Chapter Sixty-Six: Go Home Early
Returning to the Yangcheng Grand Hotel, Gu Zhiheng began packing his belongings. It was time for him to set out for his next destination.
Jun Luan looked at Gu Zhiheng with an unwilling expression. He really didn’t want to be separated from Gu Zhiheng, nor did he wish to return alone.
“Brother, can’t I go with you?” What’s the point of going back by himself? He didn’t even know the rest of the Gu family.
Though he couldn’t tell what kind of talisman Gu Zhiheng had attached to him to make him appear just like a normal person, he simply didn’t want to go back.
He was unfamiliar with everything, and returning meant starting all over again. Especially without Gu Zhiheng there, he was completely unwilling.
“You’re going to work at Gu Group. Follow my father and support the business—consider it the biggest favor you could do for me.” Not only was this kid a handful, but he was also clingy.
“I’ve never even gone to school—I know nothing. How am I supposed to work at the company?” Jun Luan was clueless about the work Gu Zhiheng spoke of. How could he be expected to manage such a thing so easily?
“Stop pretending to be innocent and ignorant. Did all the knowledge Ye Qingyun taught you go to waste?” Gu Zhiheng, growing angry, gave him a slap. Jun Luan was simply unreliable.
He’d been unreliable since childhood; there was no reason to expect more from him as an adult.
“Jun Luan, you need to understand, I’m arranging this for your own good. Can you please not make a fuss?” Gu Zhiheng was getting a headache—why couldn’t this child grasp his intentions?
It was dangerous to follow him; even his life wouldn’t be guaranteed. Why insist on coming along?
With Jun Luan as weak as a chick, would he really take him along to deliver meals to those spirits? In his current state, he wouldn’t even be a mouthful for them.
“Brother, is it because you think I’m too weak, so you won’t take me with you?” Jun Luan understood that Gu Zhiheng’s arrangements made sense.
But now, Gu Zhiheng was the only familiar person left—his only concern. He truly couldn’t bear to part.
“You know you’re weak, yet you still won’t listen to me?” Gu Zhiheng, almost enraged to the point of coughing blood, stepped back and glared at Jun Luan.
He had to send him back—bringing him along would only slow him down.
It wasn’t a matter of ability; it was a matter of his mind. He’d never been normal.
Who knows how Ye Qingyun raised him, to teach him to be so odd?
“I understand, I’ll go back. Don’t be angry.” Ah, he still had to return!
He wondered if his brother’s family would be easy to get along with, and whether the Gu family would dislike him.
If the Gu family didn’t accept him, could he return to find Gu Zhiheng and follow him again?
“There’s money in the card. Go back on your own—I’ve already informed the family.” Gu Zhiheng handed Jun Luan a card, along with the ID he’d gotten from Ye Qingyun.
It seemed Ye Qingyun was reliable at times—he’d at least arranged an ID and various documents for Jun Luan.
“Work hard when you get back. The Gu family will be in your hands from now on, so do your best!” Gu Zhiheng patted Jun Luan’s shoulder, and they packed up and left together.
In the lobby, while checking out, Gu Zhiheng encountered the woman he’d met when he arrived.
“Sir, thank you for your warning. That night, you saved my life—I’m truly grateful.” The woman was emotional, stepping away from the counter to thank Gu Zhiheng.
“No need for thanks. Just help me check out—I need to send my brother to catch his flight.” Gu Zhiheng shook his head; it was nothing more than a small gesture.
There was no need for gratitude—as long as she was safe, that was enough.
Once she finished the checkout, Gu Zhiheng drove Jun Luan to the airport.
The journey was quiet. Jun Luan, feeling downcast, looked at Gu Zhiheng with a plaintive expression.
“Don’t look at me like that, or I’ll really start to think you’re in love with me. But I have absolutely no interest in you.” Gu Zhiheng gave a mocking laugh, glancing at Jun Luan in the passenger seat.
Romantic entanglements were nothing but obstacles on the path of cultivation. He preferred solitude.
Besides, he neither understood nor wanted to understand such things.
“Why are you so sure I don’t really like you? What if I actually do?” Hmph, this isn’t fun at all!
“If you keep talking nonsense, you’ll stay in Yangcheng and wait for Liu Yu’er to come back and kill you. I think your brain is really rusting.” He had no sense of propriety!
If he had such a foolish brother, he’d advise his parents to abandon him.
He really disliked Jun Luan’s reckless chatter—often tempted to slap him, but seeing his pitiful look made it hard to do so.
Forget it—send him back, let him live well in the Gu family.
“Brother, will you visit us at home when you have time?” From now on, he’d truly be part of the Gu family.
The Gu family was wealthy and powerful—surely they could afford to support him, as long as he behaved.
“Don’t think you can slack off at home. Go to the company and work hard—someone will teach you what to do.” Gu Zhiheng sneered, knowing all too well Jun Luan’s little schemes.
Despite being twenty, he was as dim-witted as ever.
“I know, I’ll remember, so stop nagging me.” Hmph, did he install surveillance in his mind? How does he know everything I’m thinking?
It’s only been two days, but he knows me so well. He must like me.
He’s just too shy to admit it, but he cares so much. What else could it be but affection?
Gu Zhiheng was just stubborn, refusing to acknowledge it.
“The family is complicated. When you get there, behave yourself—don’t cause trouble for me.” Gu Zhiheng felt it necessary to warn him in advance, knowing Jun Luan’s nature.
“Grandfather will be living with us. Yu’er is the eldest sister’s daughter, but don’t mention anything about the eldest sister at home.”
“My little sister is lively and energetic. You can let her take you out to get used to the surroundings, show you around.”
“As for my parents, don’t anger them or cause trouble—just focus on your work.” He said a lot all at once, feeling he’d never spoken so much in his life.
If he didn’t pity him, he wouldn’t bother at all.
“Should I call them Mom and Dad, and address Grandfather and Sister like you do? I’m your brother, right?” He was delighted—he’d have family again.
“Call them whatever you want, just don’t upset them.” Gu Zhiheng replied perfunctorily, focusing on driving and ignoring Jun Luan.
He realized that as long as he went along with Jun Luan, nothing went wrong.
The more he tried to reason with him, the less it worked. Better to simply agree, and everything went smoothly.
Sure enough, after a moment, Jun Luan was soothed and much more obedient.
“Go on, your flight will take off soon.” Gu Zhiheng rubbed Jun Luan’s hair, gave a few final words, and watched him leave carrying his luggage.
