Chapter 116: The Special Vault
The security forces of Corner Tower were utterly no match for the formidable warriors of the Twilight Brigade. Everyone who could move fled in panic, while those missing limbs struggled to escape.
The members of the Twilight Brigade entered through a breach in the outer wall. The short-statured man stood in the center of the hall, wiping the blood off the sharp claws on his hands, listening to the surrounding cries of agony with apparent relish.
Some time ago, the Twilight Brigade had confirmed that the item they sought was stored in the Corner Tower’s vault. They were determined to obtain it at all costs—willing to pay a fair price, but ready to seize it by force if a higher bidder appeared.
This time, having clashed directly with the strong warriors of the Delga faction, they anticipated all kinds of complications. So they decided to go all out, creating chaos by piloting their airship, which also served as the best escape vehicle.
They encountered hardly any serious resistance. As the Twilight Brigade advanced swiftly, screams of pain and despair echoed throughout Corner Tower.
Before the underground vault, several guards and two individuals dressed in special uniforms looked fearfully at the approaching raiders, their bodies stiffening as they retreated step by step.
“Who… who are you? This is Corner Tower, the Blue Sky...”
“Pfft, pfft, pfft...”
A series of dull sounds of flesh being pierced followed. Several standing figures suddenly collapsed—some intact, others torn apart into pieces, blood and viscera staining the nearby walls and floor.
The Twilight Brigade stared at the metallic vault, their faces gradually lighting up with excitement.
“Open it.”
“Heh heh heh, I can already feel the aura!”
The tall man flexed his arms, then suddenly charged forward with great force, delivering a heavy punch to the vault’s door.
“Boom—”
A deafening explosion resounded. The others in the Twilight Brigade frowned, while the tall man staggered back several steps.
The metal walls and door of the vault remained immovable. Faint rings of intricate magical runes glowed briefly on the surface before fading away.
“Hm? This can’t be!”
The tall man’s expression turned incredulous, then, fueled by frustration, he steadied himself and launched another fierce punch at the vault door, accompanied by a whooshing sound.
“Bang—”
“Ghh…”
This time, the entire group didn’t just frown; almost everyone instinctively covered their ears. The tall man was blasted backward more than ten meters, crashing into the wall behind the vault passage.
The vault door again glowed with magical runes, brighter than before, then quickly dimmed and vanished.
“Magical rune formation!”
“Who would have thought the vault beneath Corner Tower was so sturdy? The guards seem like useless trash!”
The leader glanced at the corpses on the ground.
“Perhaps it’s precisely because they have full confidence in the vault that the Blue Sky people don’t need strong guards. Maybe they have a way to open it—I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
