Chapter 130: Returning to Attend to Some Personal Matters
The streets were bustling with people, but Ye Zheng had no heart to watch any of it. At this moment, his eyes and his heart were filled entirely with Chu Xingran.
He spent a long time wandering the streets with her, buying her countless gifts, and even presenting her with presents he had prepared well in advance. For Ye Zheng, Chu Xingran was worthy of the finest things in the world, provided that they were what she desired.
"My Lord, it was just a moment of impulse. Please, take these things back. Can we just pretend we never met?" Chu Xingran still could not overcome her internal hesitation; she constantly felt she was unworthy of him. The gap between them was too vast, and she knew that if they were together, many would disapprove and tongues would wag. She did not want Ye Zheng to have to resort to force to resolve such matters every time.
"Chu Xingran, you silly girl, you’ve already accepted the token of my affection, and now you dare to back out?" Ye Zheng was amused to the point of laughter. What was going on in that little head of hers? With him by her side, did she truly fear that anyone could stand in their way? As for the Chu family, he had plenty of ways to handle them; all that mattered was that this girl kept him in her heart. He would deal with everything else. She didn't need to consider so much—she only needed to stay by his side.
"Ah? But... but I really..." Before she could finish her hesitant words, or even have the chance to voice a refusal, Ye Zheng pulled her into his arms and kissed her lips softly. He did not want to hear her rejection.
"Be good. With me here, no one can tear us apart. You have to trust me, okay?" After coaxing her, Ye Zheng took her hand and headed toward a jewelry store. He continued to buy item after item, though she couldn't see the point of it all.
Fang He followed behind, watching the rapid progress of the pair with a face full of dark lines, unable to bear the sight. That brooding, reserved man, Ye Zheng—who had initially pretended to be so pure and ignorant, putting on a sickening act of being clueless about romance—was he now playing the part of an innocent, head-over-heels lover?
"Sigh, they are all frauds. Ye Zheng is nothing but a big, fickle hypocrite," Fang He muttered with a shake of his head as he followed them. In the past, it was always he who flirted with women while Ye Zheng looked on with annoyance and disdain; now, everything had flipped.
Yet, he had to admit, the shameless Ye Zheng had moved far too quickly, managing to trick that little girl from the Chu family into his grasp. A veteran player in the game of love like himself had to concede defeat today; he simply couldn't compete.
"I don't want all of this. Just buy me this ink-colored jade hairpin; it looks very similar to yours," Chu Xingran said, still feeling as if she were walking on clouds. She was troubled by all the gifts he was buying. She didn't really care for jewelry, as she rarely dressed up and preferred simplicity.
"It doesn't matter if you don't like them; we must have them. What’s wrong with a girl having more jewelry?" Whenever such moments arose, Ye Zheng never knew what to say, and it fell to Fang He to step in. It was the nature of their symbiotic bond; they understood each other so clearly that they knew exactly what the other was thinking.
"Big Brother, these are too expensive. One hairpin is enough," Chu Xingran shook her head. These items were far too valuable; she couldn't accept so much from Ye Zheng.
"Don't worry, the kid has plenty of money. Even if you bought this much every single day, it wouldn't matter!" Fang He waved his hand, thinking Chu Xingran was overthinking it. This was mere pocket change to Ye Zheng; if he rummaged through any corner of his home, he would likely turn up treasures of inestimable value. Was a man like Ye Zheng ever short of money?
Regardless of whether Chu Xingran wanted them, Fang He called the shopkeeper and had everything wrapped up, ordering it to be delivered directly to the Chu residence. When it came to chasing women, Ye Zheng was truly shameless, using his wealth to pave the way and his handsome face to bamboozle the young girl.
"That's all for today. You should head back early; I won't be able to accompany you home." Ye Zheng hugged Chu Xingran. It wasn't that he didn't want to see her home, but there was trouble at Mount Wumei, and he had to return. "Be good, I'll come to see you tomorrow. I have to go deal with some things, so promise me you'll be obedient." He coaxed her, fearing she might overthink his departure.
Watching Chu Xingran leave, turning back every few steps, Ye Zheng withdrew the gentleness and patience from his face. He stared toward Mount Wumei with a cold, murderous expression.
"Let's go. Do those people, so eager to court death, really think I, Ye Zheng, am truly dead?" The bloodthirsty, frigid intent in his eyes made even Fang He shudder. This man, whose face changed faster than a woman’s, would truly choose to annihilate everyone and everything that displeased him if he were pushed too far. He wondered why those figures at the top couldn't just stay quiet; were they so bored that they had to stir up trouble every single day?
"Alright, don't get angry. Anger makes you age," Fang He said, shaking his head. "Think about it—you’re already so much older than your little girl. If you get any older, you really won't be worthy of her. Calm down. It's not the first time those fools have acted this way. Why get so worked up? Just go back and handle them directly."
He shrugged, accepting fate with such casualness. Fang He admitted he was no saint. In this world, the law of the jungle prevailed; there was nothing wrong with his way of thinking, and if Ye Zheng acted accordingly, no one could blame him.
"They interrupted me while I was seeing my little one home. Should I just wipe out their entire clan? They are so noisy and talkative anyway, always disturbing others," Ye Zheng said, turning to look at Fang He. Fang He was momentarily speechless. How was this man’s brain wired? Was there truly nothing wrong with him? He had been talking for so long, and yet Ye Zheng asked a question like that—was he insulting his intelligence?
"That’s enough out of you. Killing people? I think you’ve lived too long and are actually looking for a way to die," Fang He retorted sharply. He grabbed Ye Zheng’s arm and, with a flash, teleported them to Mount Wumei. "Try to keep a better attitude when we get up there. Don't lash out unless you absolutely have to. Don't always keep that stony face; it’s enough to scare people to death." He patted Ye Zheng’s shoulder and led him to the summit.
Fang He had been to Mount Wumei many times and was intimately familiar with the place. He knew exactly where everything was, especially the spots where Ye Zheng stashed his treasures. Whenever Fang He was short on cash, he would come here to rummage around, and if he found something good, he’d take it to trade for wine. Since Ye Zheng didn't care about money and they were symbiotically linked, Ye Zheng usually turned a blind eye to it all.
