When the others saw how suddenly he had recovered, none of them said much more. At this point, there was nothing more that could be said.

Liu E also kept silent about Jing Shushu. He had already warned her. If she still insisted on courting death, then he need not concern himself with any old affection.

With Gu Zhiheng suddenly like this, he could no longer laze about all day dragging him into nonsense. Things needed to move forward, and quickly.

"I've prepared these books for you. Read them as fast as you can and memorize everything in them. From now on, I'll be keeping close to you." He handed over a stack of ancient volumes and sat nearby to watch.

Starting today, they would have to be serious. They could not afford to delay any longer.

"I know. I've already read many of these before. Go to the Administrative Bureau and deliver this to that fool, Chu Zhaoting." Without even looking up from the books on the table, he flicked a jade token toward Liu E.

He had brought it out with him when he left the ancestral shrine. His grandfather had told him that if he ever met anyone from the Administrative Bureau, he only needed to give them this.

As for everything else, he had been told not to ask. He only needed to do his own part, and the rest would still be taken care of.

Indeed, his grandfather had been right. He only needed to do his own work; the rest really would be helped along by others.

Chu Xingran, Chen Yuan, Mo Han, and now Liu E.

One ghost woman, three spirits, and him, a living man.

The stranger the team, the faster the victory.

"Can I skip seeing that fool? What if we get into a fight? There won't even be anyone to break it up." Glancing at the jade token in his hand, Liu E was somewhat unwilling to go out.

He and Chu Zhaoting were mortal enemies. They had been at odds for years, and had fought for years too.

"What, aren't you my brother? You don't even want to do this little thing for me?" Since he was benefiting from him, what was so wrong with helping out a little?

Gu Zhiheng looked utterly infuriating in that moment, but Liu E did not dare lay a hand on him. In the end, he could only resign himself and leave with the token.

What was there to fear? So what if they fought?

Anyway, that guy was no match for him. Beating him up once would do just fine, and he would feel much better for it.

Only, once fists were thrown, things would become complicated. Their relationship would only get worse from there, and there would probably be no chance of reconciliation at all.

"Sis, I'm going to your brother's place. I figure I might end up fighting him. That shouldn't be a problem, right?" They would still need to get along for a long time, so he had better not accidentally offend this girl.

"It's fine. Fight however you like. It has nothing to do with me." Chu Xingran gave a cold snort and ignored Liu E no further.

Didn't she already say it? She had nothing to do with Chu Zhaoting. Why were they still asking her about all this?

"All right then, I'm off. Keep an eye on that kid." He rose to leave, and as he went, he shut the door for them.

Chu Zhaoting, you trash. Here I come!

Liu E roared in his heart and hurried toward the hotel parking lot.

Gu Zhiheng had said it: when going out, either take a taxi or drive yourself. He could not behave as he had before.

It made sense. Now that they were in the mortal world, they had to act like ordinary people if they wanted to avoid giving themselves away.

He took Gu Zhiheng's car and sped all the way toward the local branch of the Administrative Bureau.

Fortunately, the bureau was in a rather remote place, and there were not many vehicles along the way. Otherwise, his speed would definitely have caused trouble.

After about half an hour, Liu E brought the car to a steady stop in front of the bureau's branch office.

"Hey, exercising, are you? Is your boss around? I've got something to see him about." He stood there with a thoroughly roguish air, utterly lacking in decorum.

Inside his office, Chu Zhaoting heard the sound of a car engine outside and got up to look.

But when he saw it was Liu E, he sat back down again. He did not want to see this man; it soured his mood.

"Chu Zhaoting, I know you're there. Come down and see me. I've got business!" That bastard. He looked and still would not come down, and even ignored him.

"What do you want with me? If you're here to make trouble, then forgive me if I have no time to play with you." Chu Zhaoting leaped down from the second floor and landed before Liu E.

"Don't look at me like that. I really do have business with you. Otherwise, I'd be too lazy to come see you." As he spoke, Liu E reached into his pocket, took out the jade token Gu Zhiheng had handed him, and gave it to Chu Zhaoting.

Chu Zhaoting took the token, his face turning ashen, looking as though he might kill someone on the spot.

"Where did you get this token? Who gave it to you? How could it be in your hands?" He grabbed Liu E by the collar and demanded furiously.

This was the symbol of the Chu family head. Whoever held the token was the head of the Chu family.

As long as they possessed the token, no matter what their identity, the Chu family had to obey their command.

How could this token be in Liu E's hands? What was Liu E's relationship with the former family head? Wasn't Liu E just a moth spirit?

"Look at you. The token was given to me by Gu Zhiheng, who told me to bring it to you. Let go of me!" He shoved Chu Zhaoting away. This fool was nothing but a useless blockhead.

He was making such a fuss over a trifle. No wonder he had no prospects.

"Gu Zhiheng? How could it possibly be him? How could our family token be in his hands?" Chu Zhaoting refused to believe that his grandfather would have given the head family's token to someone from the Gu family.

"I don't know about that either. When you have time, you can ask Gu Zhiheng yourself. He didn't tell me why it was in his hands." That youngster had a terrible temper lately, and Liu E did not dare ask too much about what he ought not to ask.

"He didn't say a single word? My family's token being in the hands of someone from the Gu family makes no sense at all. Does my sister know about this?" Hearing Liu E, Chu Zhaoting finally calmed down.

He had people bring over two chairs, and the two of them sat down in the courtyard.

Chu Zhaoting could not make sense of it, and neither could Liu E. It felt as though something had changed.

Before, everyone had hidden things from Gu Zhiheng. Now, it was he who was hiding everything from everyone.

There were many things they could not see through, many things they could not understand. Yet Gu Zhiheng seemed to keep everything within the palm of his hand.

"I need to go ask him myself. I keep feeling uneasy, and I also need to find out what's going on with my sister." Right now, Chu Zhaoting truly could not sit still; his heart was in complete disarray.

...

"What? Where did they go?" Mo Han rubbed her head, feeling a little dazed.

Seeing Chu Xingran and Chen Yuan in the same state, she could not help wondering if all three of them had been brought down by Gu Zhiheng. Otherwise, why would the three of them all fall asleep at once?

"My head hurts so much. How did I end up falling asleep while I was playing?" Chen Yuan shook her head and glanced at her phone. More than three hours had passed.

"It's over. Where's Ninth Master?" She looked behind her, then struggled to her feet from the floor.

Liu E had told the three of them to keep watch over Gu Zhiheng. But where was he?

"Don't look. He's not here. I don't know when he slipped away." Chu Xingran's expression was not great. She had never expected that one day she would be set up by the child she had raised herself.

If there was something, the child could have simply told them he was going out. Why use such a tactic?
