Chapter 113: The Airship

Farolynch paid close attention to the tall figure beside him. In truth, Farolynch was deeply dissatisfied with his current state. He longed to be more normal, to savor various delicacies, to experience richer sensations—not to exist as he did now, like a zombie. Even his bodily sensations were transmitted mentally rather than felt physically, since the fine nerve endings hadn’t yet reawakened.
The situation of the tall man before him was, in some ways, similar to Farolynch’s. His reasons for advising the man were twofold: sympathy and a desire to gauge Mulan’s reaction. By comparing how Mulan treated this man, perhaps he could infer how Mulan would treat himself.
After Matt briefly explained the role and significance of the Avengers, Mulan said little but gave Farolynch a reassuring glance, then shifted the conversation to a more crucial matter.
Though Matt was worried about Deirga’s limited power in Solens, everyone was now being open and transparent. He no longer intended to withhold key information from Mulan. After all, they needed to understand their opponent better. This was the first time Mulan heard of a name previously unknown to her: the Twilight Brigade.
This was an emerging force. As mysterious powers began to surface, strange individuals and events appeared more frequently. Naturally, new ideas grew in number, but the Twilight Brigade was clearly no ordinary faction.
They started by offering mercenary services, scrabbling for resources and knowledge from various sides, gradually accumulating capital and expanding their strength. Only then did the enigmatic Twilight Brigade come into being.
“The Twilight Brigade...” Mulan murmured, narrowing her eyes. The name was unfamiliar and did not appear on the two lists from the Sanctuary. Perhaps the Sanctuary did not classify them as “evildoers,” yet intelligence from Deirga contained scant information about them.
“Lord Jonster, I know Deirga is a great power, but I hope you take the Twilight Brigade seriously. They are no ordinary cult. Their potential cannot be underestimated. While your great powers focus mainly on rival nations, the world is changing rapidly beyond your attention!” Matt’s words rang true. Mulan knew Deirga was watching the world’s shifts but was confined by old imperial mindsets. Though Matt’s tone was blunt, there was truth in it.
Outside, the wind picked up, causing the window glass to tremble slightly.
Mulan’s gaze drifted toward the sky, which had grown gray and overcast, as if a heavy rain was imminent.
Matt followed her gaze and spoke with concern, “Besides our limited strength, I fear that after today’s incident, they’ve realized something is amiss with the auction. They’re cunning, after all. Missing this chance, who knows when they’ll get another shot at that man.”
“I wonder,” Mulan said, “if their power is as strong as you say, might they become more aggressive?”
“More aggressive?”
“Yes. After all, they’ve crossed Deirga’s official forces before, and old scores remain...”
As Mulan spoke, she noticed a vague elliptical shape forming in the gray sky, immediately drawing all her attention.
“What is that...?”
“Lord, what do you see? In the sky?” Matt asked, looking out as well. The shape was becoming clearer.

Suddenly, Mulan’s expression changed dramatically. She turned and shouted toward the door.
“The Basman Gilvari airship—alert all Solens defense forces, enter emergency status!”
Intelligence agents at the seventh post scattered quickly, and Mulan dashed out. She had a profound impression of the Gilvari airship.
Though steam tanks were formidable, they were not invincible. The terrifying Gilvari airship represented air superiority in this era.
The war had just ended, and Basman seemed poised to reignite conflict. Though the odds were slim, they had to prepare for the worst. More likely, this was related to the Twilight Brigade.
“Matt, Chris, get ready!” Mulan called back as she rushed out.
“What kind of preparation?” Chris, brushing past Mulan, asked instinctively.
“Adapt to whatever comes! And you, big guy, come with me!” Mulan didn’t intend to bring Matt and Chris along, instead calling to the Avenger. The Avenger instinctively looked at Matt, who nodded.
“Protect Lord Jonster!” Matt urged.
The Avenger hurried after Mulan.
Solens was a rear city, relatively peaceful. Deirga’s technology lagged in some respects; the locals had never seen aerial machines, much less the war weapon that was the Gilvari airship.
Though still high above, the airship was visible to the naked eye, drawing curious stares from the townsfolk who pointed skyward, fascinated.
Mulan rushed out of the inn, weaving through the crowd, casting occasional glances at the airship’s trajectory. The Deirga military lacked effective means to counter such weapons, and Solens was even less prepared.
This must be a war prize of the Twilight Brigade, Mulan thought. She hadn’t expected Basman to sell such a strategic weapon. Even Basman’s own military had few of these airships.
Could it be missing its main weapons?
Hoping so, Mulan’s pupils dilated slightly as she noticed a change on the airship.
At an altitude of a thousand meters above Solens, a massive airship moved slowly. Though it appeared small from the ground, the Gilvari airship was a colossal 150 meters long.

Inside the airship’s cabin, someone was peering through a handheld telescope and the ship’s downward-looking scope at the city below. The person wounded earlier by Mulan was there too.
“Heh heh, shall we begin?”
“Are you sure? This will seriously offend Deirga.”
“What consequences do you think we’ll face?”
“Probably branded terrorists.”
“Aren’t we already?”
Laughter filled the cabin. The man watching the scope shrugged helplessly.
“Alright, alright, let’s do it.”
He pulled a nearby lever. Gears inside the airship began turning, and a hatch in the lower hold slowly slid open.
Mulan saw this unfold—signaling the Gilvari airship was opening its bomb bay.
‘Could it be fully armed?’ she wondered.
No, this was not a fully armed airship. Basman had removed most military weapons, even nearly all machine gun mounts, leaving only two at the front and rear. The Twilight Brigade could equip their own weapons—no need for perfection, just effectiveness.
As the bomb bay opened, large wooden barrels rolled out and fell toward the city.
“Woo...” “Woo...”
Barrels fell continuously—over twenty in total—before it stopped. Mulan’s pupils contracted as she clenched her teeth.
“Boom... boom... boom... boom...”
Explosions echoed throughout the distant city. Though the barrels’ accuracy was poor, the explosives inside were genuine—some even filled with oil.
Panic gripped much of Solens as fires blazed through many streets.
