang Hua to see the world outside, rather than spending their whole lives stuck in Broken Horizon, tending to this tiny patch of land and worrying about it endlessly.

“Don’t tell me you want me to succeed just so I’ll stay here and guard this broken place, while you take Mom to wander the world,” Yu Zidu said with a look of realization, angrily glancing at his father before storming out of the hall. It was too much—he didn’t want this broken land. He wanted to roam the world, to call everywhere home. Why should he be the one left behind?

There were still others in the Yu family; if someone had to stay, why not his cousins? After all, they were family too.

“Oh, you’re getting clever these days. Your mother and I thought the same way, so we’ve been putting up with you!” Yu Qiuming laughed loudly in the hall, calling after Yu Zidu’s back. If it weren’t for having someone to guard the family while they were gone, why would they have bothered to have a son? He was more a troublemaker than a blessing.

“Your son knows you’re heartless, and it’s a mercy he hasn’t hit you back yet. I think you should take it easy,” Ye Zheng suddenly appeared in the hall, giving Yu Qiuming a warning. “Your son is naturally rebellious. If you don’t discipline him properly and keep provoking him every day, do you think this is enough?”

“Have you forgotten he still has a great trial to face? Can’t you be a little kinder to him?”

“If he doesn’t survive the costly trial, it won’t just be your son in trouble — the entire Broken Horizon will suffer. I can’t intervene to help him in this matter.”

“This is a life-or-death trial for him, and it concerns the fate of Broken Horizon. You and Fang Hua can’t afford to be careless. This is my final warning.”

“Remember, if Yu Zidu dies, Broken Horizon dies. Think carefully.”

Ye Zheng sighed helplessly. This was all he could do. Although he was an extraordinary being, there were some matters he could not interfere with. Yu Zidu’s life-and-death trial was also the life-and-death trial of the Yu family. Their fates were intertwined—if one prospered, so would the other; if one fell, both would fall.

He truly hoped Yu Qiuming and Fang Hua would take this seriously. He did not want to see his friends fall one by one under the heavenly thunder. He hoped they could all live well.

“Ye Zheng, if the Yu family cannot survive this time, I hope you can help me take care of Zidu and keep him alive,” Yu Qiuming suddenly grew much more mature. He understood Ye Zheng’s meaning. How could he not want everyone in Broken Horizon to be well?

But fate was hard to defy. He was helpless about this matter; he only hoped the Yu family would not be severed.

As long as there were descendants, there was still a chance for revival. The Yu family would one day stand tall again.

“All I can do is this, but I hope you and Fang Hua take good care of yourselves. After all, you two are the little ones I’ve watched grow up!” Ye Zheng suddenly became playful. Yu Qiuming couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

Is it really appropriate to joke when talking about such serious matters? Although everything Ye Zheng said was true, this wasn’t the time to say it. Didn’t he and Fang Hua have any pride?

Besides, who told him he was so old? Could he really blame himself and Fang Hua for growing up too fast?
