Gu Zhiheng left the villa and wandered along at an unhurried sway, not the least bit worried that the two women would catch up to him.

“Dinner tonight. Minghui Chinese Restaurant, private room 666. All four of you, come.”

It was his father’s newly opened place, and he had only been there a few times himself.

They had moved so fast. In such a short time, they had already opened a whole chain of restaurants. It was truly impressive.

“Dinner? Weren’t you kidnapped? You’re okay now?” Mo Han stared blankly at the phone, then glanced around. It was broad daylight. He hadn’t been dreaming, and he hadn’t seen... a ghost.

“Got it. I’ll tell them. As long as you’re all right.”

After hanging up, Mo Han pinched himself hard. It hurt.

He checked the time. It was indeed almost time for dinner, but why was Gu Zhiheng suddenly inviting them to eat?

He exchanged a look with Chu Xingran, then drove toward the Bureau to pick up Chenyuan.

Strange as it was, first Liu E’s phone had gone unanswered, and then Chenyuan’s phone had stopped working after he went out.

“Brother Han, something about today feels deliberate. Gu Zhiheng’s kidnapping was suspicious too.” From the front passenger seat, Chu Xingran looked out at the streets, feeling that things were not as simple as they seemed.

Gu Zhiheng’s cultivation had clearly improved a great deal these past few days. How could anyone have kidnapped him so easily?

Unless... Gu Zhiheng had gone with the kidnappers of his own accord.

No, no. What was she thinking?

Gu Zhiheng was not the kind of person who lacked a sense of propriety. If something serious happened, he would tell her immediately. He must simply have failed to react in time.

“That’s possible. It may have something to do with the Crimson-Tailed Fox. Keep your guard up these next few days.” Mo Han touched her hand gently, reassuring her to stay calm.

“Didn’t Liu E go downstairs last night? Wasn’t that woman the Crimson-Tailed Fox? Could it be related to her?” Right now, Chu Xingran looked at everyone as though they might be the one who had kidnapped Gu Zhiheng.

“Don’t worry. We’ll ask him clearly in a bit. Just calm down.” Mo Han looked composed on the surface, but a faint bitterness stirred in his heart.

Whenever something happened to Gu Zhiheng, Chu Xingran would completely forget about him and throw herself entirely into Gu Zhiheng’s affairs.

So that was what being a boyfriend amounted to.

“Brother Han, I’m sorry. You know he’s been raised by me since the day he was born. I’m really worried something has happened to him.” Chu Xingran knew she was being selfish, but she truly could not force herself to let go of the one she loved so deeply.

Whether it was Gu Zhiheng or Ye Zheng, falling in love with someone was easy. Letting go of that person was far, far harder.

“It’s fine. I understand. You don’t need to blame yourself.” Since she had already chosen to accept him, he should not think too much, nor ask for too much.

By the time Mo Han and Chu Xingran returned to the Bureau, the place was in complete disarray. There was practically nowhere to step.

Quite a few people were lying on the ground, all badly injured, and everything had been smashed to pieces.

“Liu E! Liu E! Chenyuan! Chenyuan!” Chu Xingran called out several times, but no one answered.

What on earth had happened? Why had the two of them come here, and why had they turned the place upside down?

It was only to call for someone. Was that really necessary?

“Stop shouting. We’re here.”

Liu E emerged from inside, his face mottled with bruises and streaked with blood.

Chenyuan followed behind him, equally battered, his clothes torn to shreds and his face also covered in injuries.

“Sis, don’t look at me. I didn’t hit either of them. Look at me—I’m injured too.” Chu Zhaoting, who came out last, hurried to explain, afraid that Chu Xingran might misunderstand.

They had simply been unlucky. The few of them had been drinking tea in the courtyard when, all of a sudden, they were attacked.

No one knew where that band of rough men had come from. They rushed in without saying a word and started fighting. The worst part was that their cultivation was far higher than theirs.

Still, one thing was certain: they were neither human nor ghost.

Judging from their build and the style of their attacks, they should have come from some clan of spirits or other unnatural beings.

Yet they had not offended any such family. Why had they suddenly been beaten like this?

“Forget it. Clean yourselves up. Zhiheng is waiting for us to eat.” Mo Han had no interest in hearing the details now. Seeing Gu Zhiheng and making sure he was unharmed was what mattered most.

The group quickly tidied themselves up. Mo Han fetched some ointment for treating injuries, and after tending to their wounds, they headed for the place where Gu Zhiheng had said to meet.

Minghui Chinese Restaurant stood in the center of Jia City, so they could simply drive straight there.

There were malls and supermarkets all around, so they first bought some clothes and changed into fresh outfits before heading upstairs to the restaurant.

“Zhiheng, you’re all right. Thank goodness, you’re all right!” The moment Chu Xingran stepped into the private room and saw Gu Zhiheng, she rushed over excitedly and held him tightly.

“You’ve worried yourself over nothing. I’m fine.” He patted her back, soothing her and telling her not to worry so much.

Then he looked at the others who had come in behind her, and before he could stop himself, he laughed aloud.

This was the first time he had laughed in days, and he truly could not hold it in.

“What happened? She really sent people after you, and they beat you up? Hahaha!”

He burst out laughing again, unable to stop.

“And you two—what happened to you? Did you get caught in it by accident?” Just look at those faces.

That woman, Chu Zhaoan, was quite something. She had really been willing to lay hands on her own brother, and not just lightly either—she had gone straight for the kill.

“You know who it was?” Chu Zhaoting felt as though he had been played, especially after seeing Gu Zhiheng looking so gleeful.

“Yes. It was your eldest sister, Chu Zhaoan. She wants the clan head’s jade token.” Fortunately, his grandfather had foreseen this and had him hand the jade token over to Chu Zhaoan first, so that it could be taken back after this was all over.

“My eldest sister? That dead woman sent people?”

Hadn’t that woman killed herself for some man?

She wasn’t dead?

She was still alive?

Hadn’t she been cremated and laid to rest already?

What was this now—had she come back to life? Had she risen from the grave?

Chu Zhaoting did not understand, and neither did Chu Xingran. How could someone who had died suddenly be alive again?

“Stop staring at each other. That madwoman isn’t dead. She’s alive and well, and her cultivation is far higher than any of ours.” Gu Zhiheng looked at Chu Zhaoting with a teasing smile. He had no intention of getting mixed up in the Chu family’s affairs.

No matter how one looked at it, Chu Zhaoan was a madwoman. Her combat power was far stronger than his. He had to protect his own life.

“Well, if I hadn’t run fast enough, the one who got beaten up would have been me. Good thing I escaped in time.”

His tone was lazy and careless, but everything he said was true. If he had been one step slower, he would definitely have been caught in the crossfire when those two women started fighting.

“Sit down and eat first. We can talk after dinner. Don’t go hungry.” What else could this be but blatant schadenfreude?
